This study systematically reviews and re-evaluates the international competitiveness and economic sustainability of China’s solar photovoltaic (PV) industry. Based on the PRISMA protocol, it integrates both qualitative and quantitative evidence from 70 core English-language publications published between 2000 and 2025. An analytical framework is developed that combines keyword co-occurrence analysis, thematic clustering, and mechanism pathway mapping. The study identifies three key thematic domains: policy governance mechanisms, economic feasibility and cost structures, and the coupling between technological innovation and environmental performance. The findings reveal a transition in China’s PV development pathway—from early policy-driven expansion to the co-evolution of institutional adaptation and market mechanisms—highlighting the dynamic tension among multi-level variables. Four institutional dimensions and associated variable chains are proposed, uncovering long-term contradictions such as the reliance on subsidies versus structural efficiency and the strategic mismatch between national industrial strategies and global decarbonization goals. The study suggests that future research should prioritize system modeling, feedback mechanism identification, and the theoretical expansion of multi-level governance frameworks. In doing so, this review provides a reusable variable classification framework for analyzing green industrial transformation and offers policy insights for emerging economies engaged in global climate governance. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into marketing and sales has significantly reshaped the European digital economy, altering how companies engage with consumers and create online value. This research examines the impact of AI adoption on e-commerce performance across the 27 EU member states. Drawing on Eurostat data, it applies advanced statistical methods, including factor analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM), and cluster analysis, to examine the links among AI-powered business practices, digital engagement, and e-commerce outcomes. The results reveal a strong positive association between AI use in marketing and e-commerce sales, underscoring the mediating role of consumer digital behavior. Regional disparities are also evident: Northern and Western European economies lead in AI adoption and digital maturity, while Southern and Eastern nations show emerging potential for rapid growth. Overall, the study emphasizes that AI-driven marketing boosts e-commerce growth and digital competitiveness, aligning with the European Union’s broader goals of fostering innovation and technological integration. The global environmental challenges of solid waste accumulation and aquatic eutrophication demand innovative and sustainable strategies. This study introduces a circular “waste-treats-waste” approach by converting dolomite-rich phosphate tailings (PT), a widespread industrial by-product, into a high-value adsorbent for phosphorus (P) removal. Thermal modification at 950 °C for 1 h dramatically enhanced the adsorption capacity by approximately 45 times, from 2.52 mg/g (raw PT) to 112.41 mg/g. This performance is highly competitive with, and often superior to, many engineered adsorbents. The calcination process was pivotal, decomposing carbonates into highly active CaO and MgO while developing a porous structure. Using a multi-technique characterization approach (X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), TESCAN VEGA3 tungsten filament scanning electron microscope (SEM), the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method (BET)), the key immobilization mechanism was identified as hydroxyapatite formation, driven by Ca2+/Mg2+-phosphate precipitation and surface complexation. Nonlinear regression analysis revealed that the adsorption kinetics obeyed the pseudo-second-order model, and the equilibrium data were best described by the Freundlich isotherm. This indicates a chemisorption process occurring on a heterogeneous surface, consistent with the complex structure created by thermal modification. Notably, post-adsorption pore structure expansion suggested synergistic pore-filling and surface reorganization. This work not only demonstrates a circular economy paradigm for repurposing industrial solid waste on a global scale but also offers a cost-effective and high-performance pathway for controlling phosphorus pollution in aquatic systems, contributing directly to resource efficiency and sustainable environmental remediation. This study investigates whether national innovation systems contribute to sustainable well-being in emerging EU Member States by examining the long-run relationship between innovation performance and a multidimensional Quality of Life Index (QoLI). Using a balanced panel covering 2013–2024 for ten countries, the analysis integrates the Global Innovation Index, economic development dynamics, and demographic pressure to assess whether innovation-led progress translates into broad societal benefits. Panel cointegration tests confirm a stable long-run equilibrium among variables, while FMOLS estimation reveals three key results: (i) While the bivariate Pearson correlation indicates a positive association between innovation capacity and quality of life, the multivariate FMOLS estimation reveals a statistically significant negative long-run effect of innovation performance on QoLI, once economic development and demographic pressures are jointly controlled for. (ii) Economic development contributes positively to sustainable well-being, reinforcing the role of income-driven improvements in living conditions, and (iii) population size exerts a strong negative effect, reflecting demographic stress and unequal access to essential services. The findings indicate an innovation–well-being gap in which technological progress advances faster than the institutional and social mechanisms needed to ensure equitable diffusion. These results underscore the need to reorient innovation strategies toward inclusive growth, social accessibility, and environmental resilience so that innovation systems can effectively support sustainable well-being in emerging European economies. In the rapidly evolving digital economy, the expansion of business-to-business e-commerce ecosystems has compelled traditional industries to integrate into digital supply chains to achieve sustainable development. Industrial e-commerce is no longer limited to online transactions but extends to the digital transformation of backend operations. Drawing upon the perspective of the digital business ecosystem, this study investigates how digital supply chain integration, manifested through digital transformation, impacts energy efficiency. By utilizing a panel fixed effects model and advanced text mining techniques on a dataset of 721 listed firms in the resource-intensive sectors of China spanning from 2011 to 2023, this research constructs a novel index to quantify corporate digital maturity based on semantic analysis. The empirical results demonstrate that digital transformation significantly enhances energy efficiency by facilitating optimized resource allocation and data-driven decision making required by modern digital markets. Mechanism analysis reveals that green innovation functions as a pivotal mediator that bridges the gap between digital investments and environmental performance. Furthermore, this relationship is found to be contingent upon corporate social responsibility strategies, ownership structures, and the scale of the firm. This study contributes to the electronic commerce literature by elucidating how traditional manufacturers can leverage digital technologies and green innovation to navigate the twin transition of digitalization and sustainability, offering theoretical implications for platform governance in industrial sectors. The global countryside constitutes a complex social–ecological system undergoing profound transformation. Understanding how such systems navigate transitions and achieve resilient, sustainable outcomes requires examining the interactions and adaptive behaviors of multiple actors. This study investigates the restructuring of rural China through a complex adaptive systems lens, focusing on the county of Lin’an in Zhejiang Province. We employ a middle-range theory and process-tracing approach to analyze the co-evolutionary pathways shaped by the interactions among three key agents: local governments, enterprises, and village communities. Our findings reveal distinct yet interdependent behavioral logics—local governments and enterprises primarily exhibit instrumental rationality, driven by political performance and profit maximization, respectively, while villages demonstrate value-rational behavior anchored in communal well-being and territorial identity. Crucially, this study identifies the emergence of a vital integrative mechanism, the “village operator” model, underpinned by the collective economy. This institutional innovation facilitates the synergistic linkage of interests and the integration of endogenous and exogenous resources, thereby mitigating conflicts and alienation. We argue that this multi-agent collaboration drives a synergistic restructuring of spatial, economic, and social subsystems. The case demonstrates that sustainable rural revitalization hinges not on the dominance of a single logic, but on the emergence of adaptive governance structures that effectively coordinate diverse actor logics. This process fosters systemic resilience, enabling the rural system to adapt to external pressures and internal changes. The Lin’an experience offers a transferable framework for understanding how coordinated multi-agent interactions can guide complex social–ecological systems toward sustainable transitions. The growing concentration of innovation-driven economic activity in core metropolitan areas threatens the sustainable development of peripheral regions. Conventional aid programs are giving way to place-based strategies that harness endogenous regional resources. Yet most computable general-equilibrium (CGE) models—the standard tools for policy appraisal—operate at the national scale and generally treat regions as passive recipients. This study adopts the regional system (RS) approach and contributes a step towards its practical implementation with the introduction of a Regional Economic Development (RED) model—a CGE framework that embeds the region as an explicit behavioral block inside a national system. The model comprises four interlinked modules and makes a key distinction, often overlooked in the RS literature, between a region’s domestic product (output generated within the territory) and its regional product (income earned by resident labor and capital, irrespective of where those factors are employed). This distinction captures income leakages and interregional spill-overs—factors that are critical for peripheral economies. Scenario analysis couples exogenous policy levers—tax incentives, infrastructure upgrades, human-capital investment—with endogenous outcomes such as employment, income, and structural change. By disentangling internal production capacity from external income opportunities, the RED model lets policymakers compare strategies that prioritize local output with those that maximize household welfare. Iterative simulations reveal feasible development targets, the policy mixes required to achieve them, and the structural implications of each trajectory. Full article

In the context of the era where the maritime power strategy converges with the wave of the digital economy, the digital economy provides a critical transformational opportunity for marine fisheries to break through the traditional extensive model and achieve high-quality development. Based on panel data from 41 coastal cities in China from 2003 to 2022, this study empirically examines the enabling effect of the digital economy on marine fisheries from the perspective of total factor productivity. The findings are as follows: First, the development of the digital economy promotes the improvement of total factor productivity in marine fisheries, but this is primarily achieved through “innovation-driven” expansion of the production frontier, while its potential in “efficiency catch-up” has not yet been fully realized. Second, the enabling effect exhibits distinct spatial heterogeneity, with its positive impact concentrated in cities in the South China Sea region, where industrial foundations and policy environments are more aligned. Third, the influence of the digital economy demonstrates nonlinear threshold characteristics; when technology promotion and industrial collaboration surpass specific thresholds, the enabling effect significantly strengthens, but as innovation capability improves, its marginal contribution shows a diminishing trend. Accordingly, it is recommended to deepen the application of digital technologies in core processes, transitioning from “isolated applications” to “systematic integration.” Simultaneously, tailored regional development strategies should be formulated to align with the resource endowments and development stages of each maritime region. On this basis, efforts should be made to improve technology promotion and industrial support systems, construct a collaborative and efficient digital fishery ecosystem, and facilitate the sustainable transition of marine fisheries from factor-driven to innovation-driven growth. Based on survey data from 320 Azerbaijani enterprises operating across the organic product value chain—including producers, sellers, and key supporting firms such as logistics, financial, and ICT service providers—this study investigates how digital platform capability influences firms’ innovation and performance outcomes and their perceived high-quality economic development within an emerging digital economy context. Four constructs—Digital Platform Capability, Enterprise Digital Transformation, Innovation and Performance Outcomes, and Perceived High-Quality Economic Development—are measured using multi-item Likert scales. Confirmatory factor analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) are employed to test the proposed relationships. The results show that Digital Platform Capability exerts a strong positive effect on Innovation and Performance Outcomes (β = 0.574) and on Perceived High-Quality Economic Development (β = 0.512). In addition, Innovation and Performance Outcomes have a direct positive impact on Perceived High-Quality Economic Development (β = 0.313). Mediation analysis further indicates that Enterprise Digital Transformation partially mediates this relationship, transmitting approximately 52% of the total effect of Innovation and Performance Outcomes on Perceived High-Quality Economic Development. These findings underscore digital transformation as a key structural mechanism through which firm-level innovation and performance contribute to broader perceptions of high-quality economic development. The study provides novel empirical evidence from Azerbaijan and offers practical implications for digital policy design and enterprise strategies aimed at promoting innovation-driven, inclusive, and sustainable growth. Women play a key role in Greek olive cultivation, a sector at the heart of local economies currently facing increasing pressures from climate change. This study explores gender roles, responsibilities, and access to resources shaping the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices. Through in-depth interviews with female farmers on the island of Crete, the results show that women face limited access to training and financial services as well as gender-based discrimination and the hidden caregiving and house working tasks. However, they manifest a strong openness towards sustainable practices, driven by environmental values, even among those lacking decision-making authority. Despite these challenges, women show a positive attitude toward learning and innovation, calling for more institutional support and training opportunities. This study sheds light on the need for recognition of women’s roles in agriculture, particularly in the context of climate adaptation, and offers practical recommendations to improve gender roles within the olive sector. Driven by the urgent need for industrial transformation and emerging technologies, the construction engineering market is rapidly evolving toward intelligent building systems. This study employs latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) methodology to analyze 474 blockchain-related research abstracts from Web of Science and Scopus databases, identifying eight key research topics: (1) industry adoption and implementation challenges; (2) smart contracts and payment mechanisms; (3) emerging technologies and digital transformation; (4) construction supply chain integration and optimization; (5) building modeling and technology integration; (6) modular integrated construction (MIC) applications; (7) project data and security management; and (8) construction industry sustainability and circular economy (CE). Using the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model, the study forecasts trends for the top three research topics over the next 36 months. The results indicate strong positive growth trajectories for industry adoption and implementation challenges (Topic 1) and project data and security management (Topic 7), while emerging technologies and digital transformation (Topic 3) demonstrate sustained growth. This study offers a thorough examination of the present landscape and emerging research trends of blockchain in construction, and establishes an overall framework to comprehensively summarize its research and application in the construction industry. The results provide actionable insights for both practitioners and researchers, facilitating a deeper understanding of blockchain’s evolution and implementation prospects, and supporting the advancement of innovation within the industry. Although communication quality is widely recognized as a catalyst for workplace innovation, existing research seldom integrates communication quality, trust in leadership, and organizational commitment within a single explanatory framework, particularly in team-based enterprises operating in emerging economies. This study examines how communication quality fosters employee innovation through the sequential mediating roles of trust in leadership and organizational commitment, emphasizing its contribution to sustainable enterprise performance. Rooted in Social Exchange Theory (SET), the study illustrates how transparent, reciprocal, and supportive communication enhances relational trust, strengthens employees’ emotional attachment to their organizations, and creates a climate conducive to creativity and collaborative problem-solving. A quantitative design was employed using data from employees engaged in innovation-driven projects within medium- and large-sized software firms in Turkey’s ICT sector. A total of 339 valid responses were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings demonstrate that communication quality directly promotes employee innovation and indirectly strengthens innovation through trust in leadership and organizational commitment as sequential mediators. Additionally, organizational commitment amplifies the influence of communication quality on innovation, indicating that committed employees more effectively translate constructive communication into innovative behaviors. These results underscore the strategic importance of communicative clarity, relational leadership, and commitment-building practices in shaping resilient, innovation-oriented teams. The study advances SET by identifying trust and commitment as key relational mechanisms through which communication quality drives innovation, offering theoretical enrichment and practical guidance for sustainable human resource management and team-based organizational development. Food loss and waste (FLW) is a chronic problem across food systems worldwide, with meat being one of the most resource-intensive and perishable categories. The perishable character of meat, combined with complex cold chain requirements and consumer behavior, makes the sector particularly sensitive to inefficiencies and loss across all stages from production to consumption. This review synthesizes the latest advancements in new preservation technologies and supply chain efficiency strategies to minimize meat wastage and also outlines current challenges and future directions. New preservation technologies, such as high-pressure processing, cold plasma, pulsed electric fields, and modified atmosphere packaging, have substantial potential to extend shelf life while preserving nutritional and sensory quality. Active and intelligent packaging, bio-preservatives, and nanomaterials act as complementary solutions to enhance safety and quality control. At the same time, blockchain, IoT sensors, AI, and predictive analytics-driven digitalization of the supply chain are opening new opportunities in traceability, demand forecasting, and cold chain management. Nevertheless, regulatory uncertainty, high capital investment requirements, heterogeneity among meat types, and consumer hesitancy towards novel technologies remain significant barriers. Furthermore, the scalability of advanced solutions is limited in emerging nations due to digital inequalities. Convergent approaches that combine technical innovation with policy harmonization, stakeholder capacity building, and consumer education are essential to address these challenges. System-level strategies based on circular economy principles can further reduce meat loss and waste, while enabling by-product valorization and improving climate resilience. By integrating preservation innovations and digital tools within the framework of UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, the meat sector can make meaningful progress towards sustainable food systems, improved food safety, and enhanced environmental outcomes. Amid the dual-driven trends of Industry 5.0 and smart manufacturing integration, as well as the global imperative for manufacturing sustainability to address resource constraints, carbon neutrality goals, and circular economy demands, human–robot collaborative (HRC) manufacturing has emerged as a core direction for reshaping manufacturing production modes while aligning with sustainable development principles. This paper comprehensively reviews HRC manufacturing systems, summarizing their technical framework, practical applications, and development trends with a focus on the synergistic realization of operational efficiency and sustainability. Addressing the rigidity of traditional automated lines, inefficiency of manual production, and the unsustainable drawbacks of high energy consumption and resource waste in conventional manufacturing, HRC integrates humans’ flexible decision-making and environmental adaptability with robots’ high-precision and continuous operation, not only improving production efficiency, quality, and safety but also optimizing resource allocation, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing production waste to bolster manufacturing sustainability. Its core technologies include task allocation, multimodal perception, augmented interaction (AR/VR/MR), digital twin-driven integration, adaptive motion control, and real-time decision-making, all of which can be tailored to support sustainable production scenarios such as energy-efficient process scheduling and circular material utilization. These technologies have been applied in automotive, aeronautical, astronautical, and shipping industries, boosting high-end equipment manufacturing innovation while advancing the sector’s sustainability performance. Finally, challenges and future directions of HRC are discussed, emphasizing its pivotal role in driving manufacturing toward a balanced development of efficiency, intelligence, flexibility, and sustainability. Configuration Paths of Enterprise Digital Innovation Driven by Digital Technology Affordance: A Dynamic QCA Analysis Based on the TOE Framework

Amid the expansive evolution of the digital economy and the emergence of enhanced productivity paradigms, exploring the ways in which digital technology affordance propels corporate digital innovation via multifaceted cooperative routes is essential for reconfiguring industrial ecosystems, securing digital market advantages, and promoting superior advancement. This investigation employs the TOE model, merging fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) with regression analysis. Using data from 2206 listed manufacturing companies from the A-share exchanges (2010–2023), it identifies multiple antecedent configuration pathways of digital technology affordance and examines their differential impacts on enterprise digital innovation. Key findings include the following: (1) no solitary factor serves as an obligatory prerequisite for high-quality digital technology affordance. (2) Four configuration pathways were identified: technology-organization-environment tripartite-propelled, technology-organization collaborative-propelled, technology-environment collaborative-propelled, and organization-environment collaborative-propelled variants. (3) The influence of digital technology affordance on digital innovation shows conditional dependence. Under the ternary-driven “technology-organization-environment” or synergy-driven “technology-organization” configurations, and absent conflicting enterprise goals, digital technology affordance promotes digital product innovation. Supported by collaborative configurations of technological investment, digital infrastructure, highly educated talent, institutional measures, and public service efficiency, it fosters digital process innovation. However, isolated technological investment, employees’ educational attainment, and institutional measures inhibit business model innovation. Other configurations lack significant impacts on digital business model innovation. This study elucidates the generation mechanism of digital technology affordance using configuration theory, offering empirical insights for managers to enhance digital innovation and drive high-quality economic development. The study enhances the theoretical depth by exploring technological foundations of digital technologies and addressing generalizability through framework adaptations for global contexts. Full article
