Cover Story: The utility of MRI to detect changes in images reflecting pancreatic histological and pathophysiological alterations in patients with diabetes has been increasingly explored. However, diabetes-related pancreatic changes on MRI, especially those in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the differences to those in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), remain unclear. This study assesses the pancreatic changes on MRI in both T1D and T2D patients and clarifies the differences in imaging findings of the pancreas between these categories of patients versus those without diabetes using multiparametric MRI. Multiparametric MRI of the pancreas provides characteristic imaging findings in both T1D and T2D patients and may have the potential to improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of these diseases while monitoring disease progression.
