Background/Introduction: Psychological inflexibility, which includes experiential avoidance, is a transdiagnostic process associated with multiple mental health issues in adolescence. Physical fitness (PF) has shown benefits for mental well-being, yet its specific relationship with psychological inflexibility remains understudied, particularly among youth. Objectives: To examine the association between components of PF and psychological inflexibility, measured by the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), in a representative sample of Spanish adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from 631 adolescents (aged 12–17) participating in the Eating Healthy and Daily Life Activities (EHDLA) study. PF was assessed by the Assessing the Levels of PHysical Activity and Fitness (ALPHA-Fit) Test Battery (cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, agility, and flexibility). Psychological inflexibility was measured using the AAQ-II. Generalized linear models (GLMs) were used to evaluate associations, adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, socioeconomic status, physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep duration, and energy intake. Results: Unadjusted analyses showed weak but significant associations between psychological inflexibility and performance in the 20 m shuttle run test (p = 0.002), the 4 × 10 shuttle run test (p = 0.005), and the sit-and-reach test (p < 0.001). However, after adjusting for covariates, none of the PF components maintained a statistically significant association with the AAQ-II scores. Conclusions: In this adolescent sample, PF components were not independently associated with psychological inflexibility after adjustment for key confounders. These findings suggest that, while PF may contribute to general well-being, it is not a primary determinant of psychological inflexibility. Further longitudinal and intervention studies are needed to clarify the mechanisms linking physical and psychological health in youth. Full article

The shift from Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs) to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) has accelerated global efforts to decarbonize transportation. However, battery degradation, high costs, and limited lifespan remain critical barriers. This review synthesizes recent innovations to extend Li-ion battery life in BEVs by exploring advances in degradation modeling, adaptive Battery Management Systems (BMSs), electronic component simulations, and real-world usage profiling. The authors have systematically analyzed over 80 recent studies using a PRISMA-guided review protocol. A novel comparative framework highlights gaps in current literature, particularly regarding real-world driving impacts, ripple current effects, and second-life battery applications. This review article critically compares model-driven, data-driven, and hybrid model approaches, emphasizing trade-offs in interpretability, accuracy, and deployment feasibility. Finally, the review links battery life extension to broader sustainability metrics, including circular economy models and predictive maintenance algorithms. This review offers actionable insights for researchers, engineers, and policymakers aiming to design longer-lasting and more sustainable electric mobility systems. Full article

The rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and new energy systems has put lithium-ion batteries at the center of the clean energy change. Nevertheless, to achieve the best battery performance, safety, and sustainability in many changing circumstances, major innovations are needed in Battery Management Systems (BMS). This review paper explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin (DT) technologies can be integrated to enable the intelligent BMS of the future. It investigates how powerful data approaches such as deep learning, ensembles, and models that rely on physics improve the accuracy of predicting state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), and remaining useful life (RUL). Additionally, the paper reviews progress in AI features for cooling, fast charging, fault detection, and intelligible AI models. Working together, cloud and edge computing technology with DTs means better diagnostics, predictive support, and improved management for any use of EVs, stored energy, and recycling. The review underlines recent successes in AI-driven material research, renewable battery production, and plans for used systems, along with new problems in cybersecurity, combining data and mass rollout. We spotlight important research themes, existing problems, and future drawbacks following careful analysis of different up-to-date approaches and systems. Uniting physical modeling with AI-based analytics on cloud-edge-DT platforms supports the development of tough, intelligent, and ecologically responsible batteries that line up with future mobility and wider use of renewable energy. The typical ranges available for electric vehicles (EVs) may be considered by users to be inadequate when compared to long, real-life trips, and charging operations may need to be planned along journeys. To evaluate the compatibility between vehicle features and charging options for realistic journeys performed by car, a simulation approach is proposed here, using travel data collected from real vehicles to obtain trip chains for multiple consecutive days. Car travel activities, including stops with the option of charging, were simulated by applying an agent-based approach. Charging operations can be integrated into trip chains for user activities, assuming that they remain unchanged in the event that vehicles switch to electric. The energy consumption of the analyzed trips, disaggregated by vehicle type, was estimated using the average travel speed, which is useful for capturing the main route features (ranging from urban to motorways). Data were recorded for approximately 25,000 vehicles in the Turin Metropolitan Area for six consecutive days. Market segmentation of the vehicles was introduced to take into consideration different energy consumption rates and charging times, given that the electric power, battery size, and consumption rate can be related to the vehicle category. Charging activities carried out using public infrastructure during idle time between consecutive trips, as well as those carried out at home or work, were identified in order to model different needs. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have started to be used more and more due to the benefits they bring. Failure of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle components may result in loss of control, which may cause property damage or personal injury. In order to increase the operational safety of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, the implementation of a Predictive Maintenance system using the Internet of Things is required. In this paper, the authors propose a new architecture of Predictive Maintenance system for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles that is able to identify the fault type of Brushless DC electric motor and determine the Remaining Useful Life of the Li-ion batteries. In order to create the Predictive Maintenance system within the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, an architecture based on Fog Computing was proposed and Machine Learning was used to extract knowledge from the data. The growing popularity of Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs), such as e-scooters, has revolutionized urban mobility by offering compact, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation solutions. However, safety concerns, including inadequate infrastructure, poor protective measures, and high accident rates, remain critical challenges. This paper presents the design and development of an innovative self-balancing microvehicle under the H2020 LEONARDO project, which aims to address these challenges through advanced engineering and user-centric design. The vehicle combines features of monowheels and e-scooters, integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance safety, stability, and usability. The design adheres to European regulations, including Germany’s eKFV standards, and incorporates user preferences identified through representative online surveys of 1500 PLEV users. These preferences include improved handling on uneven surfaces, enhanced signaling capabilities, and reduced instability during maneuvers. The prototype features a lightweight composite structure reinforced with carbon fibers, a high-torque motorized front wheel, and multiple speed modes tailored to different conditions, such as travel in pedestrian areas, use by novice riders, and advanced users. Braking tests demonstrate deceleration values of up to 3.5 m/s2, comparable to PLEV market standards and exceeding regulatory minimums, while smooth acceleration ramps ensure rider stability and safety. Additional features, such as identification plates and weight-dependent motor control, enhance compliance with local traffic rules and prevent misuse. The vehicle’s design also addresses common safety concerns, such as curb navigation and signaling, by incorporating large-diameter wheels, increased ground clearance, and electrically operated direction indicators. Future upgrades include the addition of a second rear wheel for enhanced stability, skateboard-like rear axle modifications for improved maneuverability, and hybrid supercapacitors to minimize fire risks and extend battery life. With its focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and rider-friendly innovations, this microvehicle represents a significant advancement in promoting safe and sustainable urban mobility. Full article

Large-scale battery datasets often contain anomalous data due to sensor noise, communication errors, and operational inconsistencies, which degrade the accuracy of data-driven prognostics. However, many existing studies overlook the impact of such anomalies or apply filtering heuristically without rigorous benchmarking, which can potentially introduce biases into training and evaluation pipelines. This study presents a deep learning framework that integrates autoencoder-based anomaly detection with a residual neural network (ResNet) to achieve state-of-the-art prediction of remaining useful life at the cycle level using only a single-cycle input. The framework systematically filters out anomalous samples using multiple variants of convolutional and sequence-to-sequence autoencoders, thereby enhancing data integrity before optimizing and training the ResNet-based models. Benchmarking against existing deep learning approaches demonstrates a significant performance improvement, with the best model achieving a mean absolute percentage error of 2.85% and a root mean square error of 40.87 cycles, surpassing prior studies. These results indicate that autoencoder-based anomaly filtering significantly enhances prediction accuracy, reinforcing the importance of systematic anomaly detection in battery prognostics. The proposed method provides a scalable and interpretable solution for intelligent battery management in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Full article

The widespread integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into smart grid infrastructures necessitates intelligent and robust battery health diagnostics to ensure system resilience and performance longevity. While numerous studies have addressed the estimation of State of Health (SOH) and the prediction of remaining useful life (RUL) using machine and deep learning, most existing models fail to capture both short-term degradation trends and long-range contextual dependencies jointly. In this study, we introduce V2G-HealthNet, a novel hybrid deep learning framework that uniquely combines Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks with Transformer-based attention mechanisms to model battery degradation under dynamic vehicle-to-grid (V2G) scenarios. Unlike prior approaches that treat SOH estimation in isolation, our method directly links health prediction to operational decisions by enabling SOH-informed adaptive load scheduling and predictive maintenance across EV fleets. Trained on over 3400 proxy charge-discharge cycles derived from 1 million telemetry samples, V2G-HealthNet achieved state-of-the-art performance (SOH RMSE: 0.015, MAE: 0.012, R2: 0.97), outperforming leading baselines including XGBoost and Random Forest. For RUL prediction, the model maintained an MAE of 0.42 cycles over a five-cycle horizon. Importantly, deployment simulations revealed that V2G-HealthNet triggered maintenance alerts at least three cycles ahead of critical degradation thresholds and redistributed high-load tasks away from ageing batteries—capabilities not demonstrated in previous works. These findings establish V2G-HealthNet as a deployable, health-aware control layer for smart city electrification strategies. Full article

The accurate estimation and prediction of internal states in lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries, such as State of Charge (SoC) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL), are vital for optimizing battery performance, safety, and longevity in electric vehicles and other applications. This paper presents a unified, modular, and extensible machine learning (ML) framework designed to address the heterogeneity and complexity of battery state prediction tasks. The proposed framework supports flexible configurations across multiple dimensions, including feature engineering, model selection, and training/testing strategies. It integrates standardized data processing pipelines with a diverse set of ML models, such as a long short-term memory neural network (LSTM), a convolutional neural network (CNN), a feedforward neural network (FFNN), automated machine learning (AutoML), and classical regressors, while accommodating heterogeneous datasets. The framework’s applicability is demonstrated through five distinct use cases involving SoC estimation and RUL prediction using real-world and benchmark datasets. Experimental results highlight the framework’s adaptability, methodological transparency, and robust predictive performance across various battery chemistries, usage profiles, and degradation conditions. This work contributes to a standardized approach that facilitates the reproducibility, comparability, and practical deployment of ML-based battery analytics. Full article

Remaining useful life (RUL) serves as a pivotal metric for quantifying lithium-ion batteries’ state of health (SOH) in electric vehicles and plays a crucial role in ensuring their safety and reliability. In order to achieve accurate and reliable RUL prediction, a novel RUL prediction method which employs a back propagation (BP) neural network based on the Harris Hawks optimization (HHO) algorithm is proposed. This method optimizes the BP parameters using the improved HHO algorithm. At first, the circle chaotic mapping method is utilized to solve the problem of the initial value. Considering the problem of local convergence, Gaussian mutation is introduced to improve the search ability of the algorithm. Subsequently, two key health factors are selected as input features for the model, including the constant-current charging isovoltage rise time and constant-current discharging isovoltage drop time. The model is validated using aging data from commercial lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. Finally, the model is thoroughly verified under an aging test. Experimental validation using training sets comprising 50%, 60%, and 70% of the cycle data demonstrates superior predictive performance, with mean absolute error (MAE) values below 0.012, root mean square error (RMSE) values below 0.017 and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) within 0.95%. The results indicate that the model significantly improves prediction accuracy, robustness and searchability. Full article

This paper presents the results of the mathematical modeling and experimental studies of charging a traction lithium-ion battery of a passenger electric car using an integrated charger based on a traction voltage inverter. An original three-stage charging algorithm (3PT/PN) has been developed and implemented, which provides a sequential decrease in the charging current when the specified voltage and temperature levels of the battery module are reached. As part of this study, a comprehensive mathematical model has been created that takes into account the features of the power circuit, control algorithms, thermal effects and characteristics of the storage battery. The model has been successfully verified based on the experimental data obtained when charging the battery module in real conditions. The maximum error of voltage modeling has been 0.71%; that of current has not exceeded 1%. The experiments show the achievement of a realized capacity of 8.9 Ah and an integral efficiency of 85.5%, while the temperature regime remains within safe limits. The proposed approach provides a high charge rate, stability of the thermal state of the battery and a long service life. The results can be used to optimize the charging infrastructure of electric vehicles and to develop intelligent battery module management systems. Full article

Lithium–ion (Li–ion) batteries are fundamental for advancing intelligent and sustainable transportation, particularly in electric vehicles, due to their long lifespan, high energy density, and strong power efficiency. Ensuring the safety and reliability of EV batteries remains a critical challenge, as undetected faults can lead to hazardous failures or gradual performance degradation. While numerous studies have addressed battery fault detection, most existing reviews adopt isolated perspectives, often overlooking interdisciplinary and intelligent approaches. This paper presents a comprehensive review of advanced battery fault detection using modern machine learning, deep learning, and hybrid methods. It also discusses the pressing challenges in the field, including limited fault data, real-time processing constraints, model adaptability across battery types, and the need for explainable AI. Furthermore, emerging AI approaches such as transformers, graph neural networks, physics-informed models, edge computing, and large language models present new opportunities for intelligent and scalable battery fault detection. Looking ahead, these frameworks, combined with AI-driven strategies, can enhance diagnostic precision, extend battery life, and strengthen safety while enabling proactive fault prevention and building trust in EV systems. This paper proposes a RUL prediction method for lithium-ion batteries based on an improved Dempster–Shafer (D-S) evidence theory framework, which aims to improve the accuracy and robustness of prediction by integrating the advantages of a wavelet packet decomposition convolutional neural network (WPD-CNN) and an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The results show that the improved D-S theory overcomes the limitations of the classical D-S theory, improves the accuracy and robustness of diagnosis and prediction, and can effectively integrate multi-source information. Experimental verification shows that the fused model is significantly better than a single model in terms of prediction accuracy and robustness, providing an efficient and reliable solution for fault diagnosis and health management of lithium-ion batteries. The accurate prediction of remaining useful life (RUL) is crucial in order to reasonably and efficiently utilize lithium-ion batteries (LiBs). In this paper, a construction method of periodic time series is applied to the degradation data of LiBs to address the issues of insufficient training data and smooth degradation in the RUL interval prediction method based on trend filtering segmentation and fuzzy information granulation. The construction method for periodic time series is used to form a new dataset from the original data, based on which the fusion model, by combining the variational mode decomposition (VMD) and gated recurrent unit (GRU), is used as the RUL interval prediction model of LiBs. Moreover, the effectiveness and advantage of the RUL interval prediction method proposed in this paper was verified and analyzed by utilizing the CALCE battery dataset and NCA battery dataset. Accurate estimation of the state of health (SOH) and remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) is critical for ensuring battery reliability and safety in applications such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems. However, existing methods developed for estimating the SOH and RUL of LiBs often rely on full-cycle charging data, which are difficult to obtain in engineering practice. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a novel data-driven method to estimate the SOH and RUL of LiBs only using partial charging curve features. Key health features are extracted from the constant voltage (CV) charging process and voltage relaxation, validated through Pearson correlation analysis and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) interpretability. A hybrid framework combining CatBoost for SOH estimation and particle swarm optimization-support vector regression (PSO-SVR) for RUL estimation is developed. Experimental validation on public datasets demonstrates superior performance of the methodology described above, with an SOH estimation root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) below 1.42% and 0.52% and RUL estimation relative error (RE) under 1.87%. The proposed methodology also exhibits robustness and computational efficiency, making it suitable for battery management systems (BMSs) of LiBs. Full article
