Prof. Dr. Chenzhong Li is the Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry and the Deputy Director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Before joining Tulane in 2021, Prof. Dr. Li held the Worlds Ahead professor position in Biomedical Engineering, and he is also the director of the Nanobioengineering/Bioelectronics Core at Florida International University (Miami).
Prof. Dr. Li is the former Program Director of the Biosensing Program of the National Science Foundation for the USA and he oversaw research projects in the fields of biosensors and biomedical devices.
Prof. Dr. Li is a world-renowned expert in bioinstrumentation, specifically in the development of biomedical devices for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes; these devices can also have cross-applications for disease diagnosis, environmental and food safety monitoring, drug screening, and homeland security. The impact of his work is documented in 15 granted patents and around 160 peer-reviewed journal papers. Prof. Dr. Li’s research interests include biosensors, Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), cell/tissue electronics, the neuron–device interface, cell/organ-on-a-chip, electric therapy, as well as the electron transfer study of various biomaterials. He is the founder of three startup companies in China, Canada, and the USA.
In recognition of his work, Prof. Dr. Li has received several awards and honors, including the Kauffman Entrepreneurship Professor Award, the JSPS (Japan) Professor Fellowship Award, the 2016 Pioneer in Technology Development Award from the Society of Braining Mapping, and the 2016 Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Award in Cancer Research from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
Prof. Dr. Li is the elected fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and a fellow member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
