Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The transition towards a circular economy in agriculture requires sustainable strategies for the management and valorization of organic waste and biomass, converting these waste streams into valuable resources. Agricultural residues, agro-industrial by-products, food waste, and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste can be recovered through innovative processes to produce renewable energy, organic fertilizers, soil amendments, and other value-added products. This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in waste-to-energy and waste-to-soil approaches, including anaerobic digestion, co-digestion, composting, digestate management, nutrient recovery, and biomass valorization, with particular attention to their contribution to sustainable agricultural production and soil fertility. Studies investigating the fate of bio-based and biodegradable polymers during anaerobic digestion and composting are also included, particularly when related to sustainable waste management and circular agriculture.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
