Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cellular metabolism is a central regulator of cell behavior, influencing processes such as proliferation, differentiation, senescence, and survival. Recent advances have revealed that metabolic pathways are not merely energy suppliers but active signaling hubs that shape cellular fate and function. Dysregulation of these pathways contributes to aging and age-related diseases, including neurodegeneration, cancer, immune and metabolic disorders. Understanding how nutrient availability, mitochondrial dynamics, and metabolic signaling interact with epigenetic and proteostatic mechanisms is essential to uncover novel strategies for promoting healthy aging and longevity.

This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research and reviews on the role of metabolic regulation in cellular behavior and its implications for aging. Topics of interest include metabolic reprogramming, redox homeostasis, mitochondrial function, proteostasis, autophagy, and the interplay between metabolism and cellular stress responses (oxidative stress, glycative stress, etc.). We welcome studies using molecular, cellular, and systems biology approaches, as well as translational research exploring therapeutic interventions targeting metabolic pathways. By integrating insights from metabolism and aging biology, this Special Issue seeks to advance our understanding of how metabolic control can be leveraged to prevent or delay age-related functional decline.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
