Short fiber-reinforced polymer (SFRP) has been extensively applied in structural engineering due to its exceptional specific strength and superior mechanical properties. Its mechanical behavior under medium strain rate conditions has become a key focus of ongoing research. A comprehensive understanding of the response characteristics and underlying mechanisms under such conditions is of critical importance for both theoretical development and practical engineering applications. This study proposes an innovative three-dimensional (3D) multiscale constitutive model that comprehensively integrates mesoscopic fiber–matrix interface effects and pore characteristics. To systematically investigate the dynamic response and damage evolution of SFRP under medium strain rate conditions, 3D-printed SFRP porous structures with volume fractions of 25%, 35%, and 45% are designed and subjected to drop hammer impact experiments combined with multiscale numerical simulations. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that, for specimens with a 25% volume fraction, the strain rate strengthening effect is the primary contributor to the increase in peak stress. In contrast, for specimens with a 45% volume fraction, the interaction between damage evolution and strain rate strengthening leads to a more complex stress–strain response. The specific energy absorption (SEA) of 25% volume fraction specimens increases markedly with increasing strain rate. However, for specimens with 35% and 45% volume fractions, the competition between these two mechanisms results in non-monotonic variations in energy absorption efficiency (EAE). The dominant failure mode under impact loading is shear-dominated compression, with damage evolution becoming increasingly complex as the fiber volume fraction increases. Furthermore, the damage characteristics transition from fiber pullout and matrix folding at lower volume fractions to the coexistence of brittle and ductile behaviors at higher volume fractions. The numerical simulations exhibit strong agreement with the experimental data. Multi-directional cross-sectional analysis further indicates that the initiation and propagation of shear bands are the principal drivers of structural instability. This study offers a robust theoretical foundation for the impact-resistant design and dynamic performance optimization of 3D-printed short fiber-reinforced polymer (SFRP) porous structures. In the digital transformation era, understanding the relationship between digital and real economies is vital for regional development. This study analyses the interaction between these two economies in Henan Province using panel data from 18 cities (2011–2023). It incorporates policy support intensity through fuzzy set theory, applies an integrated weighting method to measure development levels, and uses regression models to assess the digital economy’s impact on the real economy. The coupling coordination degree model, kernel density estimation, and Gini coefficient reveal the coordination status and spatial distribution, while the ecological Lotka–Volterra model identifies the symbiotic patterns. The key findings are as follows: (1) The digital economy does not directly determine the state of the real economy. For example, cities such as Zhoukou and Zhumadian have low digital economy levels but high real economy levels. However, the development of the digital economy promotes the real economy without signs of diminishing returns. (2) The two economies are generally coordinated but differ spatially, with greater coordination in the Central Plains urban agglomeration. (3) The digital and real economies exhibit both collaboration and competition, with reciprocal mutualism as the dominant mode of integration. These insights provide guidance for policymakers and offer a new perspective on the integration of both economies. Full article

Natural hydrogen is generated by fairly deep processes and/or in low-permeability rocks. In such contexts, fluids circulate mainly through the network of faults and fractures. However, hydrogen flows from these hydrogen-generating layers can reach sedimentary rocks with more typical permeability and porosity, allowing H2 flows to spread out rather than be concentrated in fractures. In that case, three different H2 transport modes exist: advection (displacement of water carrying dissolved gas), diffusion, and free gas Darcy flow. Numerical models have been run to compare the efficiency of these different modes and the pathway they imply for the H2 in a sedimentary basin with active aquifers. The results show the key roles of these aquifers but also the competition between free gas flow and the dissolved gas displacement which can go in opposite directions. Even with a conservative hypothesis on the H2 charge, a gaseous phase exists at few kilometers deep as well as free gas accumulation. Gaseous phase displacement could be the faster and diffusion is neglectable. The modeling also allows us to predict where H2 is expected in the soil: in fault zones, eventually above accumulations, and, more likely, due to exsolution, above shallow aquifers. Full article

To explore the characteristics of species diversity and phylogenetic diversity, as well as the dominant processes of community construction, in different forest types (deciduous broad-leaved forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, and Chinese fir plantation) in subtropical regions, analyze the specific driving patterns of soil nutrients and other environmental factors on the formation of forest diversity in different forest types, and clarify the differences in response to environmental heterogeneity between natural forests and plantation forests. Based on 48 fixed monitoring plots of 50 m × 50 m in Shouchang Forest Farm, Jiande City, Zhejiang Province, woody plants with a diameter at breast height ≥5 cm were investigated. Species diversity indices (Margalef index, Shannon–Wiener index, Simpson index, and Pielou index), phylogenetic structure index (PD), and environmental factors were used to analyze the relationship between diversity characteristics and environmental factors through variance analysis, correlation analysis, and generalized linear models. Phylogenetic structural indices (NRI and NTI) were used, combined with a random zero model, to explore the mechanisms of community construction in different forest types. Research has found that (1) the deciduous broad-leaved forest had the highest species diversity (Margalef index of 4.121 ± 1.425) and phylogenetic diversity (PD index of 21.265 ± 7.796), significantly higher than the mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest and the Chinese fir plantation (p < 0.05); (2) there is a significant positive correlation between species richness and phylogenetic diversity, with the best fit being AIC = 70.5636 and R2 = 0.9419 in broad-leaved forests; however, the contribution of evenness is limited; (3) the specific effects of soil factors on different forest types: available phosphorus (AP) is negatively correlated with the diversity of deciduous broad-leaved forests (p < 0.05), total phosphorus (TP) promotes the diversity of coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests, while the diversity of Chinese fir plantations is significantly negatively correlated with total nitrogen (TN); (4) the phylogenetic structure of three different forest types shows a divergent pattern in deciduous broad-leaved forests, indicating that competition and exclusion dominate the construction of deciduous broad-leaved forests; the aggregation mode of Chinese fir plantation indicates that environmental filtering dominates the construction of Chinese fir plantation; the mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest is a transitional model, indicating that the mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest is influenced by both stochastic processes and ecological niche processes. In different forest types in subtropical regions, the species and phylogenetic diversity of broad-leaved forests is significantly higher than in other forest types. The impact of soil nutrients on the diversity of different forest types varies, and the characteristics of community construction in different forest types are also different. This indicates the importance of protecting the original vegetation and provides a scientific basis for improving the ecological function of artificial forest ecosystems through structural adjustment. The research results have important practical guidance value for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation in the region. Full article

The majority of the challenges faced in power system engineering are presented as constrained optimization functions, which are frequently characterized by their complicated architectures. Metaheuristics are mathematical techniques used to solve complicated optimization problems. One such technique, Artificial Rabbits Optimization (ARO), has been designed to address global optimization challenges. However, ARO has limitations in terms of search functionality, restricting its efficiency in dealing with constrained optimization environments. To improve ARO’s compatibility with a variety of challenging problems, this work proposes implementing the Cauchy mutation operator into the position-updating procedure during the exploration stage. Furthermore, a novel multi-mode control parameter is developed to facilitate a smooth transition between exploration and exploitation phases. The enhancements may boost the performance and serve as an effective optimization tool for tackling complex engineering tasks. The improved version is known as Cauchy Artificial Rabbits Optimization (CARO). The proposed CARO’s performance is evaluated using eleven power system challenges as part of the CEC2020 competition’s test set of real-world constrained problems. The experimental results demonstrate the practical applicability of the proposed CARO in engineering applications and provide areas for future investigation. Full article

With the rapid advancement of maritime sports, the integration of auxiliary unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the efficiency and safety of maritime education, particularly in tasks such as buoy deployment and escort operations. This paper presents a novel high-precision trajectory tracking control algorithm designed to ensure stable navigation of the USVs along predefined competition boundaries, thereby facilitating the reliable execution of buoy placement and escort missions. First, the paper proposes an improved adaptive fractional-order nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control (AFONFTSMC) algorithm to achieve precise trajectory tracking of the reference path. To address the challenges posed by unknown environmental disturbances and unmodeled dynamics in marine environments, a nonlinear lumped disturbance observer (NLDO) with exponential convergence properties is proposed, ensuring robust and continuous navigation performance. Additionally, an artificial potential field (APF) method is integrated to dynamically mitigate collision risks from both static and dynamic obstacles during trajectory tracking. The efficacy and practical applicability of the proposed control framework are rigorously validated through comprehensive numerical simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed algorithm achieves superior trajectory tracking accuracy under complex sea conditions, thereby offering a reliable and efficient solution for maritime sports education and related applications. The aim of this paper is to tailor the geometry and material parameters of a three-layer railway track model to achieve favorable properties for the circulation of high-speed trains at very high velocities. The three layers imply that the model should have three critical velocities for resonance. However, in many cases, some of these values are missing and must be replaced by pseudo-critical values. Since no resonance occurs at pseudo-critical velocities, even in the absence of damping, deflections never reach infinity. By using optimization techniques, it is possible to adjust the model’s parameters, so that the increase in vibrations remains minimal and does not pose a real danger. In this way, circulation velocities could be extended beyond the critical value, thereby increasing the network capacity and, consequently, improving the competitiveness of rail transport compared to other modes of transportation, thus contributing to decarbonization. The presented results are preliminary and require further analysis and validation. Several optimization techniques are implemented, leading to the establishment of designs that already have rather high pseudo-critical velocities. Further research will show how these theoretical findings can be utilized in practice. Full article

The design and optimization of drive distribution strategies are critical for enhancing the performance of Formula Student electric racing cars, which face demanding operational conditions such as rapid acceleration, tight cornering, and variable track surfaces. Given the increasing complexity of racing environments and the need for adaptive control solutions, a multi-mode adaptive drive distribution strategy for four-wheel-drive Formula Student electric racing cars is proposed in this study to meet specialized operational demands. Based on the dynamic characteristics of standardized test scenarios (e.g., straight-line acceleration and figure-eight loop), two control modes are designed: slip-ratio-based anti-slip control for longitudinal dynamics and direct yaw moment control for lateral stability. A CarSim–Simulink co-simulation platform is established, with test scenarios conforming to competition standards, including variable road adhesion coefficients (μ is 0.3–0.9) and composite curves. Simulation results indicate that, compared to conventional PID control, the proposed strategy reduces the peak slip ratio to the optimal range of 18% during acceleration and enhances lateral stability in the figure-eight loop, maintaining the sideslip angle around −0.3°. These findings demonstrate the potential for significant improvements in both performance and safety, offering a scalable framework for future developments in racing vehicle control systems. With the deceleration of China’s economic growth, the crude economic model will progressively diminish in its competitive edge, thereby posing challenges for state-level economic and technological development zones (ETDZs) in terms of transitioning their development model and grappling with low levels of total factor productivity (TFP). This study aims to evaluate the TFP of prominent cities in China, examine the influence of the establishment of state-level ETDZs on urban TFP, and investigate the moderating effect of transportation infrastructure on this relationship. The results show that the aggregate TFP of Chinese urban areas declined from 1999 to 2020, a trend linked to structural economic adjustments and persistent underutilization of capital in several regions. The establishment of state-level ETDZs has been found to exert a notable positive influence on regional TFP. The presence of transportation infrastructure plays a moderating role in facilitating state-level ETDZs, thereby enhancing regional TFP. Among various modes of transportation, highways and railways are particularly prominent in this regard. These conclusions provide a theoretical basis and decision-making reference for further unleashing the policy potential of development zones in China. Full article

Goosegrass (Eleusine indica) is a major weed in Brazilian soybean, corn, and cotton systems, infesting over 60% of grain-producing areas and potentially reducing yields by more than 50%. Its competitiveness is due to its rapid emergence, fast tillering, C4 metabolism, and adaptability to various environmental conditions. A critical challenge relates to its widespread resistance to multiple herbicide modes of action, notably glyphosate and acetyl-CoA carboxylate (ACCase) inhibitors. Resistance mechanisms include 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) target-site mutations, gene amplification, reduced translocation, glyphosate detoxification, and mainly ACCase target-site mutations. This literature review summarizes the current knowledge on herbicide resistance in goosegrass and its management in Brazil, with an emphasis on integrating chemical and non-chemical strategies. Mechanical and physical controls are effective in early or local infestations but must be combined with chemical methods for lasting control. Herbicides applied post-emergence of weeds, especially systemic ACCase inhibitors and glyphosate, remain important tools, although widespread resistance limits their effectiveness. Sequential applications and mixtures with contact herbicides such as glufosinate and protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitors can improve control. Pre-emergence herbicides are effective when used before or immediately after planting, with adequate soil moisture being essential for their activation and effectiveness. Given the complexity of resistance mechanisms, chemical control alone is not enough. Integrated weed management programs, combining diverse herbicides, sequential treatments, and local resistance monitoring, are essential for sustainable goosegrass management. Full article

Tunneling modes in all-dielectric one-dimensional photonic crystals can be utilized for multi-channel filtering. However, these tunneling modes generally blue shift upon increasing the incident angle. When hyperbolic metamaterials are introduced into one-dimensional photonic crystals, the competition between the propagation phase shifts in the dielectric materials and hyperbolic metamaterials can result in different angle dependencies, including blue shift, abnormal zero shift, and abnormal red shift. When the reduction in the propagation phase in the dielectric layer exceeds the increment in the propagation phase in the hyperbolic metamaterial, the tunneling modes are blue-shifted; conversely, when the phase increment in the hyperbolic metamaterial exceeds the phase reduction in the dielectric layer, the tunneling modes are abnormally red-shifted. When the phase changes in the two materials are the same, the tunneling modes are angle independent. In this study, we investigated the multiple filtering effects of one-dimensional photonic structures composed of hyperbolic metamaterials. These composed structures exhibited multiple tunneling modes based on one-, two-, or three-angle dependencies and can be applied in novel optical devices with different angle-dependence requirements. It is well known that there is a significant conflict of interest between high-speed rail (HSR) operators and logistics companies. This study proposes an HSR freight pricing strategy based on a multi-objective optimization framework and a freight mode splitting model based on the Logit model. A utility function was constructed to quantify the comprehensive utility of different modes of transportation by integrating five key influencing factors: economy, speed, convenience, stability, and environmental sustainability. A bi-objective optimization model was developed to balance the cost of the logistics with the benefits of high-speed rail operators to achieve a win–win situation. The model is solved by the TOPSIS method, and its effectiveness is verified by the freight case of the Zhengzhou–Chongqing high-speed railway in China. The results of this study showed that (1) HSR has advantages in medium-distance freight transportation; (2) increasing government subsidies can help improve the market competitiveness of high-speed rail in freight transportation. This research provides theoretical foundations and methodological support for optimizing HSR freight pricing mechanisms and improving multimodal transport efficiency. Full article

Grain boundary weakening in high-temperature environments significantly influences the fatigue crack growth mechanisms of nickel-based superalloys, introducing challenges in accurately predicting fatigue life. In this study, a dislocation-density-based crystal plasticity phase-field (CP–PF) model is developed to simulate the fatigue crack growth behavior of the GH4169 alloy under both room and elevated temperatures. Grain boundaries are explicitly modeled, enabling the competition between transgranular and intergranular cracking to be accurately captured. The grain boundary separation energy and surface energy, calculated via molecular dynamics simulations, are employed as failure criteria for grain boundary and intragranular material points, respectively. The simulation results reveal that under oxygen-free conditions, fatigue crack propagation at both room and high temperatures is governed by sustained shear slip, with crack advancement hindered by grains exhibiting low Schmid factors. When grain boundary oxidation is introduced, increasing oxidation levels progressively degrade grain boundary strength and reduce overall fatigue resistance. Specifically, at room temperature, oxidation shortens the duration of crack arrest near grain boundaries. At elevated service temperatures, intensified grain boundary degradation facilitates a transition in crack growth mode from transgranular to intergranular, thereby accelerating crack propagation and exacerbating fatigue damage. The ergogenic effects of music have been well described across various modes of exercise with widespread use across competitive athletes and recreational exercisers alike. Underlying the acute beneficial effects of music during exercise are profound physiological and psychological changes which involve an array of different organ systems, including but not limited to cardiovascular, endocrine, skeletal muscle, and nervous systems. While the use of music to enhance physical performance and improve associated mechanisms has been largely optimized in healthy individuals, the investigations of the translation to individuals with neurological conditions are still ongoing. Recently, it has been established that the personalization of music interventions greatly influences performance-enhancing benefits and aids in physical performance optimization in healthy individuals. Self-selected music (SSM) has been documented to impart ergogenic advantages over pre-determined or non-preferred music, including improved cardiorespiratory endurance, power development, and velocity of movement which are characterized by adaptative physiological and psychological changes. Evidence of the benefits of SSM has progressed to the degree to which the overlap of possible benefits between healthy and clinical populations is becoming more apparent. This aim of this theoretical review is to discuss how personalized music influences psychophysiological determinants of exercise ability in healthy individuals and consider how these findings may be applicable to neurological conditions to enhance exercise capacity. The current knowledge on the role of SSM in augmenting physiological and psychological responses to exercise in healthy individuals is presented along with how these mechanisms might be leveraged to overcome exercise limitations in neurological conditions. Overall, SSM appears to have theoretical support to be a promising therapeutic approach to improving exercise ability in neurological conditions through similar ergogenic mechanisms documented in healthy individuals, but further investigation is warranted. Flipping the Target: Evaluating Natural LDHA Inhibitors for Selective LDHB Modulation

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) catalyzes the reversible interconversion of pyruvate and lactate, coupled with the redox cycling of NADH and NAD+. While LDHA has been extensively studied as a therapeutic target, particularly in cancer, due to its role in the Warburg effect, LDHB remains underexplored, despite its involvement in the metabolic reprogramming of specific cancer types, including breast and lung cancers. Most known LDH inhibitors are designed against the LDHA isoform and act competitively at the active site. In contrast, LDHB exhibits distinct kinetic properties, substrate preferences, and structural features, warranting isoform-specific screening strategies. In this study, 115 natural compounds previously reported as LDHA inhibitors were systematically evaluated for LDHB inhibition using an integrated in silico and in vitro approach. Virtual screening identified 16 lead phytochemicals, among which luteolin and quercetin exhibited uncompetitive inhibition of LDHB, as demonstrated by enzyme kinetic assays. These findings were strongly supported by molecular docking analyses, which revealed that both compounds bind at an allosteric site located at the dimer interface, closely resembling the binding mode of the established LDHB uncompetitive inhibitor AXKO-0046. In contrast, comparative docking against LDHA confirmed their active-site binding and competitive inhibition, underscoring their isoform-specific behavior. Our findings highlight the necessity of assay conditions tailored to LDHB’s physiological role and demonstrate the application of a previously validated colorimetric assay for high-throughput screening. This work lays the foundation for the rational design of selective LDHB inhibitors from natural product libraries. Full article
