Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Biomarkers represent the cornerstone of modern oncology, serving as an essential scaffold for screening, diagnosis, prognosis, and the prediction of therapeutic response. As we move toward a future of truly individualized treatment planning, the role of precision biomarkers will become even more critical.
While rapidly evolving technologies are leading to the daily emergence of novel candidate markers, a significant "translational gap" remains. The true clinical benefit of these discoveries must be rigorously evaluated through appropriate clinical application and independent, large-scale validation.
For this Special Issue of Cancers, “Advancing Precision Oncology: From Biomarker Discovery to Clinical Validation”, we welcome original research, comprehensive reviews, and papers on technical innovations. We particularly encourage submissions that provide real-world evidence or demonstrate the implementation of predictive and prognostic markers across diverse patient cohorts.
The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Molecular Profiling: Genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic, and multi-omic markers;
- Minimally Invasive Diagnostics: Advances in liquid biopsies and circulating biomarkers;
- Computational Oncology: Machine-learning signatures, AI-driven diagnostics, and predictive modeling;
- Therapeutic Stratification: Companion diagnostics and markers for immunotherapy or targeted therapy response.
All submissions must be original work or systematic reviews and must adhere to stringent quality guidelines regarding study design, statistical analysis, and reporting. Priority will be given to studies providing higher levels of evidence, such as prospective validations or meta-analyses, that actively minimize bias.
Our goal is to accelerate the integration of novel biomarkers into routine clinical practice by bridging the gap between bench discovery and the clinical milieu. We look forward to receiving your contributions and working together to further the field of precision oncology and improve long-term patient outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
