Dear Colleagues,
Microwave (MW) irradiation is one of the easiest and most energy efficient techniques for small-scale chemical production. The ability of microwaves to interact directly with molecules and generate thermal conductivity in a short time, allowing the uniform heating of the material, is considered the great advantage of this synthetic process. The microwave synthetic route has been explored for several organic transformations, namely, microwave-assisted reactions with solid acid/base catalysts (e.g., condensation reactions, cyclization reactions, Friedel–Crafts reactions, etc.) and microwave-assisted reactions with transition metal catalysts (e.g., reduction, oxidation and coupling reactions), under homogeneous or heterogeneous conditions.
The main goal of this Special Issue on “Applications of Microwave-Assisted Synthesis in Catalysis” is to combine a variety of new and original research results in order to highlight the importance of this promising synthetic route. Thus, we invite researchers to disseminate their studies on the application of microwaves for organic transformations, including biomass valorization, hydrogen production, oil refining, as well as catalysts preparation. Studies related to improvements achieved with this method compared to conventional methods, or the scale-up of microwave-assisted reactions, are also welcome.
