Considering the challenges posed by traditional continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC) calculations, this paper proposes an event-triggered-based model predictive control (ET-MPC). First, a novel tracking error state-space model is proposed to improve tracking performance. Second, a reduced-order extended state observer (RESO) is designed to estimate and compensate for the total disturbances, thereby effectively improving robustness against the variations of the load resistance and reference voltage. At the same time, RESO significantly reduces computational complexity and accelerates the convergence speed of state estimation. Subsequently, an event trigger mechanism is introduced to enhance the MPC with a threshold function for the converter status. Finally, the reduced-order extended state observer-based model predictive control (RESO-MPC) is compared with the proposed ET-MPC through experiments. The ripple voltage of ET-MPC is within 2%, and the computational burden is reduced by more than 57%, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed ET-MPC. Full article

The effects of long-term adjustments in body weight on the lipid balance in patients with severe obesity are not well understood. This study aimed to evaluate a non-invasive lipidomic approach to identifying biomarkers that could help predict which patients may require additional therapies before and after weight loss. Using mass spectrometry, 275 lipid species were analysed in non-obese controls, patients with severe obesity, and patients one year after bariatric surgery. The results showed that severe obesity disrupts lipid pathways, contributing to lipotoxicity, inflammation, mitochondrial stress, and abnormal lipid metabolism. Although weight loss improved these disturbances, surgery did not fully normalise the lipid profiles of all patients. Outcomes varied depending on their baseline liver health and genetic differences. Persistent alterations in cholesterol handling, membrane composition, and mitochondrial function were observed in partial responders. Elevated levels of sterol lipids, glycerophospholipids, and sphingolipids emerged as markers of complete metabolic recovery, identifying candidates for targeted post-surgical interventions. These findings support the use of lipidomics to personalise obesity treatment and follow-up. Full article

With the rapid advancement of maritime sports, the integration of auxiliary unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the efficiency and safety of maritime education, particularly in tasks such as buoy deployment and escort operations. This paper presents a novel high-precision trajectory tracking control algorithm designed to ensure stable navigation of the USVs along predefined competition boundaries, thereby facilitating the reliable execution of buoy placement and escort missions. First, the paper proposes an improved adaptive fractional-order nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control (AFONFTSMC) algorithm to achieve precise trajectory tracking of the reference path. To address the challenges posed by unknown environmental disturbances and unmodeled dynamics in marine environments, a nonlinear lumped disturbance observer (NLDO) with exponential convergence properties is proposed, ensuring robust and continuous navigation performance. Additionally, an artificial potential field (APF) method is integrated to dynamically mitigate collision risks from both static and dynamic obstacles during trajectory tracking. The efficacy and practical applicability of the proposed control framework are rigorously validated through comprehensive numerical simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed algorithm achieves superior trajectory tracking accuracy under complex sea conditions, thereby offering a reliable and efficient solution for maritime sports education and related applications. To address multiple disturbance threats such as system anomalies and cyberattacks faced by power systems, an intelligent optimized secure filter method is developed in this paper for state estimation of power systems with the aid of the improved sparrow search algorithm–optimized unscented Kalman filter (ISSA-UKF). Firstly, the problem of insufficient robustness in noise modeling and parameter selection of the conventional unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is analyzed. Secondly, an intelligent optimization method is adopted to adaptively update the UKF’s process and measurement noise covariances in real time, and an ISSA-UKF fusion framework is constructed to improve the estimation accuracy and system response capability. Thirdly, an adaptive weight function based on disturbance observation differences is provided to strengthen the stability of the algorithm in response to abnormal measurements at edge nodes and dynamic system changes. Finally, simulation analysis under a typical power system model shows that compared with the conventional UKF method, the developed ISSA-UKF algorithm demonstrates significant improvements in estimation accuracy, robustness, and dynamic response performance and can effectively cope with non-ideal disturbances that may occur in power systems. Background: Post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathic pain (PTTNP) is a chronic condition often caused by dental procedures such as implant placement or tooth extraction. It involves persistent pain and sensory disturbances, negatively affecting the quality of life of patients. Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at Chosun University Dental Hospital and included 120 patients diagnosed with PTTNP involving the orofacial region. Patient data were collected between January 2014 and December 2023. Among them, 79 patients (65.8%) developed PTTNP following dental implant placement, with a total of 121 implants analyzed. The inferior alveolar nerve was most frequently involved. Clinical factors, including the time to treatment, removal of the causative factor, the Sunderland injury grade, and the type of treatment, were evaluated. Pain intensity and sensory changes were assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS). Results: Treatment initiated within the early post-injury period, commonly regarded as within three months, and implant removal tended to improve outcomes. Pharmacological therapy was the most commonly employed modality, particularly gabapentinoids (e.g., gabapentin, pregabalin) and tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline. However, combined therapy, which included pharmacologic, physical, and surgical approaches, was associated with the greatest sensory improvement. Conclusions: Prompt, multidisciplinary intervention may enhance recovery in patients with PTTNP. Implant-related injuries require careful management, and multimodal strategies appear more effective than monotherapies. Full article

The control stability and accuracy of quad tiltrotor UAVs is improved when encountering external disturbances during automatic flight by an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) parameter self-tuning control strategy based on a radial basis function (RBF) neural network. Firstly, a nonlinear flight dynamics model of the quad tiltrotor UAV is established based on the approach of component-based mechanistic modeling. Secondly, the effects of internal uncertainties and external disturbances on the model are eliminated, whilst the online adaptive parameter tuning problem for the nonlinear active disturbance rejection controller is addressed. The superior nonlinear function approximation capability of the RBF neural network is then utilized by taking both the control inputs computed by the controller and the system outputs of the quad tiltrotor model as neural network inputs to implement adaptive parameter adjustments for the Extended State Observer (ESO) component responsible for disturbance estimation and the Nonlinear State Error Feedback (NLSEF) control law of the active disturbance rejection controller. Finally, an adaptive attitude control system for the quad tiltrotor UAV is constructed, centered on the ADRC-RBF controller. Subsequently, the efficacy of the attitude control system is validated through simulation, encompassing a range of flight conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the Integral of Absolute Error (IAE) of the pitch angle response controlled by the ADRC-RBF controller is reduced to 37.4° in comparison to the ADRC controller in the absence of external disturbance in the full-states mode state of the quad tiltrotor UAV, and the oscillation amplitude of the pitch angle response controlled by the ADRC-RBF controller is generally reduced by approximately 50% in comparison to the ADRC controller in the presence of external disturbance. In comparison with the conventional ADRC controller, the proposed ADRC-RBF controller demonstrates superior performance with regard to anti-disturbance capability, adaptability, and tracking accuracy. Rehabilitation devices such as actuated lower-limb exoskeletons can provide essential mobility assistance for pediatric patients with gait impairments. Enhancing their control systems under conditions of user variability and dynamic disturbances remains a significant challenge, particularly in active-assist modes. This study presents a human-in-the-loop control architecture for a pediatric lower-limb exoskeleton, combining outer-loop admittance control with robust inner-loop trajectory tracking via a non-singular terminal sliding-mode (NSTSM) controller. Designed for active-assist gait rehabilitation in children aged 8–12 years, the exoskeleton dynamically responds to user interaction forces while ensuring finite-time convergence under system uncertainties. To enhance adaptability, we augment the inner-loop control with a twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) reinforcement learning framework. The actor–critic RL agent tunes NSTSM gains in real-time, enabling personalized model-free adaptation to subject-specific gait dynamics and external disturbances. The numerical simulations show improved trajectory tracking, with RMSE reductions of 27.82% (hip) and 5.43% (knee), and IAE improvements of 40.85% and 10.20%, respectively, over the baseline NSTSM controller. The proposed approach also reduced the peak interaction torques across all the joints, suggesting more compliant and comfortable assistance for users. While minor degradation is observed at the ankle joint, the TD3-NSTSM controller demonstrates improved responsiveness and stability, particularly in high-load joints. This research contributes to advancing pediatric gait rehabilitation using RL-enhanced control, offering improved mobility support and adaptive rehabilitation outcomes. Full article

The Inner Mongolia Plateau (IMP), situated in the arid and semi-arid ecological transition zone of northern China, is particularly vulnerable to both climate change and human activities. Understanding the spatiotemporal vegetation dynamics and their driving forces is essential for regional ecological management. This study employs Sen’s slope estimation, BFAST analysis, residual trend method and Geodetector to analyze the spatial patterns of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) variability and distinguish between climatic and anthropogenic influences. Key findings include the following: (1) From 1982 to 2022, vegetation cover across the IMP exhibited a significant greening trend. Zonal analysis showed that this spatial heterogeneity was strongly regulated by regional hydrothermal conditions, with varied responses across land cover types and pronounced recovery observed in high-altitude areas. (2) In the western arid regions, vegetation trends were unstable, often marked by interruptions and reversals, contrasting with the sustained greening observed in the eastern zones. (3) Vegetation growth was primarily temperature-driven in the eastern forested areas, precipitation-driven in the central grasslands, and severely limited in the western deserts due to warming-induced drought. (4) Human activities exerted dual effects: significant positive residual trends were observed in the Hetao Plain and southern Horqin Sandy Land, while widespread negative residuals emerged across the southern deserts and central grasslands. (5) Vegetation change was driven by climate and human factors, with recovery mainly due to climate improvement and degradation linked to their combined impact. These findings highlight the interactive mechanisms of climate change and human disturbance in regulating terrestrial vegetation dynamics, offering insights for sustainable development and ecosystem education in climate-sensitive systems. Background/Objectives: Pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is complicated by iron overload and hypomagnesemia, both contributing to immune dysfunction and post-transplant morbidity. The combined impact of these metabolic disturbances on pediatric allo-HSCT outcomes remains unexplored. This study aims to determine whether hypomagnesemia can serve as a prognostic biomarker for delayed immune reconstitution and explores its interplay with iron overload in predicting post-transplant complications and survival outcomes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 163 pediatric allo-HSCT recipients. Serum magnesium levels were measured at defined intervals post-transplant, and outcomes were correlated with CD4+ T cell recovery, time to engraftment, incidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and survival within 12 months. Iron status, including siderosis severity, was evaluated using imaging and laboratory parameters obtained from clinical records. Results: Patients who died within 12 months post-transplant exhibited significantly lower magnesium levels. Hypomagnesemia was associated with delayed CD4+ T cell recovery, prolonged engraftment, and an increased risk of acute GVHD. A strong inverse correlation was observed between magnesium levels and the severity of siderosis. Iron overload appeared to exacerbate magnesium deficiency. Additionally, the coexistence of hypomagnesemia and siderosis significantly increased the risk of immune dysfunction and early mortality. No significant association was found with chronic GVHD. Conclusions: Hypomagnesemia is a significant, early predictor of poor outcomes in pediatric allo-HSCT, particularly in the context of iron overload, underscoring the need for early intervention, including iron chelation and MRI, to improve outcomes. Ensuring a sustainable and healthy human environment in university dormitories is essential for students’ learning, living, and overall health and well-being. To address this need, we carried out a series of systematic field measurements of the noise levels at 30 dormitories in three representative major urban universities in a major provincial capital city in China and designed and implemented a comprehensive questionnaire and surveyed 1005 students about their perceptions of their acoustic environment. We proposed and applied a sustainability–health-oriented, multidimensional assessment framework to assess the acoustic environment of the dormitories and student responses to natural sound, technological sounds, and human-made sounds. Using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach combined with the field measurements and student surveys, we identified three categories and six factors on student health and well-being for assessing the acoustic environment of university dormitories. The field data indicated that noise levels at most of the measurement points exceeded the recommended or regulatory thresholds. Higher noise impacts were observed in early mornings and evenings, primarily due to traffic noise and indoor activities. Natural sounds (e.g., wind, birdsong, water flow) were highly valued by students for their positive effect on the students’ pleasantness and satisfaction. Conversely, human and technological sounds (traffic noise, construction noise, and indoor noise from student activities) were deemed highly disturbing. Gender differences were evident in the assessment of the acoustic environment, with male students generally reporting higher levels of the pleasantness and preference for natural sounds compared to female students. Educational backgrounds showed no significant influence on sound perceptions. The findings highlight the need for providing actionable guidelines for dormitory ecological design, such as integrating vertical greening in dormitory design, water features, and biodiversity planting to introduce natural soundscapes, in parallel with developing campus activity standards and lifestyle during noise-sensitive periods. The multidimensional assessment framework will drive a sustainable human–ecology–sound symbiosis in university dormitories, and the category and factor scales to be employed and actions to improve the level of student health and well-being, thus, providing a reference for both research and practice for sustainable cities and communities. In this paper, we propose a hybrid algorithm that integrates an improved artificial potential field method (IAPF), model predictive control (MPC), and an extended state observer (ESO) to address the obstacle avoidance problem in multi-unmanned surface vehicle (Multi-USV) formations, including both dynamic and static obstacles, as well as navigation through narrow waterways. Initially, the virtual structure method was applied for formation control. Next, the traditional potential field method was enhanced by employing a saturated attractive potential field and a partitioned repulsive potential field, which improve formation stability and obstacle avoidance accuracy in complex environments. The extended state observer was then employed to estimate and compensate for unknown system dynamics and external disturbances from the marine environment in real time, improving system robustness. On this basis, by leveraging the multi-step predictive optimization capabilities of model predictive control, the proposed algorithm dynamically adjusts control inputs based on the desired trajectories generated from potential field forces, which ensures the stability of formation control and effective obstacle avoidance. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm effectively avoids both dynamic and static obstacles in multi-unmanned surface vehicle formations and enables successful navigation through narrow waterways by altering the formation. This paper studies the distributed robust predefined-time sliding mode control (DRPSC) problem for high-order heterogeneous multi-agent systems under input saturation while considering external disturbances and model uncertainties. Firstly, a distributed predefined-time state observer (PTSO) is designed for each agent to achieve individual estimation of the state information of the virtual leader within a predefined time, and the observer does not need to count on the global information of the system. Secondly, a predefined-time auxiliary dynamic system (PTADS) is developed to solve the actuator’s input saturation problem. Thirdly, a distributed predefined-time sliding mode controller (PTSMC) is proposed, which ensures that the error converges to a small region near zero within a predefined time and combines H control to deal with the lumped uncertainty disturbances in the system to improve the robustness of the system. In addition, a memory event-triggered mechanism (METM) is designed to reduce the communication frequency of the underactuated AUV-USV multi-agent system and reduce the consumption of communication resources. Finally, Lyapunov theory is employed to prove that the closed-loop system is predefined-time stable, and the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective. Full article

Background: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder characterized by excess body weight, hyperandrogenism, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance often resulting in hirsutism and infertility. Dietary strategies have been shown to ameliorate metabolic disturbances, hormonal imbalances, and inflammation associated with PCOS. Recent evidence indicates that intermittent fasting (IF) could effectively enhance health outcomes and regulate circadian rhythm; however, its impact on PCOS remain unclear. Objective: Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aims to examine the effect of IF on women diagnosed with PCOS. Methods: Comprehensive research was conducted across three major databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science without date restrictions. Meta-analysis was performed using Cochrane Review Manager Version 5.4 software. Results: Five studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. IF significantly reduced body weight (MD = −4.25 kg, 95% CI: −7.71, −0.79; p = 0.02), BMI (MD = −2.05 kg/m2, 95% CI: −3.26, −0.85; p = 0.0008), fasting blood glucose (FBG; MD = −2.86 mg/dL, 95% CI: −4.83, −0.89; p = 0.004), fasting blood insulin (FBI; MD = −3.17 μU/mL, 95% CI: −5.18, −1.16; p = 0.002), insulin resistance (HOMA-IR; MD = −0.94, 95% CI: −1.39, −0.50; p < 0.0001), triglycerides (TG; MD = −40.71 mg/dL, 95% CI: −61.53, −19.90; p = 0.0001), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S; MD = −33.21 μg/dL, 95% CI: −57.29, −9.13; p = 0.007), free androgen index (FAI; MD = −1.61%, 95% CI: −2.76, −0.45; p = 0.006), and C-reactive protein (CRP; MD = −2.00 mg/L, 95% CI: −3.15, −0.85; p = 0.006), while increasing sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG; SMD = 0.50, 95% CI: 0.22, 0.77; p = 0.004). No significant changes were observed in waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), total cholesterol (TC), LDL, HDL, total testosterone (TT), or anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH). Conclusions: IF represents a promising strategy for improving weight and metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory profiles in women with PCOS. However, the existing evidence remains preliminary, necessitating further robust studies to substantiate these findings. Full article

An electro-hydraulic servo loading system for a pavement mechanical properties test device was designed. The simulation analysis and test results showed that the PID control met the design requirements, but the output’s maximum error did not. Therefore, a fast terminal sliding mode control strategy with an extended state observer (ESO) was proposed. A tracking differentiator was constructed to obtain smooth differential signals from the input signals. The order of the system was reduced by considering the third and higher orders of the system as the total disturbance, and the states and the total disturbance of the system were estimated using the ESO. The fast terminal sliding mode control achieved fast convergence of the system within a limited time. The simulation results showed that the proposed control strategy improved the system accuracy and anti-disturbance ability, and system control performance was optimized. Full article

Microfluidic methods are an important tool for studying the microrheology of blood and the mechanical properties of blood cells—erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets. In patients with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, sickle cell anemia, or cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular diseases, hemorheological alterations are commonly observed. These include increased blood viscosity and red blood cell (RBC) aggregation, along with reduced RBC deformability. Such disturbances significantly contribute to impaired microcirculation and microvascular perfusion. In blood vessels, abnormal hemorheological parameters can elevate resistance to blood flow, exert greater mechanical stress on the endothelial wall, and lead to microvascular complications. Among these parameters, erythrocyte deformability is a potential biomarker for diseases including diabetes, malaria, and cancer. This review highlights recent advances in microfluidic technologies for in vitro assays of RBC deformability and aggregation, as well as leukocyte aggregation and adhesion. It summarizes the core principles of microfluidic platforms and the experimental findings related to hemodynamic parameters. The advantages and limitations of each technique are discussed, and future directions for improving these devices are explored. Additionally, some aspects of the modeling of the microrheological properties of blood cells are considered. Overall, the described microfluidic systems represent promising tools for investigating erythrocyte mechanics and leukocyte behavior. Full article
