Large-scale events, such as festivals and public gatherings, pose serious problems in terms of traffic congestion, slow transaction processing, and security risks to transportation planning. This study proposes a blockchain-based solution for enhancing the efficiency and security of intelligent transport systems (ITS) by utilizing state channels and rollups. Throughput is optimized, enabling transaction speeds of 800 to 3500 transactions per second (TPS) and delays of 5 to 1.5 s. Prevent data tampering, strengthen security, and enhance data integrity from 89% to 99.999%, as well as encryption efficacy from 90% to 98%. Furthermore, our system reduces congestion, optimizes vehicle movement, and shares real-time, secure data with stakeholders. Practical applications include fast and safe road toll payments, faster public transit ticketing, improved emergency response coordination, and enhanced urban mobility. The decentralized blockchain helps maintain trust among users, transportation authorities, and event organizers. Our approach extends beyond large-scale events and proposes a path toward ubiquitous, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven decision-making in a broader urban transit network, informing future operations in dynamic traffic optimization. This study demonstrates the potential of blockchain to create more intelligent, more secure, and scalable transportation systems, which will help reduce urban mobility inefficiencies and contribute to the development of resilient smart cities. The rapid electrification of transportation and the proliferation of rooftop solar photovoltaics (PVs) in urban environments are reshaping the operational dynamics of power distribution networks. However, the inherent uncertainty in electric vehicle (EV) behavior—including arrival times, charging preferences, and state-of-charge—as well as spatially and temporally variable solar generation, presents a profound challenge to existing scheduling frameworks. This paper proposes a novel data-driven distributionally robust optimization (DDRO) framework for solar-powered EV charging coordination under spatiotemporal uncertainty. Leveraging empirical datasets of EV usage and solar irradiance from a smart city deployment, the framework constructs Wasserstein ambiguity sets around historical distributions, enabling worst-case-aware decision-making without requiring the assumption of probability laws. The problem is formulated as a two-stage optimization model. The first stage determines day-ahead charging schedules, solar utilization levels, and grid allocations across an urban-scale distribution feeder. The second stage models real-time recourse actions—such as dynamic curtailment or demand reshaping—after uncertainties are realized. Physical grid constraints are modeled using convexified LinDistFlow equations, while EV behavior is segmented into user classes with individualized uncertainty structures. The model is evaluated on a modified IEEE 123-bus feeder with 52 EV-PV nodes, using 15 min resolution over a 24 h horizon and 12 months of real-world data. Comparative results demonstrate that the proposed DDRO method reduces total operational costs by up to 15%, eliminates voltage violations entirely, and improves EV service satisfaction by more than 30% relative to deterministic and stochastic baselines. This work makes three primary contributions: it introduces a robust, tractable optimization architecture that captures spatiotemporal uncertainty using empirical Wasserstein sets; it integrates behavioral and physical modeling within a unified dispatch framework for urban energy-mobility systems; and it demonstrates the value of robust coordination in simultaneously improving grid resilience, renewable utilization, and EV user satisfaction. The results offer practical insights for city-scale planners seeking to enable the reliable and efficient electrification of mobility infrastructure under uncertainty. Full article

Decision making is challenging in autonomous driving (AD) under highway scenarios because of the unpredictable behaviors of neighbor vehicles, leading to the necessity of accurately modelling interactions between vehicles. Though ego-attention, a variant of self-attention, provides a way for object interaction extraction, its feature expression still needs to improve. This paper improves the original ego-attention by reweighting the encoding vehicle features, forcing them to pay more attention to significant features. Moreover, we designed a rule-based driver assistance module (DAM) to alleviate mis-decisions by constraining action space. Finally, we constructed our final AD decision-making model by integrating the proposed reweighting ego-attention and the DAM into the dual-input decision-making framework trained by enhanced deep reinforcement learning (DRL). We evaluated our decision-making model on highway scenarios. The results show that our model achieves better performance in success step (39.95 steps/episode), speed (29.15 m/s), lane-changing times (5.64 times/episode), and task completion rate (98%) than existing models, including DRL-GAT-SA, AE-D3QN-DA, and ego-attention-based ones, implying the competitive driving accuracy, safety, and comfort of our model. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) hold the potential to revolutionize transportation by improving safety, operational efficiency, and environmental impact. However, ensuring reliability and safety in real-world conditions remains a major challenge. Based on an in-depth examination of 33 peer-reviewed studies (2015–2025), this systematic review organizes advancements across five key domains: fault detection and diagnosis (FDD), collision avoidance and decision making, system reliability and resilience, validation and verification (V&V), and safety evaluation. It integrates both hardware- and software-level perspectives, with a focus on emerging techniques such as Bayesian behavior prediction, uncertainty-aware control, and set-based fault detection to enhance operational robustness. Despite these advances, this review identifies persistent challenges, including limited cross-layer fault modeling, lack of formal verification for learning-based components, and the scarcity of scenario-driven validation datasets. To address these gaps, this paper proposes future directions such as verifiable machine learning, unified fault propagation models, digital twin-based reliability frameworks, and cyber-physical threat modeling. This review offers a comprehensive reference for developing certifiable, context-aware, and fail-operational autonomous driving systems, contributing to the broader goal of ensuring safe and trustworthy AV deployment. This study introduces a novel tripartite evolutionary game model to analyze the strategic interactions among electric vehicle (EV) aggregators, local governments, and EV users in vehicle–grid interaction (VGI) markets. The core novelty lies in capturing bounded rationality and dynamic decision-making across the three stakeholders, revealing how policy incentives and market mechanisms drive the transition from disordered charging to bidirectional VGI. Key findings include the following: (1) The system exhibits five stable equilibrium points, corresponding to three distinct developmental phases of the VGI market: disordered charging (V0G), unidirectional VGI (V1G), and bidirectional VGI (V2G). (2) Peak–valley price differences are the primary driver for transitioning from V0G to V1G. (3) EV aggregators’ willingness to adopt V2G is influenced by upgrade costs, while local governments’ subsidy strategies depend on peak-shaving benefits and regulatory costs. (4) Increasing the subsidy differential between V1G and V2G accelerates market evolution toward V2G. The framework offers actionable policy insights for sustainable VGI development, while advancing evolutionary game theory applications in energy systems. Full article

In light of the persistent environmental degradation driven by fossil fuels, developing new energy sources is essential for achieving sustainability. The recent surge in electric vehicle adoption has underscored the significance of new energy batteries. However, the supply chains of new energy battery manufacturers face multiple sustainability risks, which impede sustainable practice adoption. To tackle these challenges, leanness philosophy is an effective tool, and Industry 5.0 enhances its efficacy significantly, further mitigating sustainability risks. This study integrates the supply chain, leanness philosophy, and Industry 5.0 by applying quality function deployment. A novel four-phase hybrid MCDM model integrating the fuzzy Delphi method, DEMATEL, AHP, and fuzzy VIKOR, identified five key sustainability risks five core leanness principles, and eight critical Industry 5.0 enablers. By examining a Chinese new energy battery manufacturer as a case study, the findings aim to assist managers and decision-makers in mitigating sustainability risks within their supply chains. The acquisition of plant phenotypic traits is essential for selecting superior varieties, improving crop yield, and supporting precision agriculture and agricultural decision-making. Therefore, it plays a significant role in modern agriculture and plant science research. Traditional manual measurements of phenotypic traits are labor-intensive and inefficient. In contrast, combining 3D reconstruction technologies with autonomous vehicles enables more intuitive and efficient trait acquisition. This study proposes a 3D semantic reconstruction system based on an improved ORB-SLAM3 framework, which is mounted on an unmanned vehicle to acquire phenotypic traits in tomato cultivation scenarios. The vehicle is also equipped with the A * algorithm for autonomous navigation. To enhance the semantic representation of the point cloud map, we integrate the BiSeNetV2 network into the ORB-SLAM3 system as a semantic segmentation module. Furthermore, a two-stage filtering strategy is employed to remove outliers and improve the map accuracy, and OctoMap is adopted to store the point cloud data, significantly reducing the memory consumption. A spherical fitting method is applied to estimate the number of tomato fruits. The experimental results demonstrate that BiSeNetV2 achieves a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 95.37% and a frame rate of 61.98 FPS on the tomato dataset, enabling real-time segmentation. The use of OctoMap reduces the memory consumption by an average of 96.70%. The relative errors when predicting the plant height, canopy width, and volume are 3.86%, 14.34%, and 27.14%, respectively, while the errors concerning the fruit count and fruit volume are 14.36% and 14.25%. Localization experiments on a field dataset show that the proposed system achieves a mean absolute trajectory error (mATE) of 0.16 m and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.21 m, indicating high localization accuracy. Therefore, the proposed system can accurately acquire the phenotypic traits of tomato plants, providing data support for precision agriculture and agricultural decision-making. Full article

Accurate geospatial data are essential for intelligent transportation systems and automated reporting applications, as location precision directly impacts safety analysis and decision-making. GPS devices are now routinely employed by law enforcement officers when filing vehicle crash reports, yet our investigation reveals that significant data quality issues persist. The high apparent precision of GPS coordinates belies their actual accuracy as we find that approximately 20% of crash sites need correction—results consistent with existing research. To address this challenge, we present a novel credibility scoring and correction algorithm that leverages a state-of-the-art multimodal large language model (LLM) capable of integrated visual and textual reasoning. Our framework synthesizes information from structured coordinates, crash diagrams, and narrative text, employing advanced artificial intelligence techniques for comprehensive geospatial validation. In addition to the LLM, our system incorporates open geospatial data from Overture Maps, an emerging collaborative mapping initiative, to enhance the spatial accuracy and robustness of the validation process. This solution was developed as part of research leading to a patent for autonomous vehicle routing systems that require high-precision crash location data. Applied to a dataset of 5000 crash reports, our approach systematically identifies records with location discrepancies requiring correction. By uniting the latest developments in multimodal AI and open geospatial data, our solution establishes a foundation for intelligent data validation in electronic reporting systems, with broad implications for automated infrastructure management and autonomous vehicle applications. Winter wheat yield prediction is critical for optimizing field management plans and guiding agricultural production. To address the limitations of conventional manual yield estimation methods, including low efficiency and poor interpretability, this study innovatively proposes an intelligent yield estimation method based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). A comprehensive two-factor (fertilization × irrigation) controlled field experiment was designed to thoroughly validate the applicability and effectiveness of this method. The experimental design comprised two irrigation treatments, sufficient irrigation (C) at 750 m3 ha−1 and deficit irrigation (M) at 450 m3 ha−1, along with five fertilization treatments (at a rate of 180 kg N ha−1): (1) organic fertilizer alone, (2) organic–inorganic fertilizer blend at a 7:3 ratio, (3) organic–inorganic fertilizer blend at a 3:7 ratio, (4) inorganic fertilizer alone, and (5) no fertilizer control. The experimental protocol employed a DJI M300 RTK unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a multispectral sensor to systematically acquire high-resolution growth imagery of winter wheat across critical phenological stages, from heading to maturity. The acquired multispectral imagery was meticulously annotated using the Labelme professional annotation tool to construct a comprehensive experimental dataset comprising over 2000 labeled images. These annotated data were subsequently employed to train an enhanced CNN model based on ResNet50 architecture, which achieved automated generation of panicle density maps and precise panicle counting, thereby realizing yield prediction. Field experimental results demonstrated significant yield variations among fertilization treatments under sufficient irrigation, with the 3:7 organic–inorganic blend achieving the highest actual yield (9363.38 ± 468.17 kg ha−1) significantly outperforming other treatments (p < 0.05), confirming the synergistic effects of optimized nitrogen and water management. The enhanced CNN model exhibited superior performance, with an average accuracy of 89.0–92.1%, representing a 3.0% improvement over YOLOv8. Notably, model accuracy showed significant correlation with yield levels (p < 0.05), suggesting more distinct panicle morphological features in high-yield plots that facilitated model identification. The CNN’s yield predictions demonstrated strong agreement with the measured values, maintaining mean relative errors below 10%. Particularly outstanding performance was observed for the organic fertilizer with full irrigation (5.5% error) and the 7:3 organic-inorganic blend with sufficient irrigation (8.0% error), indicating that the CNN network is more suitable for these management regimes. These findings provide a robust technical foundation for precision farming applications in winter wheat production. Future research will focus on integrating this technology into smart agricultural management systems to enable real-time, data-driven decision making at the farm scale. Full article

Traditional collision risk warning methods primarily focus on vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, neglecting conflicts between vehicles and vulnerable road users (VRUs) such as pedestrians, while the difficulty in predicting pedestrian trajectories further limits the accuracy of collision warnings. To address this problem, this study proposes a vehicle-to-everything-based (V2X) multi-fusion vehicle–pedestrian collision warning method, aiming to enhance the traffic safety protection for VRUs. First, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle aerial imagery combined with the YOLOv7 and DeepSort algorithms is utilized to achieve target detection and tracking at unsignalized intersections, thereby constructing a vehicle–pedestrian interaction trajectory dataset. Subsequently, key foundational modules for collision warning are developed, including the vehicle trajectory module, the pedestrian trajectory module, and the risk detection module. The vehicle trajectory module is based on a kinematic model, while the pedestrian trajectory module adopts an Attention-based Social GAN (AS-GAN) model that integrates a generative adversarial network with a soft attention mechanism, enhancing prediction accuracy through a dual-discriminator strategy involving adversarial loss and displacement loss. The risk detection module applies an elliptical buffer zone algorithm to perform dynamic spatial collision determination. Finally, a collision warning framework based on the Monte Carlo (MC) method is developed. Multiple sampled pedestrian trajectories are generated by applying Gaussian perturbations to the predicted mean trajectory and combined with vehicle trajectories and collision determination results to identify potential collision targets. Furthermore, the driver perception–braking time (TTM) is incorporated to estimate the joint collision probability and assist in warning decision-making. Simulation results show that the proposed warning method achieves an accuracy of 94.5% at unsignalized intersections, outperforming traditional Time-to-Collision (TTC) and braking distance models, and effectively reducing missed and false warnings, thereby improving pedestrian traffic safety at unsignalized intersections. Understanding automated vehicle (AV) behavior in complex road environments and user attitudes in such contexts is critical for their safe and effective integration into smart cities. Despite growing deployment, limited public data exist on AV performance in construction zones; highly dynamic settings marked by irregular lane markings, shifting detours, and unpredictable human presence. This study investigates AV behavior in these conditions through qualitative, video-based analysis of user-documented experiences on YouTube, focusing on Tesla’s supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Waymo systems. Spoken narration, captions, and subtitles were examined to evaluate AV perception, decision-making, control, and interaction with humans. Findings reveal that while AVs excel in structured tasks such as obstacle detection, lane tracking, and cautious speed control, they face challenges in interpreting temporary infrastructure, responding to unpredictable human actions, and navigating low-visibility environments. These limitations not only impact performance but also influence user trust and acceptance. The study underscores the need for continued technological refinement, improved infrastructure design, and user-informed deployment strategies. By addressing current shortcomings, this research offers critical insights into AV readiness for real-world conditions and contributes to safer, more adaptive urban mobility systems. Full article

Additionally, electric vehicles are highly efficient, with an efficiency of around 90%, in contrast to fossil fuel vehicles, which have an efficiency of about 30% to 35%. The higher energy efficiency of electric vehicles contributes to lower operational costs, which, alongside regulatory incentives and shifting consumer preferences, has increased their strategic importance for many vehicle manufacturers. In this paper, we present a thematic literature review on electric vehicles charging station location planning and scheduling. A systematic literature review across various data sources in the area yielded ninety five research papers for the final review. The research results were analyzed thematically, and three key directions were identified, namely charging station deployment and placement, optimal allocation and scheduling of EV parking lots, and V2G and smart charging systems as the top three themes. Each theme was further investigated to identify key topics, ongoing works, and future trends. It has been found that optimization methods followed by simulation and multi-criteria decision-making are most commonly used for EV infrastructure planning. A multistakeholder perspective is often adopted in these decisions to minimize costs and address the range anxiety of users. The future trend is towards the integration of renewable energy in smart grids, uncertainty modeling of user demand, and use of artificial intelligence for service quality improvement. Full article

The present study adopts the social constructivism theory and consumer decision-making process model with the aim of examining the social identity that consumers build through the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) in line with their income, age, gender, and education. The study’s findings indicate that this social identity, shaped by income, age, gender and education, exerts a significant influence on consumer decision-making behavior. This identity is shaped not only by the make and model of EVs chosen, but also by their preferences for vehicle performance and technical features. The adoption of EVs by consumers is driven by dual objectives: the fulfilment of practical needs and the shaping of social identities in social interactions that correspond to their income, age, gender, and education. The study’s findings are of significant value in understanding the social identity aspirations of consumers in the electric vehicle consumer market, and provide a theoretical foundation for future electric vehicle companies to create products and corporate cultures that meet their target customers, thereby effectively promoting the popularization of electric vehicles. The global shift toward sustainable transportation has gained increasing interest, promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional vehicles as a result of a complex interaction between economic incentives, social dynamics, and environmental imperatives. This study is based on the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) to understand the key factors influencing consumers’ intentions in the Sultanate of Oman toward adopting electric vehicles. It is based on a mixed methodology combining quantitative data from a questionnaire of 448 participants, analyzed using ordinal logistic regression, with qualitative thematic analysis of in-depth interviews with 18 EV owners. Its results reveal that performance expectations, trust in EV technology, and social influence are the strongest predictors of EV adoption intentions in Oman. These findings suggest that some issues related to charging infrastructure, access to maintenance services, and cost-benefit ratio are key considerations that influence consumers’ intention to accept and use EVs. Conversely, recreational motivation is not a statistically significant factor, which suggests that consumers focus on practical and economic motivations when deciding to adopt EVs rather than on their enjoyment of driving the vehicle. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for decision-makers and practitioners to understand public perceptions of electric vehicles, enabling them to design effective strategies to promote the adoption of these vehicles in the emerging sustainable transportation market of the future. With the increasing prevalence of autonomous vehicles (AVs), drivers’ spatial cognition and takeover performance have become critical to traffic safety. This study investigates the effects of landmark salience—specifically visual and structural salience—on drivers’ spatial cognition and takeover behavior in autonomous driving scenarios. Two simulator-based experiments were conducted. Experiment 1 examined the impact of landmark salience on spatial cognition tasks, including route re-cruise, scene recognition, and sequence recognition. Experiment 2 assessed the effects of landmark salience on takeover performance. Results indicated that salient landmarks generally enhance spatial cognition; the effects of visual and structural salience differ in scope and function in autonomous driving scenarios. Landmarks with high visual salience not only improved drivers’ accuracy in making intersection decisions but also significantly reduced the time it took to react to a takeover. In contrast, structurally salient landmarks had a more pronounced effect on memory-based tasks, such as scene recognition and sequence recognition, but showed a limited influence on dynamic decision-making tasks like takeover response. These findings underscore the differentiated roles of visual and structural landmark features, highlighting the critical importance of visually salient landmarks in supporting both navigation and timely takeover during autonomous driving. The results provide practical insights for urban road design, advocating for the strategic placement of visually prominent landmarks at key decision points. This approach has the potential to enhance both navigational efficiency and traffic safety. Full article
