Cover Story: This issue of Proceedings gathers scientific contributions presented at the 5th International Symposium on Sensor Science (Barcelona, Spain, 27–29 September 2017). This congress brought together scientists from different areas to discuss recent developments in sensor technology. It was a forum to discuss synergies and applications of sensors in important fields such as health monitoring, environment control, food safety and security, or industrial applications.
