Cover Story: College students vary in their satisfaction with their choice of major. Students’ understanding of personality was assessed with the ability-based Test of Personal Intelligence (TOPI); students’ thoughts and feelings about their majors were assessed using a new 26-item Choice of Major Scale (CMS). In three studies, the TOPI and CMS were administered to college students along with indices such as when they chose their major, changes in major, and their GPAs. Students with higher TOPI and CMS scores considered more majors initially, chose a major more quickly, and exhibited better academic outcomes subsequently. View this paper
