Chlamydomonas reinhardtii serves as a sustainable and high-quality protein source. In this study, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii powder (CRP) was used to replace wheat flour at proportions of 0% (C0), 2.5% (C2.5), 5% (C5), 7.5% (C7.5), and 10% (C10) for the production of soda crackers and cookies. The study compared the pasting and farinographic properties of wheat flour with that of CRP and found that C2.5 demonstrated optimal performance in terms of stretching energy and stretching ratio. Regarding the expansion ratios of soda crackers and cookies, C2.5 achieved the highest value compared to C5, C7.5, C10, and had no significant difference compared to C0. The incorporation of CRP resulted in an increase in the L* value and whiteness index (WI), a reduction in the chromaticity value (C*), and a noticeable shift towards a greener hue in the overall color. This study offers a thorough exploration and establishes a robust theoretical foundation for baked foods enriched with CRP. Full article

Understanding the genetic regulatory mechanisms of fat accumulation is crucial for improving beef quality. Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) is renowned for its high intramuscular fat (marbling), yet the genetic regulation of adipose gene expression remains insufficiently understood. In this study, we performed expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis using RNA-Seq data and genotype data from backfat tissue of 75 Hanwoo steers to identify regulatory variants associated with adipose deposition. A total of 25,042 significant cis-eQTL associations (FDR < 0.05) were identified, and 5362 unique top cis-eQTL pairs were retained after gene-wise filtering. Key cis-regulated genes included AGBL1, CACNG1, MYO18B, and DUSP29, which are involved in cytoskeletal organization, muscle development and calcium signaling. Three major cis-regulatory hotspots were located on BTA15 (BTA15:50354741) and BTA21 (BTA21:21526143, and BTA21:21541921). Permutation-based analysis (100,000 iterations) was conducted to control false positives, identifying 12 statistically significant trans-eQTL hotspots (FDR q < 0.05), of which SNP 6:60512276 and SNP 21:17035557 exhibited extensive trans-regulatory activity influencing 429 and 161 genes, respectively. In particular, SNP 21:17035557 acted as a shared cis- and trans-regulatory hub, indicating hierarchical control of adipose gene networks. Functional enrichment analyses revealed significant involvement of cytoskeleton- and calcium-dependent pathways, highlighting the interplay between structural remodeling and metabolic regulation in adipose tissue. These findings provide a comprehensive, system-level view of adipose gene regulation in Hanwoo cattle and highlight candidate molecular targets for genome-assisted and precision breeding. Moreover, this study offers quantitative genomic resources that can support the development of prediction models and decision-support systems for improving carcass traits in Hanwoo breeding programs. This study examines risk transmission between the United States and China using integrated economic policy uncertainty (EPU) and geopolitical risk (GPR) indices. We employ a dual methodology that combines Vector Autoregressive (VAR) and Granger causality in quantiles tests to analyze interactions during systemic leadership transitions, a dimension that is currently under-explored. Our dataset covers the period from June 2000 to June 2023. Results indicate that China is narrowing the economic influence gap and strengthening its role as a regional anchor. The U.S., however, maintains predominant global leadership. This dynamic reframes bilateral tensions as a “status dilemma” rather than a security conflict. Crucially, we identify asymmetric spillover effects: the U.S. uncertainty shocks spread globally, while China’s volatility remains regional. Our findings contribute to the understanding of financial stability by demonstrating that leadership asymmetries are critical determinants, providing valuable insights for designing systemic risk monitoring tools and contagion mitigation policies during periods of heightened uncertainty. The digital economy creates new opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia to enhance their competitiveness through the adoption of financial technology. This study examines how digital financial inclusion (DFI) mediates the effects of digital financial literacy (DFL) and government support (GS) on MSME performance. This mediating relationship remains underexplored in developing countries, offering new insights into how it drives business advancement. A quantitative approach was applied using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) based on survey data from 260 culinary MSME owners. The results indicate that knowledge-based resources and institutional support positively influence performance through DFI. DFI drives improvement by expanding market reach, increasing operational efficiency, facilitating transactions, optimizing the value of financial activities, and broadening access to financing. These findings underline the importance of policies that promote inclusive digital ecosystems and strengthen digital capability. Future research approaches should emphasize the integration of behavioral factors, institutional support, and business performance within the evolving MSME ecosystem and can be further developed through longitudinal or cross-sectoral studies to understand the sustainable dynamics of digital transformation. Cement-stabilized macadam often shows salt expansion deformation under the action of a sulfate attack, and its pore structure determines its ability to accommodate this deformation. In this paper, the influence of the pore structure of cement-stabilized macadam on its macroscopic deformation is analyzed using a single-grain salt expansion deformation test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and computerized tomography (CT) scanning. The results show that ettringite and sodium sulfate decahydrate crystals are key factors in salt expansion deformation. In addition, we find that when the sulfate content increases from 0% to 5%, the porosity of the mixture decreases by 1.5%, the proportion of primary pores increases by 12.1%, and the linear expansion rate increases by 0.05%. Finally, a salt expansion deformation prediction model for cement-stabilized macadam is proposed, which takes the porosity of the mixture, the proportion of graded pores, and the deformation influence factor as parameters, and the error is found to be less than 10%. The One Health approach offers an integrative framework to understand infectious threats, environmental factors, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and how their interactions affect the human–animal–environment interface. This review examines the epidemiology, transmission pathways, and mechanisms of microorganisms of public health importance (bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses). It highlights the interconnectedness of ecosystems, where the environment plays a central role in the dissemination of pathogens, driven by climate change, globalization, agricultural intensification, and habitat degradation. AMR is a major concern, driven by the indiscriminate use of pharmaceuticals in human, veterinary, and agricultural settings, horizontal gene transfer through mobile genetic elements, and microbial evolution. The study of different pathogens is of great importance due to their high prevalence in different ecosystems, their virulence, clinical interest, and mortality rates produced. Some of them are ESKAPE bacteria, Candida auris, Plasmodium falciparum, and emerging viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, which present complex transmission dynamics influenced by ecological and health determinants. The review also addresses the effects of climate change on the persistence and geographic spread of pathogens. Successful implementation of the One Health program requires intersectoral policies, integrated surveillance systems, prudent use of antimicrobials and investment in translational science. Coordinating these strategies is essential to limit the spread of pathogens, protect biodiversity, and save global health in the face of the growing threat of infectious diseases. Full article

This work presents a generalization and analysis of the physical properties of rocks and ores from the Zhezkazgan ore district. Studies were carried out to identify general patterns in variations in the magnetic, density, velocity, and electrical parameters of the rocks that make up the geological section of the region. Based on the physical parameter measurements of the rock samples and drill cores collected in large quantities evenly throughout the region, a spatial analysis and quantitative assessment were conducted for the magnetic susceptibility, density, specific electrical resistivity, polarizability, and seismic velocity of the rocks. These properties were systematized at the level of formations, individual suites, and lithological heterogeneities. Correlations between the physical properties of the rocks, their composition, and the conditions of their formation were established. This study demonstrated the potential of using petrophysical characteristics in tectonic studies, geological mapping, and the identification of the exploration and ore-controlling factors in copper mineralization. It was found that the deposits of the productive horizons of the Zhezkazgan and Taskuduk suites are characterized by consistent physical parameters across the entire area, due to their relative homogeneity in lithological, structural–textural, and other features. The physical parameters of the rocks are influenced by several factors associated with mineralization processes, including changes in the total porosity, structure, and texture of the host rocks, alteration of the original mineral composition of the ores, fragmentation, fracturing, fissuring, and others. The obtained results significantly improve the reliability of geologically interpreting geophysical anomalies, especially in areas covered by loose sediments and where productive horizons are deeply buried. The detailed petrophysical analysis of the region has made it possible to provide recommendations for selecting an optimal set of geophysical methods for further successful work at the prospecting-evaluation and exploration stages in the Zhezkazgan ore district. This study investigates the influence of variable electrode positions on image reconstruction in capacitively coupled electrical impedance tomography (CC-EIT) of the human thorax. Images were reconstructed by an adversarial neural network trained on a synthetic dataset generated using a tomographic model that included a wearable elastic band with 32 electrodes attached. Dataset generation was conducted using a previously developed numerical phantom of the thorax, combined with a newly developed algorithm for random selection of electrode positions based on physical limitations resulting from the elasticity of the band and possible position inaccuracies while putting the band on the patient’s chest. The thorax phantom included the heart, lungs, aorta, and spine. Four training and four testing datasets were generated using four different levels of electrode displacement. Reconstruction was conducted using four versions of neural networks trained on the datasets, with random ellipses included and noise added to achieve an SNR of 30 dB. The quality was assessed using pixel-to-pixel metrics such as the root-mean-square error, structural similarity index, 2D correlation coefficient, and peak signal-to-noise ratio. The results showed a strong negative influence of electrode displacement on reconstruction quality when no samples with displaced electrodes were present in the training dataset. Training the network on the dataset containing samples with electrode displacement allowed us to significantly improve the quality of the reconstructed images. Introducing samples with misplaced electrodes increased neural network robustness to electrode displacement while testing. Full article

Immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography remains an indispensable core technology in advanced integrated circuit manufacturing, particularly when combined with multiple patterning techniques to achieve sub-10 nm feature patterning. However, at advanced technology nodes, dynamic instabilities of DUV light sources—including spectral characteristics (bandwidth fluctuations, and center wavelength drift), coherence variations, and pulse-to-pulse energy instability—can adversely affect imaging contrast, normalized image log-slope (NILS), and critical dimension (CD) uniformity. To quantitatively assess the impact of laser parameter fluctuations on NILS and CD, this work establishes systematic physical models for imaging perturbations caused by multi-parameter laser output instabilities under immersion DUV lithography. Through simulations, we evaluate the influence of laser parameter variations on the imaging fidelity of representative line/space (L/S) and tip-to-line (T2L) structures, thereby validating the proposed perturbation model. Research demonstrates that the spectral attributes (bandwidth fluctuation and center wavelength drift), coherence variations, and pulse energy instability collectively induce non-uniform electric field intensity distribution within photoresist, degrading NILS, and amplifying CD variation, which ultimately compromise pattern fidelity and chip yield. Notably, at advanced nodes, pulse energy fluctuation exerts a significantly greater influence on imaging errors compared to bandwidth and wavelength variations. To satisfy the 10% process window requirement for 45 nm linewidths, pulse energy fluctuations should be rigorously confined within 1%. This research provides theoretical foundations and practical insights for the design of dynamic stability control of light source and process optimization of next-generation DUV light sources. This article uses a water model with a ratio of 1:5.75 to study the influence of factors such as the position and flow rate of top and bottom composite argon blowing on the mixing time of molten steel in a 300t ladle at a certain factory. Using engine oil to simulate steel slag, the mass transfer velocity of molten steel under different bottom and top blowing positions and flow rates of the ladle was compared. At the same time, numerical simulation was used to analyze the changes in the flow field of molten steel under different ladle blowing modes. The optimal ladle composite bottom argon process was proposed and industrial experiments were conducted on site. The research results show that the stirring effect of top–bottom composite argon blowing in the ladle is significantly better than that of the pure bottom blowing mode. When the top blowing gun is located 300 mm at the bottom of the ladle, the mixing time of the molten steel is shortest and the stirring efficiency is highest. The higher the insertion depth of the top blowing gun, the faster the flow rate of the molten steel, and the smaller the proportion of dead zones. Top and bottom blowing can improve the mass transfer rate between steel slag and promote the formation of refined slag. Through industrial experiments, it was found that the S content in the molten steel decreased by approximately 22.3% and the total oxygen content decreased by 25% before and after 10 min of composite argon blowing at the top and bottom of the ladle. Food and nutrition services are critical to the health of long-term care home (LTCH) residents, yet little is known about how regulatory inspections detect non-compliance with Food, Nutrition, and Hydration (FNH) standards. We conducted a cross-sectional study of administrative inspection data from all licensed LTCHs in Ontario, Canada. One inspection report was randomly selected per LTCH, yielding a sample of 623 LTCHs. The data were collected for the period spanning 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024. The primary exposure was use of the FNH inspection protocol, and the outcome was FNH non-compliance, defined as at least one Written Notification or Compliance Order. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests for categorical variables and independent samples t-tests (including Welch’s t-tests where appropriate) for continuous variables, with effect sizes (Φ, Cramer’s V, Cohen’s d) reported to complement p-values. This study did not require research ethics review under Western University policy, consistent with Canada’s Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2, Article 2.2) regarding use of publicly available data. FNH non-compliance was identified in 12.2% (n = 76) of all LTCHs, and in 43.7% of those using the FNH protocol. Use of the FNH protocol was associated with a higher likelihood of detecting FNH non-compliance compared with other inspection protocols (p < 0.001, Φ = 0.55). LTCH ownership and inspection type were also associated with detection patterns. This exploratory study provides the first province-wide analysis of FNH non-compliance in Ontario LTCHs. Findings suggest that inspection protocols influence detection of FNH issues, underscoring the need for further comparative and qualitative research to understand the organizational factors underlying non-compliance. Introduction: Mpox emerged as a multi-country outbreak in 2022 and disproportionately affected gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Stigma is known to exacerbate health crises by discouraging testing, treatment, and vaccination. This review aimed to explore stigma associated with Mpox among GBMSM from July 2022, when mpox was declared a public health emergency of international concern. Methods: The PICO framework guided this narrative review. A search was conducted across the following databases from inception to June 2025: PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and Web of Science. The literature had to be empirical, peer-reviewed research that focused on mpox-related stigma in GBMSM. Results: Forty-seven studies were included in this review. The following themes were derived: (1) healthcare experiences, (2) media influence, (3) internalised and anticipated stigma, (4) public health messaging, (5) community responses, and (6) psychosocial impact. Healthcare experiences were marked by anticipated discrimination; many GBMSM delayed testing or vaccination for fear of being disclosed or labelled promiscuous. This was especially apparent in contexts where same-sex relationships are criminalised, leading some men to self-medicate or seek clandestine services. Media analyses revealed that social and traditional platforms often amplified blame and homophobia, though community-led counter-messaging helped shift narratives. Internalised and anticipated stigma resulted in shame, concealment of symptoms, avoidance of care, and heightened anxiety. Public health messaging that framed mpox as a behaviour-linked rather than identity-linked risk was more acceptable, and flexible vaccination strategies (e.g., offering less conspicuous injection sites) increased uptake. Stigma contributed to psychosocial distress and may have impeded outbreak control. Conclusions: Mpox-related stigma among GBMSM operates at individual, community, and structural levels, echoing patterns from the HIV era. Effective mitigation requires rights-based, destigmatising communication, culturally competent care, and collaboration. Addressing stigma is vital to controlling future outbreaks and ensuring equitable healthcare access. Full article

The Role of Genetic and Environmental Factors in White Leg Markings: Prevalence and Heritability Analysis in Pura Raza Española Horses

White leg markings in horses are phenotypic traits influenced by genetic and environmental factors. This study analyzed their prevalence, symmetry, and genetic parameters in 38,825 Pura Raza Española (PRE) horses registered in the official studbook. White markings were scored using a binary (affected/unaffected) and a four-level ordinal scale. Most horses (38,341 out of 38,825; 98.8%) had at least one limb without white markings. The prevalence of white markings was higher in the hindlegs (17.9% LH; 14.5% RH) than in the forelegs (5.3% LF; 4.6% RF). Markings were most frequent above the fetlock (≈64%), chestnut horses showed the highest prevalence, whereas black coats showed the lowest. Genetic analyses using Bayesian animal models revealed moderate-to-high heritabilities, ranging from 0.488 for Right hindlegs to 0.574 for Left hindlegs in the multinomial model, which outperformed the dichotomous model (h2 = 0.030–0.515 for all legs and left foreleg, respectively). Additive genetic variance was highest in the left hindleg (σ2u = 7.904). Genetic correlations were high between contralateral homologous limbs (0.991 forelegs; 0.995 hindlegs), confirming strong bilateral genetic control, while diagonal correlations were lower (≈0.886). These findings confirm a substantial genetic component underlying white leg markings in PRE horses and highlight the importance of refined phenotyping and genetic evaluations for breeding strategies, particularly when markings are penalized as in the PRE breeding program. Corn (Zea mays L.) ranks among the most important cereal crops globally, extensively cultivated for food, animal feed, and industrial applications. Its large-scale production generates substantial amounts of agricultural residues such as cobs, husks, stalks, leaves and other, which are often underutilized, leading to environmental concerns. Due to their high carbon content, lignocellulosic structure, and abundant availability, these residues represent a sustainable and low-cost raw material for the synthesis of activated carbon. Corn waste-derived activated carbon has emerged as a promising material for the efficient removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Its high surface area, well-developed porosity, and adjustable surface chemistry, referring to the functional groups on the adsorbent surface that can be modified to enhance affinity toward metal ions, facilitate effective adsorption. This review provides a comprehensive overview of (1) the potential of corn waste biomass as a precursor for activated carbon production, (2) methods of carbonization and activation that influence the textural and chemical properties of the resulting adsorbents, (3) adsorption performance for heavy metal removal under varying experimental parameters such as pH, initial concentration, contact time, and adsorbent dosage, (4) adsorption mechanisms responsible for heavy metal uptake. Reported maximum adsorption capacities vary for different metals, ranging from 2.814–206 mg/g for lead, 0.21–87.72 mg/g for cadmium, 9.6246–175.44 mg/g for chromium, and 0.724–643.92 mg/g for copper. Utilizing corn waste not only provides an eco-friendly approach for managing agricultural residues but also supports the development of efficient adsorbents. Nevertheless, challenges such as scaling up production and evaluating adsorbent performance in real wastewater samples remain and require further investigation. Finally, the review highlights key challenges and knowledge gaps in current research and offers recommendations for future studies aimed at advancing the practical application of corn waste–based activated carbons in water treatment. Background/Objectives: Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) has declined even within Mediterranean regions, while its adoption has become more common in non-Mediterranean contexts. This study compares Germany and Türkiye, two culturally contrasting contexts traditionally classified as non-Mediterranean and Mediterranean, respectively, to examine cross-cultural differences and patterns in MedDiet adherence and related lifestyle behaviors. Specifically, it aims to compare adherence to the Mediterranean lifestyle (MedLife), physical activity, and social participation, and to analyze their associations within each country. Methods: Using data from the MEDIET4ALL survey, 1184 valid responses (609 from Germany and 575 from Türkiye) were analyzed for dietary behaviors, perceived barriers to MedDiet adherence, physical activity, and social engagement, with adherence assessed via the MEDLIFE index. Results: The majority of respondents were healthy (79%), employed (67%), young adults (56%), of normal weight (51%), living in urban environments (72%), and showed a gender balance (52.5% female). Most were classified as medium MedDiet adherent in both Germany (45%) and Türkiye (56%), with no significant difference in total MedLife scores. However, block- and item-level analyses revealed that Turkish participants showed higher adherence to Mediterranean food consumption (p < 0.001), particularly in limiting processed meat and consuming legumes, dairy, nuts/olives, and olive oil. In contrast, German participants adhered more closely to recommendations for red meat and cereal intake. German participants also scored higher on lifestyle-related behaviors (e.g., regular napping and recommended sleep duration), while no significant differences were found in the dietary habits block. Awareness of the MedDiet was significantly higher among German participants (p < 0.001), with country-specific differences in perceived barriers (i.e., higher total score among Germans with p = 0.03). Germans reported more barriers related to social norms and health conditions, while Turkish respondents more often cited attitudes, cost, and individual beliefs. Physical activity levels were significantly higher in Germany, whereas Turkish respondents reported greater social participation (p < 0.001). Weak to moderate correlations (r = 0.09 to 0.035) were found between MedLife adherence and both physical activity and social participation, with stronger associations observed among German participants. Conclusions: These findings highlight the culturally embedded nature of lifestyle behaviors related to MedDiet adherence. Despite similar overall adherence levels, Germans and Turks differ in specific dietary patterns, lifestyle practices, and perceived barriers, underscoring the need for culturally tailored interventions to improve adherence.
