In recent decades, bathroom design has undergone significant changes driven by technological advances, aesthetic trends, and social transformations. Despite their relevance to daily routines and quality of life, bathrooms remain underexplored with regard to how cladding materials influence users’ psychological experience. This study aims to analyze the effects of different bathroom cladding materials on perception, emotional response, and purchase intention. An online experiment was conducted using a single-factor experimental design with five types of cladding materials (ceramic, vinyl, wood, microcement, and natural stone). A total of 58 participants evaluated five virtual bathroom stimuli through self-report measures assessing perceived well-being, perceived stress, perceived functionality, perceived aesthetic preference, perceived cost, emotional valence, and purchase intention. Data were analyzed using nonparametric statistical tests. The results revealed significant differences across all perceptual dimensions depending on the cladding material. Wood and natural stone were associated with higher levels of perceived well-being and more pleasant emotional responses, whereas microcement was linked to higher perceived stress and lower aesthetic evaluations. In addition, affective variables—particularly aesthetic preference—emerged as the strongest predictors of purchase intention. These findings highlight the importance of bathroom materiality in shaping emotional experience and decision-making processes, and emphasize the role of cladding selection in promoting psychological well-being within domestic environments. Background: Parents are children’s primary role models, are food and physical activity gatekeepers, and create the home structure/lifestyle environment. Thus, parents strongly influence children’s weight-related behaviors and have the opportunity to cultivate a “culture of health” within the home. Methods: The aim of the HomeStyles-2 (also called HomeStyles-Child) RCT was to determine whether this online, novel, age-appropriate, family intervention enabled and motivated the 131 systematically randomly assigned by computer parents of children in middle childhood (ages 6 to 11) in the experimental condition to shape home environments and healthy weight-related lifestyle practices to be more supportive of optimal health and reduced obesity risk in middle childhood youth more than the 134 counterparts assigned to the attention control condition. Results: This RCT demonstrated the feasibility of online delivery of a health promotion intervention to parents of children in middle childhood, which may inform the development of interventions targeting other age groups and health outcomes. Results indicate the HomeStyles-Child intervention improved healthy-weight-related behavior cognitions, which are predictors of behavior change, of the experimental group. Additionally, improvements in experimental parent and child health-related behaviors were observed. These improvements occurred during a time when families faced unprecedented and extraordinary economic and social stresses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusions: HomeStyles-Child is one of the few interventions for families with middle childhood youth. It has the potential to help ameliorate obesity in middle childhood youth and, by extension, other family members. Full article

Medieval literature often seems to be a remote, irrelevant, incomprehensible world of narrative texts lost in heroic, religious, or courtly themes, limited to stories about King Arthur, courtly lovers, military heroes, and religious martyrs, saints, and prophets. In reality, as any expert can easily confirm, when we turn our full attention to pre-modern literature from across Europe (and also other parts of the world), we can often recognize the true extent to which poets utilized their narratives for spiritual, philosophical, religious, scientific, and medical explorations that have much to tell us today and prove to be deeply meaningful in a timeless manner. One key aspect, which was shared among virtually all medieval artists, poets, and theologians, consisted of the unique experience by an individual who is entitled through a physical opening to see into the depth or the height of all existence and can thus discover a wholly different world. Through this motif of the gaze, an entire epiphanic realization can set in, which thus quickly transforms the purely entertaining narrative medium into a narrative catalyst of profound spiritual experiences, helping the individual to gain inspiration from the Godhead (e.g., mysticism). Indeed, numerous times, medieval poets employed the motif of the visionary gaze, developed in very concrete terms, to trace and explain the process of perspicuity and accompanying acuity which ultimately leads to new intellectual, emotional, and religious understandings and experiences. While many intellectuals already embraced this notion of a visionary concept of spiritual comprehension, it might come as a surprise that secular and religious poets also operated quite intentionally with the concept of a hole in the wall or some other opening as a springboard for intellectual and spiritual experiences, directly drawing from the concepts of the optical sciences as understood at that time. Oddly but highly significantly, Christian and pagan notions tend to intersect in those narrative moments, particularly in late medieval literature, merging the visionary experience with the monstrous within human society, associating the gaze with the erotic and religious dimension. This article documents and analyzes a three-month intercultural performance collaboration with Metamorphosis Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, during the summer of 1992—a pivotal moment following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Drawing on the author’s fieldwork methodology developed through decades of collaboration with Indigenous communities in Alaska, Southern Africa, and Siberia, the project employed trance techniques, rhythm-based training, and ritual archaeology to reconstruct pre-Christian Slavic performance practices. The resulting production, Shadows from the Planet Fire, emerged through a process that positioned ritual not as nostalgic revival but as a living technology for addressing cultural trauma and existential displacement. This account contributes to performance studies, applied theatre, and cultural heritage discourse by demonstrating how cosmocentric Indigenous methodologies can be adapted to address the spiritual and psychological wounds of post-industrial, post-colonial societies. The work establishes foundational principles for what the author terms “Techdigenous” practice—the synthesis of Indigenous wisdom traditions with contemporary performance contexts—and argues for ritual as a necessary consciousness technology in an era of ecological crisis and cultural fragmentation. The preservation of littoral zones faces escalating challenges from global thermal forcing and anthropogenic pressure, particularly in vulnerable basins like the Mediterranean. This research proposes an expanded Coastal Vulnerability Index to assess 253 km of beaches across the Valencian Community (Spain), integrating sediment durability parameters for the first time. Methodologically, an arithmetic mean of ten physical, biotic, and sedimentological indicators was employed, including a novel Sediment Quality Classification Index (SQCI) derived from accelerated particle wear tests as a key resilience indicator. Results reveal that 40.9% of the coastline exhibits high or very high risk, reaching critical levels in the province of Valencia due to key driving factors such as a 91.8% proportion of fine sediments and the severe degradation of its dune systems. Conversely, the presence of Posidonia oceanica meadows in Alicante acts as a key resilience factor. It is possible to conclude that the mechanical quality of sediment is a determinant for the longevity of protection measures, highlighting the necessity of transitioning from rigid infrastructures towards ecosystem-based adaptation to enhance regional resilience. Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic, immune-mediated cholestatic liver disease characterized by progressive intrahepatic bile duct destruction, leading to pruritus, fatigue, cirrhosis, and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma. Early diagnosis has improved with the development of sensitive serologic assays (e.g., antimitochondrial antibodies, antinuclear antibodies) and the introduction of newer biomarkers. Risk stratification has become standardized with the help of GLOBE and UK-PBC scores, alongside non-invasive tools such as vibration-controlled transient elastography, enabling earlier intervention. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is the first-line therapy; however, 30–40% of patients show an incomplete response, increasing their risk of liver failure and mortality. Second-line therapies have emerged which provide viable treatment avenues for those who do not respond to UDCA or are unable to tolerate it. However, in certain situations, such as decompensated cirrhosis, carcinoma, or refractory pruritus, liver transplantation constitutes the only curative therapy. While PBC has excellent post-liver transplant (post-LT) outcomes, patients with PBC face higher waitlist mortality as they tend to have lower MELD scores. Management post-LT includes the use of UDCA, immunosuppressants, and surveillance for recurrent PBC. Our review highlights the recent advances in medical management and transplant risk stratification of patients at risk of decompensation, as well as the perioperative transplant period outcomes and long-term post-transplant management strategies in patients with PBC. This study examines the impact of corporate sustainability practices on firm performance, sustainable development, and value by focusing on ESG performance, sustainability committees, and sustainability reporting. While prior literature documents a general association between ESG performance and firm value, limited attention has been paid to the role of sustainability governance structures and their contribution to sustainable development outcomes, particularly SDGs disclosure, in a multi-country setting. Sustainable development is proxied by an SDGs disclosure index constructed using firm-level disclosures aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals based on LSEG (Refinitiv) ESG item-level data. The analysis controls for firm size, leverage, profitability, industry-, and country-level institutional factors to ensure robust results. Using panel data comprising 36,438 firm-year observations from 6073 companies across OECD member countries from 2017 to 2022, this study employs a fixed-effects model based on diagnostic tests, including the Hausman and Breusch–Pagan tests. The findings revealed that higher ESG performance scores positively influence both sustainable development outcomes and market value. Moreover, the presence of sustainability committees and broader sustainability reporting further strengthens these relationships. These results highlight the importance of institutional sustainability governance in translating ESG commitments into measurable firm values and SDG-related outcomes. This study provides novel empirical evidence on how sustainability-focused governance mechanisms enhance corporate contributions to sustainable development, offering important implications for managers and policymakers as well as directions for future research. This article examines the exchange of ideas between Merton and Ruether on creation. Merton’s sacramental views and Ruether’s eco-feminist perspectives rooted in an incarnational spirituality can serve as a corrective to those who regard the Earth as an object of consumerism, which leads to the degradation and the desacralization of matter. I will examine how the way out offered by Merton and Ruether reflects an integral eco-spirituality responsive to and in resonance with the supreme reality that permeates everything. As Rosemary Ruether, Sallie McFague, Elizabeth Johnson, and other Christian eco-feminists have described in metaphorical language, the world may be conceived of as a kind of self-giving activity of God’s body in feminine terms. According to this view, a constant birth of life is taking place in a universe ultimately rooted in the cosmic womb of divine love to which Ruether referred as the Great Mother. I will show examples of their writings where both Merton and Ruether highly emphasized the importance of seeing the good creation reflecting God’s love for all creatures. I will conclude by pondering on the ecological implications of their writings, where they address the environmental threats that global warming and climate change caused by humans pose to Mother Earth. Background/Objectives: Chrononutrition is an emergent field concerning the effect of eating patterns on human health and their relationship with biological rhythms. Current evidence points towards the benefits of early eating in the prevention of non-communicable diseases and circadian health. Despite the importance of eating/fasting rhythm, current methods are neither specific nor validated against physiological variables. This work aimed to explore an objective metabolic outcome, postprandial glucose, as an accuracy indicator of self-declared meal schedules registered in a mobile app. Methods: A 1-week protocol of ambulatory monitoring of meal schedules, glucose, and circadian variables was performed in 20 young adults. Meal annotations were registered using KronoEat 1.0, a smartphone app, allowing for both prospective and recall entries. A circadian monitoring device provided data on movement intensity, distal skin temperature, and prospective food annotation. Results: Participants annotated an average of 3.5 food events/day/participant with KronoEat. Breakfast (92.7%) and lunch (86.4%) showed the highest proportion of food events related to a glycemic excursion, whereas this proportion was lower for dinner (79.7%) and snacks (67.7%). Postprandial glucose after main meals differed significantly from average glucose levels. Interesting couplings were found in circadian variables and glucose—for example, between post-breakfast glycemic excursions and the morning increase in activity. Conclusions: Meal schedules registered under free-living conditions in KronoEat show high levels of correlation with postprandial glucose and glycemic excursions derived from continuous glucose monitoring. Humic substances (HSs) pose a significant challenge to safe drinking-water production due to their ubiquity, limited removal by conventional methods, and their role in forming toxic disinfection by-products, reinforcing the need for more efficient, energy-favorable, and scalable treatment technologies. This study developed and evaluated a compact hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) system that simultaneously induces coagulation and generates microbubbles for flotation-based HS removal. For the first time, HC is explored as a multifunctional unit capable of integrating rapid mixing, coagulant destabilization, and flotation within a single device. Optimal coagulation conditions were established at pH 5.0 and 9.5 mg L−1 of ferric chloride. Process optimization using a Rotated Central Composite Design demonstrated that inlet pressure, flotation time, and initial HS concentration were the dominant operational factors, enabling the HC system to achieve a maximum removal efficiency of 81.9%. Five Venturi geometries with divergent angles of 4°, 8°, 11°, 14°, and 90° were investigated, with the 8° Venturi exhibiting superior performance due to stable microbubble formation and effective coagulant dispersion, as confirmed by CFD analyses. Comparative tests with a conventional Flotest unit showed that achieving similar efficiencies required at least 30% saturated water. In contrast, the HC system delivered equivalent removal in continuous flow without external air saturation. These findings demonstrate the potential of HC as an integrated coagulation–flotation core and highlight its promise as a compact, energy-efficient, and scalable technology for natural organic matter removal in water treatment. In recent years, industry development has become closely connected with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and trade openness. This research explores how industry, ICT, economic activity, and trade openness affect the environment, highlighting the importance of investing in low-carbon technologies and energy-efficient machinery. The goal of this research is to investigate the short- and long-run impacts of industrialization, ICT, economic activity, and trade openness on per capita carbon emissions in Lithuania from 2000 to 2024. This study employs the ARDL econometric model along with several diagnostic tests. The Breusch–Godfrey Serial Correlation test indicated no serial correlation, while the Breusch–Pagan–Godfrey test indicated no heteroscedasticity. The Ramsey RESET test confirmed that the model specification is appropriate and significant for the research. Additionally, the VIF test for multicollinearity indicates that no multicollinearity exists among the research variables. The research results show that industrialization and economic activity are positively associated with per capita carbon emissions and environmental harm. In contrast, trade openness and ICT are negatively associated with per capita carbon emissions in Lithuania, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability. The novelty of this research: a specific combination of variables combining key structural (industrialization), integration (trade openness), and digital diffusion (ICT penetration) determinants of CO2 emissions within a specific single-country context, applying the ARDL framework for the Baltic EU member state, Lithuania. While prior studies primarily relied on multi-country panels and often treat ICT through heterogeneous proxies, this study operationalizes ICT as internet-user penetration to capture digital integration effects—an important distinction for small open economies where energy-intensive digital infrastructure may be located abroad. By separating short-run from long-run dynamics, the analysis offers evidence on how the environmental effects of openness, growth, and digitalization unfold over time, using recent data up to 2024 and providing policy recommendations encouraging decarbonization strategies. Given global efforts to promote sustainable energy transitions, this study investigates how the deployment of renewable energy technologies (RETs) relates to multidimensional societal welfare and provides empirical evidence on these linkages in Lithuania. The purpose of the study is to provide an integrated, Lithuania-specific assessment of how economic, social, and environmental determinants associated with RET deployment are related to multiple dimensions of societal welfare. Drawing on scientific literature, an integrated indicator framework is developed that links the economic, social, and environmental determinants of renewable energy technology (RET) deployment to six societal welfare dimensions, as defined by the Lithuanian Quality of Life Index. Using official Lithuanian statistics for 2020–2024, a standardized panel dataset is constructed and Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression are applied using aggregated determinant categories, with model assumptions verified using the Breusch–Pagan and Durbin–Watson tests. Correlation results show very strong positive links between RET intensity indicators and key economic welfare measures (for example, wages, GDP per capita, foreign direct investment, disposable income), with absolute correlation coefficients typically between 0.90 and 0.99 (p < 0.05), and strong negative correlations between air-pollution indicators and GDP, income, FDI, and education (correlation coefficients between −0.96 and −0.90; p < 0.05). The results indicate that RET-related economic determinants have a statistically significant positive effect on the societal welfare dimensions of material living conditions; entrepreneurship/business competitiveness; and public infrastructure, living-environment quality/safety. Social factors also significantly support the societal welfare dimensions of entrepreneurship/business competitiveness and public infrastructure, living-environment quality/safety. In the retained regression models, explanatory power is very high (R2 between 0.91 and 0.999), with positive and statistically significant coefficients for the economic determinant (regression coefficients between 0.43 and 0.96; p < 0.05) and negative, statistically significant coefficients for the environmental determinant in the entrepreneurship and public-infrastructure dimensions (regression coefficients between −1.13 and −1.51; p < 0.05). Environmental determinants are associated with lower air pollution but show negative effects on the societal welfare dimensions of entrepreneurship/business competitiveness and public infrastructure, living-environment quality/safety. Overall, the findings suggest that RET deployment is an important correlate of the economic aspects of societal welfare, while environmental and social dimensions display more complex, domain-specific impacts. Background/Objectives: Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a transitional stage between normal aging and early dementia, affecting up to 20% of older adults. Sleep disturbances, particularly insomnia, affect around 60% of individuals with MCI, contributing to declines in cognitive and physical function. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is an evidence-based non-pharmacological treatment, few studies have adapted it for individuals with MCI. This pilot study developed and evaluated Slumber, a clinician-supported mobile CBT-I app tailored for older adults with MCI and insomnia. Methods: The study had three aims: (1) to develop the app for delivering CBT-I to individuals with MCI; (2) to evaluate its usability and refine smart messaging prompts; and (3) to assess the feasibility of outcome measurement while detecting exploratory signals of change through a 6-week pilot trial. N = 19 participants completed the trial. Results: A significant reduction in insomnia severity was observed (mean difference = −2.06; p = 0.0131), while changes in cognitive and physical functioning were not statistically significant. Participants reported high satisfaction with the app’s tracking features and motivational reminders, though some noted technical challenges with presenting and interpreting sleep analysis charts. Conclusions: Findings support the usability of the Slumber app and the feasibility of outcome measurement in this population. The observed improvement in sleep quality provides an initial signal of promise. Future studies should address user feedback, enhance technical features, and evaluate clinical effectiveness in a larger randomized trial. Full article

The detection of underground cavities and dissolution features is a critical component in assessing geohazards within karst terrains, particularly where natural processes interact with long-term human occupation. This study investigates two contrasting sites in the Sefrou region of northern Morocco: Binna, a rural travertine-dolomite system shaped by Quaternary karstification, and the urban Old Medina of Bhalil, where traditional cave dwellings are carved into carbonate formations. A combined geophysical and geological approach was applied to characterize subsurface heterogeneities and assess the extent of near-surface void development. Vertical electrical soundings (VES) at Binna site delineated high-resistivity anomalies consistent with air-filled cavities, dissolution conduits, and brecciated limestone horizons, all indicative of an active karst system. In the Bhalil old Medina site, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) with low-frequency antennas revealed strong reflection contrasts and localized signal attenuation zones corresponding to shallow natural cavities and potential anthropogenic excavations beneath densely constructed areas. Geological observations, including lithostratigraphic logging and structural cross-sections, provided additional constraints on cavity geometry, depth, and spatial distribution. The integrated results highlight a high degree of subsurface karstification across both sites and underscore the associated geotechnical risks for infrastructure, cultural heritage, and land-use stability. This work demonstrates the value of combining electrical and radar methods with geological analysis for mapping hazardous subsurface voids in cavity-prone Quaternary landscapes, offering essential insights for risk mitigation and sustainable urban and rural planning. This essay examines a ninth-century collection of excerpts from Suetonius’s Lives of the Caesars compiled by Heiric of Auxerre (841–c.880), a monk, when he was a student of Abbot Lupus of Ferrières (c.805–c.862). Heiric later in his life presented the notes to Bishop Hildebold of Soissons (871–884). After reviewing the relationship between Christian learning and the pagan classics, the essay analyzes the Suetonian excerpts to determine why they were important to their monastic compilers and readers.
