Cover Story: Different Colletotrichum species cause anthracnose disease in legumes, resulting in significant economic losses. Symptoms include dark, sunken lesions on leaves, stems, or fruits. Colletotrichum spp. synthesize unique metabolites involved in host infection. This study employs the OSMAC approach, combining targeted and non-targeted metabolomics profiling, to investigate secondary phytotoxic metabolites produced by pathogenic isolates of Colletotrichum truncatum and Colletotrichum trifolii. The phytotoxicity of fungal crude extracts was assessed on primary hosts and related legumes, correlating with the metabolite profile under different cultural conditions. This is the first application of OSMAC and metabolomics to Colletotrichum species in legume diseases. View this paper
