Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to bring together interdisciplinary research focused on the role, development, and application of signaling molecules in brain tumors. Brain tumors encompass a diverse group of malignancies and benign neoplasms, each characterized by a complex and dynamic microenvironment driven by altered biochemical signaling. Key signaling molecules, including neurotransmitters, cytokines, growth factors, metabolites, and reactive oxygen species, play critical roles in tumor initiation and progression across different brain tumor types. They also significantly contribute to tumor invasion and influence responses to therapy. Understanding the mechanisms and functional implications of these signaling pathways is essential for improving early diagnosis, identifying novel therapeutic targets, and preserving neural function.

The scope includes research on the identification, synthesis, characterization, and functional analysis of signaling molecules involved in various brain tumors. Contributions that investigate signaling-mediated processes such as tumor growth, neuroinflammation, immune modulation, angiogenesis, and metabolic reprogramming are particularly encouraged. Studies examining how signaling molecules influence therapeutic resistance and how they can be modulated for improved treatment outcomes are also within scope.

This collection also welcomes research on molecular probes, biosensors, biomarkers, and signaling-based methods for detecting, monitoring, and treating brain tumors. Studies using computational and systems biology to better understand tumor signaling pathways and regulatory networks are also encouraged.

This collection seeks to provide a platform for researchers across cancer biology, neuroscience, molecular biology, pharmacology, and related disciplines to advance the understanding of signaling mechanisms in brain tumors and to translate these insights into improved diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

In this Special Issue, both original research articles and review papers are welcome. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the synthesis and functional study of signaling molecules; characterization of signaling pathways in brain tumor biology; identification of signaling-based biomarkers; and biomaterial-based platforms for signaling measurements and computational modeling of signaling networks.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
