Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a chronic, debilitating condition and a significant public health issue. Due to its various complications and comorbidities, clinical interest in AUD spans psychology, psychiatry, internal medicine, and neurology. The worldwide prevalence of AUD is estimated at around 7%. Despite a global trend of reduction in AUD rates, it remains, associated with alarming phenomena, such as high alcohol consumption rates in the 15–19 age group and low treatment rates—both around 20%.
Given the clinical importance of AUD, we invite you to contribute to a Special Issue of Brain Sciences, entitled “Clinical Studies in Alcohol Use Disorders”. This issue will focus on topics including the following:
- Suicide risk and its predictors in AUD patients;
- Psychiatric and somatic comorbidity of AUD;
- The interplay between trauma and excessive alcohol consumption;
- Novel approaches to psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy;
- Psychometric assessment of AUD;
- Sleep and circadian rhythm disorders in AUD.
We encourage submissions that provide novel insights into the etiology, prevention, and treatment of AUD.
