Cover Story: Chemsex, using specific psychoactive substances (e.g., GHB/GBL, methamphetamine) during sexual activity, is an emerging public health issue among UK men who have sex with men (MSM), with mental health implications. This study investigated drug-use patterns and the prevalence of anxiety/depression symptoms in this population. An online survey of 141 UK MSM engaging in Chemsex employed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The findings indicate frequent use of Chemsex drugs. A significant proportion met the HADS criteria for anxiety (49.9%) and depression (27.0%). Notably, prevalence rates for both were highest among weekly users. These findings highlight the need for targeted mental health interventions and harm-reduction strategies for UK MSM involved in Chemsex. View this paper
