Cover Story: More electric air vehicles such as drones could bring important environmental and societal benefits, such as medical deliveries to remote areas or reduction of carbon footprint in parcel delivery. A scenario with drones inundating our skies is therefore more likely than ever.  However, community noise impact is one of the main barriers putting the wider adoption of drones at risk. This paper presents the results of a subjective experiment to investigate noise perception of a comprehensive set of drone sounds encompassing different flying operations, size, weight, and distance from the received. The findings of this paper can facilitate a better understanding of the key psychoacoustic factors to account for when planning drone operations, to mitigate community noise impact. View this paper
