Quantum memory is essential for the prolonged storage and retrieval of quantum information. Nevertheless, no current studies have focused on the creation of effective quantum memory for continuous variables while accounting for the decoherence rate. This work presents an effective continuous-variable quantum key distribution method with parameter optimization utilizing the Elitist Elk Herd Random Immigrants Optimizer (2E-HRIO) technique. At the outset of transmission, the quantum device undergoes initialization and authentication via Compressed Hash-based Message Authentication Code with Encoded Post-Quantum Hash (CHMAC-EPQH). The settings are subsequently optimized from the authenticated device via 2E-HRIO, which mitigates the effects of decoherence by adaptively tuning system parameters. Subsequently, quantum bits are produced from the verified device, and pilot insertion is executed within the quantum bits. The pilot-inserted signal is thereafter subjected to pulse shaping using a Gaussian filter. The pulse-shaped signal undergoes modulation. Authenticated post-modulation, the prediction of link failure is conducted through an authenticated channel using Radial Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise. Subsequently, transmission occurs via a non-failure connection. The receiver performs channel equalization on the received signal with Recursive Regularized Least Mean Squares. Subsequently, a dataset for side-channel attack authentication is gathered and preprocessed, followed by feature extraction and classification using Adaptive Depthwise Separable Convolutional Neural Networks (ADS-CNNs), which enhances security against side-channel attacks. The quantum state is evaluated based on the signal received, and raw data are collected. Thereafter, a connection is established between the transmitter and receiver. Both the transmitter and receiver perform the scanning process. Thereafter, the calculation and correction of the error rate are performed based on the sifting results. Ultimately, privacy amplification and key authentication are performed using the repaired key via B-CHMAC-EPQH. The proposed system demonstrated improved resistance to decoherence and side-channel attacks, while achieving a reconciliation efficiency above 90% and increased key generation rate. Full article

Gravity and gravity gradient data serve as fundamental inputs for geophysical resource exploration and geological structure analysis. However, traditional denoising methods—including wavelet transforms, moving averages, and low-pass filtering—exhibit signal loss and limited adaptability under complex, non-stationary noise conditions. To address these challenges, this study proposes an improved U-Net deep learning framework that integrates multi-scale feature extraction and attention mechanisms. Furthermore, a Laplace consistency constraint is introduced into the loss function to enhance denoising performance and physical interpretability. Notably, the datasets used in this study are generated by the authors, involving simulations of subsurface prism distributions with realistic density perturbations (±20% of typical rock densities) and the addition of controlled Gaussian noise (5%, 10%, 15%, and 30%) to simulate field-like conditions, ensuring the diversity and physical relevance of training samples. Experimental validation on these synthetic datasets and real field datasets demonstrates the superiority of the proposed method over conventional techniques. For noise levels of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 30% in test sets, the improved U-Net achieves Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratios (PSNR) of 59.13 dB, 52.03 dB, 48.62 dB, and 48.81 dB, respectively, outperforming wavelet transforms, moving averages, and low-pass filtering by 10–30 dB. In multi-component gravity gradient denoising, our method excels in detail preservation and noise suppression, improving Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) by 15–25%. Field data tests further confirm enhanced identification of key geological anomalies and overall data quality improvement. In summary, the improved U-Net not only delivers quantitative advancements in gravity data denoising but also provides a novel approach for high-precision geophysical data preprocessing. Full article

A rather novel approach for delivery of inertia-like grid services through energy storage devices is described and validated by physical experiments and on-site measurements. In this approach, denoted “amplified inertia response”, an actual inertial response from a grid-connected synchronous machine is amplified. This inertia emulation approach is contrasted by what is called synthetic inertia, which uses a frequency-locked loop in order to extract the grid frequency. The synthetic inertia faces the usual input signal filtering challenges if the signal-to-noise ratio is low. The amplified inertia controller avoids the input filtering since it only amplifies the natural inertial response from a synchronous machine. However, rotor angle oscillations lead to filtering requirements of the amplified version as well, but on the output signal of the controller. Experimental comparisons are conducted both on the measurement output from the physical experiments in a microgrid and on analysis based on input from on-site measurements from a 55 MVA hydropower generator connected to the Nordic grid. In the specific cases compared, we observe that the amplified inertia version is the better method for smaller power systems, with large frequency fluctuations. On the other hand, the synthetic inertia method is the better in larger power systems as compared to the amplification of the inertial response from a real production unit. Full article

MEAC: A Multi-Scale Edge-Aware Convolution Module for Robust Infrared Small-Target Detection

Infrared small-target detection remains a critical challenge in military reconnaissance, environmental monitoring, forest-fire prevention, and search-and-rescue operations, owing to the targets’ extremely small size, sparse texture, low signal-to-noise ratio, and complex background interference. Traditional convolutional neural networks (CNNs) struggle to detect such weak, low-contrast objects due to their limited receptive fields and insufficient feature extraction capabilities. To overcome these limitations, we propose a Multi-Scale Edge-Aware Convolution (MEAC) module that enhances feature representation for small infrared targets without increasing parameter count or computational cost. Specifically, MEAC fuses (1) original local features, (2) multi-scale context captured via dilated convolutions, and (3) high-contrast edge cues derived from differential Gaussian filters. After fusing these branches, channel and spatial attention mechanisms are applied to adaptively emphasize critical regions, further improving feature discrimination. The MEAC module is fully compatible with standard convolutional layers and can be seamlessly embedded into various network architectures. Extensive experiments on three public infrared small-target datasets (SIRSTD-UAVB, IRSTDv1, and IRSTD-1K) demonstrate that networks augmented with MEAC significantly outperform baseline models using standard convolutions. When compared to eleven mainstream convolution modules (ACmix, AKConv, DRConv, DSConv, LSKConv, MixConv, PConv, ODConv, GConv, and Involution), our method consistently achieves the highest detection accuracy and robustness. Experiments conducted across multiple versions, including YOLOv10, YOLOv11, and YOLOv12, as well as various network levels, demonstrate that the MEAC module achieves stable improvements in performance metrics while slightly increasing computational and parameter complexity. These results validate the MEAC module’s significant advantages in enhancing the detection of small and weak objects and suppressing interference from complex backgrounds. These results validate MEAC’s effectiveness in enhancing weak small-target detection and suppressing complex background noise, highlighting its strong generalization ability and practical application potential. Selective Cleaning Enhances Machine Learning Accuracy for Drug Repurposing: Multiscale Discovery of MDM2 Inhibitors

Cancer remains one of the most formidable challenges to human health; hence, developing effective treatments is critical for saving lives. An important strategy involves reactivating tumor suppressor genes, particularly p53, by targeting their negative regulator MDM2, which is essential in promoting cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Leveraging a drug repurposing approach, we screened over 24,000 clinically tested molecules to identify new MDM2 inhibitors. A key innovation of this work is the development and application of a selective cleaning algorithm that systematically filters assay data to mitigate noise and inconsistencies inherent in large-scale bioactivity datasets. This approach significantly improved the predictive accuracy of our machine learning model for pIC50 values, reducing RMSE by 21.6% and achieving state-of-the-art performance (R2 = 0.87)—a substantial improvement over standard data preprocessing pipelines. The optimized model was integrated with structure-based virtual screening via molecular docking to prioritize repurposing candidate compounds. We identified two clinical CB1 antagonists, MePPEP and otenabant, and the statin drug atorvastatin as promising repurposing candidates based on their high predicted potency and binding affinity toward MDM2. Interactions with the related proteins MDM4 and BCL2 suggest these compounds may enhance p53 restoration through multi-target mechanisms. Quantum mechanical (ONIOM) optimizations and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the stability and favorable interaction profiles of the selected protein–ligand complexes, resembling that of navtemadlin, a known MDM2 inhibitor. This multiscale, accuracy-boosted workflow introduces a novel data-curation strategy that substantially enhances AI model performance and enables efficient drug repurposing against challenging cancer targets. When a CMOS (Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) imaging system operates at a high frame rate or a high line rate, the exposure time of the imaging system is limited, and the acquired image data will be dark, with a low signal-to-noise ratio and unsatisfactory sharpness. Therefore, in order to improve the visibility and signal-to-noise ratio of remote sensing images based on CMOS imaging systems, this paper proposes a low-light remote sensing image enhancement method and a corresponding ZYNQ (Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC) design scheme called the BGIR (Bilateral-Guided Image Restoration) algorithm, which uses an improved multi-scale Retinex algorithm in the HSV (hue–saturation–value) color space. First, the RGB image is used to separate the original image’s H, S, and V components. Then, the V component is processed using the improved algorithm based on bilateral filtering. The image is then adjusted using the gamma correction algorithm to make preliminary adjustments to the brightness and contrast of the whole image, and the S component is processed using segmented linear enhancement to obtain the base layer. The algorithm is also deployed to ZYNQ using ARM + FPGA software synergy, reasonably allocating each algorithm module and accelerating the algorithm by using a lookup table and constructing a pipeline. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves processing speed by nearly 30 times while maintaining the recovery effect, which has the advantages of fast processing speed, miniaturization, embeddability, and portability. Following the end-to-end deployment, the processing speeds for resolutions of 640 × 480 and 1280 × 720 are shown to reach 80 fps and 30 fps, respectively, thereby satisfying the performance requirements of the imaging system. The precise identification of hydrocarbon-rich zones is crucial for optimizing exploration and production processes in the oil industry. Magnetotelluric (MT) surveys play a fundamental role in mapping subsurface geological structures. This study presents a novel methodology for automatically delineating resistivity contrasts in MT models by employing advanced machine learning and computer vision techniques. This approach commences with data augmentation to enhance the diversity and volume of resistivity data. Subsequently, a bilateral filter was applied to reduce noise while preserving edge details within the resistivity images. To further improve image contrast and highlight significant resistivity variations, contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) was employed. Finally, k-means clustering was utilized to segment the resistivity data into distinct groups based on resistivity values, enabling the identification of color features in different centroids. This facilitated the detection of regions with significant resistivity contrasts in the reservoir. From the clustered images, color masks were generated to visually differentiate the groups and calculate the area and proportion of each group within the pictures. Key features extracted from resistivity profiles were used to train unsupervised learning models capable of generalizing across different geological settings. The proposed methodology improves the accuracy of detecting zones with oil potential and offers scalable applicability to different datasets with minimal retraining, applicable to different subsurface environments. Ultimately, this study seeks to improve the efficiency of petroleum exploration by providing a high-precision automated framework with segmentation and contrast delineation for resistivity analysis, integrating advanced image processing and machine learning techniques. During initial analyses using only k-means, the resulting optimal value of the silhouette coefficient K was 2. After using bilateral filtering together with contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) and validation by an expert, the results were more representative, and six clusters were identified. Ultimately, this study seeks to improve the efficiency of petroleum exploration by providing a high-precision automated framework with segmentation and contrast delineation for resistivity analysis, integrating advanced image processing and machine learning techniques. This study presents a comprehensive methodology for the detection and characterization of fractures in geological samples using X-ray computed tomography (CT). By combining convolution-based image processing techniques with advanced neural network-based segmentation, the proposed approach achieves high precision in identifying complex fracture networks. The method was applied to a marly limestone sample from the Maiolica Formation, part of the Umbria–Marche stratigraphic succession (Northern Apennines, Italy), a geological context where fractures often vary in size and contrast and are frequently filled with minerals such as calcite or clays, making their detection challenging. A critical part of the work involved addressing multiple sources of uncertainty that can impact fracture identification and measurement. These included the inherent spatial resolution limit of the CT system (voxel size of 70.69 μm), low contrast between fractures and the surrounding matrix, artifacts introduced by the tomographic reconstruction process (specifically the Radon transform), and noise from both the imaging system and environmental factors. To mitigate these challenges, we employed a series of preprocessing steps such as Gaussian and median filtering to enhance image quality and reduce noise, scanning from multiple angles to improve data redundancy, and intensity normalization to compensate for shading artifacts. The neural network segmentation demonstrated superior capability in distinguishing fractures filled with various materials from the host rock, overcoming the limitations observed in traditional convolution-based methods. Overall, this integrated workflow significantly improves the reliability and accuracy of fracture quantification in CT data, providing a robust and reproducible framework for the analysis of discontinuities in heterogeneous and complex geological materials. In recent years, pneumatic stages have attracted attention as stages for semiconductor manufacturing equipment due to their low cost and minimal maintenance requirements. However, pneumatic stages include nonlinear elements such as friction and air compressibility, making precise control challenging. To address this issue, this paper aims to achieve high-precision positioning by applying a nonlinear position control method to pneumatic stages. To achieve this, we propose a control method that combines filtered right coprime factorization and Prescribed Performance Control–Sliding Mode Control (PPC-SMC). Filtered right coprime factorization not only stabilizes and simplifies the plant but also reduces noise. Furthermore, PPC-SMC enables safer and faster control by constraining the system state within a switching surface that imposes limits on the error range. Through experiments on the actual system, it was confirmed that the proposed method achieves dramatically higher precision and faster tracking compared to conventional methods. Full article

Circulating current control is a critical part of the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) control system. Existing control methods rely on arm current information obtained from complex current measurement devices. However, these devices are susceptible to failures, which can lead to distorted arm currents, increased peak arm current values, and higher losses. In extreme cases, this can result in system instability. This paper first analyzes four typical arm current measurement faults, i.e., constant gain faults, amplitude deviation faults, phase shift faults, and stuck faults. Then, a Kalman Filter (KF)-based fault detection method is proposed, which allows for the simultaneous monitoring status of all six arm current measurements. Moreover, to facilitate fault detection, the Moving Root Mean Square (MRMS) value of the observation residual is defined, which effectively detects faults while suppressing noise. The entire fault detection process takes less than 20 ms. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental results. This study proposes a hybrid approach combining threshold-based algorithm and deep learning to detect four major gait events—initial contact (IC), toe-off (TO), opposite initial contact (OIC), and opposite toe-off (OTO)—using only a smartphone’s built-in inertial sensor placed in the user’s pocket. The algorithm enables estimation of spatiotemporal gait parameters such as cadence, stride length, loading response (LR), pre-swing (PSw), single limb support (SLS), double limb support (DLS), and swing phase and symmetry. Gait data were collected from 20 healthy individuals and 13 hemiparetic stroke patients. To reduce sensitivity to sensor orientation and suppress noise, sum vector magnitude (SVM) features were extracted and filtered using a second-order Butterworth low-pass filter at 3 Hz. A deep learning model was further compressed using knowledge distillation, reducing model size by 96% while preserving accuracy. The proposed method achieved error rates in event detection below 2% of the gait cycle for healthy gait and a maximum of 4.4% for patient gait in event detection, with corresponding parameter estimation errors also within 4%. These results demonstrated the feasibility of accurate and real-time gait monitoring using a smartphone. In addition, statistical analysis of gait parameters such as symmetry and DLS revealed significant differences between the normal and patient groups. While this study is not intended to provide or guide rehabilitation treatment, it offers a practical means to regularly monitor patients’ gait status and observe gait recovery trends over time. This paper presents a methodology for extracting and simulating arterial pulse waveform signals from Fabry–Perot interferometric measurements, emphasizing a practical approach for noninvasive cardiovascular assessment. A key novelty of this work is the presentation of a complete Python-based processing pipeline, which is made publicly available as open-source code on GitHub (git version 2.39.5). To the authors’ knowledge, no such repository for demodulating these specific interferometric signals to obtain a raw arterial pulse waveform previously existed. The proposed system utilizes accessible Python-based preprocessing steps, including outlier removal, Butterworth high-pass filtering, and min–max normalization, designed for robust signal quality even in settings with common physiological artifacts. Key features such as the rate of change, the Hilbert transform of the rate of change (envelope), and detected extrema guide the signal reconstruction, offering a computationally efficient pathway to reveal its periodic and phase-dependent dynamics. Visual analyses highlight amplitude variations and residual noise sources, primarily attributed to sensor bandwidth limitations and interpolation methods, considerations critical for real-world deployment. Despite these practical challenges, the reconstructed arterial pulse waveform signals provide valuable insights into arterial motion, with the methodology’s performance validated on measurements from three subjects against synchronized ECG recordings. This demonstrates the viability of Fabry–Perot sensors as a potentially cost-effective and readily implementable tool for noninvasive cardiovascular diagnostics. The results underscore the importance of precise yet practical signal processing techniques and pave the way for further improvements in interferometric sensing, bio-signal analysis, and their translation into clinical practice. Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR)-inertial simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is a critical component in multi-sensor autonomous navigation systems, providing both accurate pose estimation and detailed environmental understanding. Despite its importance, existing optimization-based LiDAR-inertial SLAM methods often face key limitations: unreliable feature extraction, sensitivity to noise and sparsity, and the inclusion of redundant or low-quality feature correspondences. These weaknesses hinder their performance in complex or dynamic environments and fail to meet the reliability requirements of autonomous systems. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel and accurate LiDAR-inertial SLAM framework with three major contributions. First, we employ a robust multi-category feature extraction method based on principal component analysis (PCA), which effectively filters out noisy and weakly structured points, ensuring stable feature representation. Second, to suppress outlier correspondences and enhance pose estimation reliability, we introduce a coarse-to-fine two-stage feature correspondence selection strategy that evaluates geometric consistency and structural contribution. Third, we develop an adaptive weighted pose estimation scheme that considers both distance and directional consistency, improving the robustness of feature matching under varying scene conditions. These components are jointly optimized within a sliding-window-based factor graph, integrating LiDAR feature factors, IMU pre-integration, and loop closure constraints. Extensive experiments on public datasets (KITTI, M2DGR) and a custom-collected dataset validate the proposed method’s effectiveness. Results show that our system consistently outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in accuracy and robustness, particularly in scenes with sparse structure, motion distortion, and dynamic interference, demonstrating its suitability for reliable real-world deployment. Star sensors, as the most precise attitude measurement devices currently available, play a crucial role in spacecraft attitude estimation. However, traditional frame-based cameras tend to suffer from target blur and loss under high-dynamic maneuvers, which severely limit the applicability of conventional star sensors in complex space environments. In contrast, event cameras—drawing inspiration from biological vision—can capture brightness changes at ultrahigh speeds and output a series of asynchronous events, thereby demonstrating enormous potential for space detection applications. Based on this, this paper proposes an event data extraction method for weak, high-dynamic space targets to enhance the performance of event cameras in detecting space targets under high-dynamic maneuvers. In the target denoising phase, we fully consider the characteristics of space targets’ motion trajectories and optimize a classical spatiotemporal correlation filter, thereby significantly improving the signal-to-noise ratio for weak targets. During the target extraction stage, we introduce the DBSCAN clustering algorithm to achieve the subpixel-level extraction of target centroids. Moreover, to address issues of target trajectory distortion and data discontinuity in certain ultrahigh-dynamic scenarios, we construct a camera motion model based on real-time motion data from an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and utilize it to effectively compensate for and correct the target’s trajectory. Finally, a ground-based simulation system is established to validate the applicability and superior performance of the proposed method in real-world scenarios. Full article

As a core component of machining tools and vehicles, the load-bearing and transmission performance of rolling bearings is directly related to product processing quality and driving safety, highlighting the critical importance of fault detection. To address the nonlinearity, non-stationary modulation, and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observed in bearing vibration signals, we propose a fault feature extraction method based on spectral kurtosis and Hilbert envelope demodulation. First, spectral kurtosis is employed to determine the center frequency and bandwidth of the signal adaptively, and a bandpass filter is constructed to enhance the characteristic frequency components. Subsequently, the envelope spectrum is extracted through the Hilbert transform, allowing for the precise identification of fault characteristic frequencies. In the fault diagnosis stage, a multidimensional feature vector is formed by combining the kurtosis index with the amplitude ratios of inner/outer race characteristic frequencies, and fault pattern classification is accomplished using a Least-Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments were conducted on the bearing datasets from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and the Machine Failure Prevention Technology (MFPT) Society. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method surpasses other comparative approaches, achieving identification accuracies of 95% and 100% for the CWRU and MFPT datasets, respectively.
