Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Interventional oncology has become an increasingly important component of modern cancer care, offering minimally invasive, image-guided therapies that can provide curative-intent, disease-controlling, or palliative treatment across a wide range of primary and metastatic malignancies. Rapid advances in ablation platforms, embolotherapy, image guidance, navigation software, dosimetry, and multidisciplinary treatment pathways continue to expand what can be achieved safely and effectively in selected patients. At the same time, the field is increasingly expected to demonstrate not only technical innovation but also meaningful clinical benefit through improved patient selection, durable local control, preservation of organ function, response assessment, quality of life, and integration with systemic therapies.
This Special Issue aims to highlight innovation in interventional oncology that translates into measurable clinical impact. We welcome high-quality contributions addressing image-guided ablation, transarterial therapies, and other locoregional interventions for solid tumours, as well as studies examining combination strategies with surgery, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Submissions exploring biomarkers, radiomics and AI-assisted planning and follow-up, personalised dosimetry, treatment margins, complication reduction, and real-world or comparative outcomes are particularly encouraged. This Special Issue is intended to be broad enough to reflect the diversity of contemporary interventional oncology, while maintaining a clear focus on clinically relevant advances in cancer treatment.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following: liver-directed therapies for primary and secondary hepatic malignancies; renal, lung, bone, adrenal, and soft tissue tumour ablation; embolization and radioembolization; oligometastatic disease; local therapy in multidisciplinary cancer pathways; peri-procedural optimisation and complication management; imaging- and biomarker-based response assessment; cost-effectiveness and patient-reported outcomes; and emerging enabling technologies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
