Mechanisms Common to Migraine and Stroke

Dear colleagues,

Migraine and stroke are two often comorbid conditions. The relationships between migraine and stroke are complex and multifaceted. Migraine confers an increased risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, especially in the young, due to still-unexplained causes. Both neural and vascular mechanisms can explain the association between migraine and stroke. However, clinical and pre-clinical research on those mechanisms did not lead to clear conclusions. The present Special Issue aims to explore the mechanisms for the relationship between migraine and stroke, starting from epidemiological and clinical evidence to preclinical models. The ultimate goals of the Issue are to trace a profile of this important comorbidity, to help the generation of new hypotheses and to systematize existing knowledge in the field.
