Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Natural nucleosides (adenosine, guanine, cytosine, thymine/uracil) and their corresponding triphosphates play essential roles in several biological systems. These systems range from the building blocks for RNA and DNA, molecules involved in energy transfer reactions, and as signaling molecules. Over the past 20 years, science has witnessed an explosion in the development and application of unique analogs known as non-natural nucleosides/nucleotides. These novel molecules have enabled a deeper understanding of numerous biological systems as well as providing rational approaches to alter their function for therapeutic interventions. Traditional approaches have relied on modifying the (deoxy)ribose moiety. More recent efforts have taken a more radical approach by replacing canonical functional groups on purines and pyrimidines to generate truly unique analogs possessing novel biochemical properties. This Special Issue provides seminal articles describing the chemistry and biology of non-natural nucleoside analogs.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
