“30 Years of Open Science, Built Together”: MDPI Celebrates 30 Years of Open Access Publishing
MDPI celebrates its 30th anniversary, reflecting three decades of working alongside researchers, editors, and institutions to make scientific knowledge openly available to everyone.
To mark the occasion, we have launched a dedicated anniversary page at mdpi.com, bringing together a reflection on our journey: a celebratory video tracing our history and purpose, 30 landmark articles across four themes that shaped science and society, key milestones from our history, and voices from colleagues and collaborators across our global community.
Thirty years ago, what we now call open access was a forward-looking idea. Today, 4.6 million researchers have published with us, with readers generating 1.9 billion article reads in a single year. MDPI is proud to be among the publishers that moved scientific publishing to open access. That is something worth celebrating.
We invite you to explore the anniversary page, watch the video, and share it within your networks.
