Dear Colleagues,
Medicinal plants represent some of the most important natural resources for human health, offering a wide range of secondary metabolites with notable medicinal properties. Given the increasing focus on natural compounds, comprehensive scientific validation is essential to confirm traditional knowledge, guarantee quality and safety, and advance the clinical applicability of phytochemicals as therapeutic agents.
This Special Issue aims to showcase innovative research focused on: (i) optimized extraction strategies of main phytochemicals; (ii) phytochemical profiling and therapeutic potential of regionally important species as sources of novel antioxidants; and (iii) elucidation of the underlying mechanisms governing antioxidant activity, with particular emphasis on their modulation within experimental models of oxidative stress–associated pathophysiological conditions.
Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation serve as foundational pathological mechanisms in a broad spectrum of diseases, including metabolic syndromes, cancer, musculoskeletal disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions. Natural bioactive compounds sourced from plants are widely recognized for their potential to alleviate these conditions through notable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
By integrating phytochemistry, pharmacology, and applied biotechnology, this Special Issue seeks to encourage the discovery of novel natural health products, support the sustainable use of plants, and generate scientific evidence to support their use for the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress disorders.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Antioxidants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
