Technological and Statistical Advances in Breeding and Genetics of Sheep and Goat

This special issue belongs to the section “Animal Genetics and Genomics“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The sheep and goat industry stands on the brink of transformative advancements in breeding and genetics, poised to revolutionize productivity, health and welfare, and sustainability. This Special Issue entitled "Technological and Statistical Advances in Breeding and Genetics of Sheep and Goat" endeavors to encapsulate the latest research and innovative strategies shaping the genetic landscape of these invaluable livestock species. This Special Issue will explore a spectrum of genetic improvement efforts, encompassing cutting-edge tools and technologies, such as genomic selection, marker-assisted breeding, gene editing, novel phenotyping on production, health and welfare characteristics, and the preservation of genetic diversity crucial for resilience and adaptability. We invite contributions that delve into the genetic mechanisms underlying desirable traits, the application of state-of-the-art genomic tools technologies, and the ethical considerations surrounding genetic enhancements in sheep and goat breeding programs. By providing a comprehensive platform for researchers, breeders, and industry stakeholders, we aim to foster dialogue, share insights, and chart the course for sustainable genetic progress in the sheep and goat sectors. Our collective objective is to illuminate the path towards ethical, environmentally conscious genetic advancements that empower the sheep and goat industry to thrive in a rapidly evolving agricultural landscape.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
