Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Industrial system optimization and intelligent manufacturing is a key research area addressing the theoretical foundations, methodological advances and practical applications that drive the transformation of modern industry toward smart, autonomous and sustainable manufacturing systems. This Special Issue invites high-quality original research that explores how advanced optimization methods and intelligent technologies can be integrated to improve the performance, robustness and adaptability of complex industrial systems.
Relevant contributions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- optimization modeling and algorithms for manufacturing and supply chain systems;
- simulation, digital twins and data-driven decision support;
- the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning and cyber–physical systems in production planning, scheduling and control;
- studies on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT);
- intelligent robotics;
- predictive maintenance;
- energy-efficient manufacturing;
- resilient industrial networks.
This Special Issue welcomes both theoretical and applied papers that demonstrate clear methodological innovation, rigorous analysis and practical relevance. Case studies, real-world implementations and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge industrial engineering, automation and information technologies are highly valued. By publishing cutting-edge research in industrial system optimization and intelligent manufacturing, this topic aims to advance Industry 4.0 development and provide actionable insights that enhance competitiveness, sustainability and intelligent decision-making in next-generation industrial systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
