Cover Story: PVD TiN coating is well-known for increasing the life of metal cutting and forming tools through enhanced friction and wear properties. PVD TiN coating has potential to improve the corrosion and oxidation resistance due to its high chemical stability and relative inertness, but is limited due to inherent coating defects such as pin holes, voids and macro-particles. This work seeks to improve the corrosion properties through modification of selected deposition process variables. View this paper.
