Cover Story: Popularity and participation in bodybuilding is increasing. This study examined the dietary strategies used by experienced natural bodybuilders. During the off-season, energy and protein intake was high to achieve muscular hypertrophy. To produce an energy deficit and fat loss, progressive reductions in fat and carbohydrate intake occurred during the in-season, while protein intake remained high to maintain muscle mass. Novel strategies such as weekly refeed days to offset metabolic downgrades, and sodium and fluid manipulation, were incorporated during the in-season. View this paper
