Deep Federated Learning (DFL) revolutionizes machine learning (ML) by enabling collaborative model training across diverse, decentralized data sources without direct data sharing, emphasizing user privacy and data sovereignty. Despite its potential, DFL’s application in sensitive sectors is hindered by challenges in meeting rigorous standards like the GDPR, with traditional setups struggling to ensure compliance and maintain trust. Addressing these issues, our research introduces an innovative Zero Trust-based DFL architecture designed for GDPR compliant systems, integrating advanced security and privacy mechanisms to ensure safe and transparent cross-node data processing. Our base paper proposed the basic GDPR-Compliant DFL Architecture. Now we validate the previously proposed architecture by formally verifying it using High-Level Petri Nets (HLPNs). This Zero Trust-based framework facilitates secure, decentralized model training without direct data sharing. Furthermore, we have also implemented a case study using the MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets to evaluate the existing approach with the proposed Zero Trust-based DFL methodology. Our experiments confirmed its effectiveness in enhancing trust, complying with GDPR, and promoting DFL adoption in privacy-sensitive areas, achieving secure, ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) with transparent and efficient data processing. Autonomous navigation in dynamic, multi-vessel maritime environments presents a formidable challenge, demanding strict adherence to the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs). Conventional approaches often struggle with the dual imperatives of global path optimality and local reactive safety, and they frequently rely on simplistic state representations that fail to capture complex spatio-temporal interactions among vessels. We introduce a novel hybrid reinforcement learning framework, D* Lite + Transformer-Enhanced Soft Actor-Critic (TE-SAC), to overcome these limitations. This hierarchical framework synergizes the strengths of global and local planning. An enhanced D* Lite algorithm generates efficient, long-horizon reference paths at the global level. At the local level, the TE-SAC agent performs COLREGs-compliant tactical maneuvering. The core innovation resides in TE-SAC’s synergistic state encoder, which uniquely combines a Graph Neural Network (GNN) to model the instantaneous spatial topology of vessel encounters with a Transformer encoder to capture long-range temporal dependencies and infer vessel intent. Comprehensive simulations demonstrate the framework’s superior performance, validating the strengths of both planning layers. At the local level, our TE-SAC agent exhibits remarkable tactical intelligence, achieving an exceptional 98.7% COLREGs compliance rate and reducing energy consumption by 15–20% through smoother, more decisive maneuvers. This high-quality local control, guided by the efficient global paths from the enhanced D* Lite algorithm, culminates in a 10–32 percentage point improvement in overall task success rates compared to state-of-the-art baselines. This work presents a robust, verifiable, and efficient framework. By demonstrating superior performance and compliance with rules in high-fidelity simulations, it lays a crucial foundation for advancing the practical application of intelligent autonomous navigation systems. This paper develops empirical relationships to estimate FAA/EASA and MIL-3013B rules-compliant take-off field performance for single and multi-engine aircraft. Recent experience with modern aircraft flight manuals revealed that popular empirical legacy methods are no longer accurate; improvements in tires and brakes lead to significantly shorter certified distances. This work relies upon a survey of current operational aircraft and extensive numerical simulations of generic configurations to support the development of a collection of new equations to estimate take-off performance for single and multi-engine aircraft under dry and wet conditions. These relationships are individually tailored for civilian and U.S. Military rules; they account for the superior capability of modern braking systems and the implications of minimum-control speed on the certified distance. Background: Treatment compliant with the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) can promote more effective disease control. Single-inhaler triple therapy (SITT) is one method that is used to optimize therapy in this context, but TRIPLE therapy is still employed by physicians to a limited extent. Objective: This study aimed to describe the factors influencing challenges in optimizing asthma therapy. Methods: A 19-question survey, created via the CATI system, was distributed among pulmonologists, allergologists, general practitioners, and internal medicine specialists in Poland, Greece, Sweden, Slovenia, and Austria. Results: Statistically significant percentage differences in the use of TRIPLE therapy in the context of asthma management were observed among countries as well as between pulmonologists, allergists, and other specialists. Overuse of oral corticosteroids (OCSs) to treat nonsevere and severe asthma in the absence of an approach that focuses on optimizing inhalation therapy among asthma patients receiving TRIPLE therapy was observed in different countries as well as among physicians with different specialties. Twenty elements associated with the challenges involved in diagnosing and managing difficult-to-treat and severe asthma were identified. Six clinical categories for the optimization of asthma therapy via SITT were highlighted. The degree of therapeutic underestimation observed among severe asthma patients was assessed by comparing actual treatment with the recommendations of the GINA 2023 guidelines. Conclusions: Physicians of various specialties in Europe are subject to therapeutic inertia in terms of their compliance with the GINA 2023 guidelines. Full article

This study presents the design, fabrication, and clinical validation of a lightweight, body-powered prosthetic index finger actuated via metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint motion. The proposed system incorporates an underactuated, cable-driven mechanism combining rigid and compliant elements to achieve passive adaptability and embodied intelligence, supporting intuitive user interaction. Results indicate that the prosthesis successfully mimics natural finger flexion and adapts effectively to a variety of grasping tasks with minimal effort. This study was conducted in accordance with ethical standards and approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Project No. 670161, titled “Biologically-Inspired Synthetic Finger: Design, Fabrication, and Application.” The findings suggest that the device offers a viable and practical solution for individuals with partial hand loss, particularly in settings where electrically powered systems are unsuitable or inaccessible. Surgery remains a healthcare intervention with significant risks for patients. Novel technologies can now enhance the peri-operative workflow, with artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) to assist with pre-operative planning. This review focuses on innovation in AI, XR and imaging for hepato-biliary surgery planning. The clinical challenges in hepato-biliary surgery arise from heterogeneity of clinical presentations, the need for multiple imaging modalities and highly variable local anatomy. AI-based models have been developed for risk prediction and multi-disciplinary tumor (MDT) board meetings. The future could involve an on-demand and highly accurate AI-powered decision tool for hepato-biliary surgery, assisting the surgeon to make the most informed decision on the treatment plan, conferring the best possible outcome for individual patients. Advances in AI can also be used to automate image interpretation and 3D modelling, enabling fast and accurate 3D reconstructions of patient anatomy. Surgical navigation systems utilizing XR are already in development, showing an early signal towards improved patient outcomes when used for hepato-biliary surgery. Live visualization of hepato-biliary anatomy in the operating theatre is likely to improve operative safety and performance. The technological advances in AI and XR provide new applications in pre-operative planning with potential for patient benefit. Their use in surgical simulation could accelerate learning curves for surgeons in training. Future research must focus on standardization of AI and XR study reporting, robust databases that are ethically and data protection-compliant, and development of inter-disciplinary tools for various healthcare applications and systems. Rehabilitation devices such as actuated lower-limb exoskeletons can provide essential mobility assistance for pediatric patients with gait impairments. Enhancing their control systems under conditions of user variability and dynamic disturbances remains a significant challenge, particularly in active-assist modes. This study presents a human-in-the-loop control architecture for a pediatric lower-limb exoskeleton, combining outer-loop admittance control with robust inner-loop trajectory tracking via a non-singular terminal sliding-mode (NSTSM) controller. Designed for active-assist gait rehabilitation in children aged 8–12 years, the exoskeleton dynamically responds to user interaction forces while ensuring finite-time convergence under system uncertainties. To enhance adaptability, we augment the inner-loop control with a twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) reinforcement learning framework. The actor–critic RL agent tunes NSTSM gains in real-time, enabling personalized model-free adaptation to subject-specific gait dynamics and external disturbances. The numerical simulations show improved trajectory tracking, with RMSE reductions of 27.82% (hip) and 5.43% (knee), and IAE improvements of 40.85% and 10.20%, respectively, over the baseline NSTSM controller. The proposed approach also reduced the peak interaction torques across all the joints, suggesting more compliant and comfortable assistance for users. While minor degradation is observed at the ankle joint, the TD3-NSTSM controller demonstrates improved responsiveness and stability, particularly in high-load joints. This research contributes to advancing pediatric gait rehabilitation using RL-enhanced control, offering improved mobility support and adaptive rehabilitation outcomes. Full article

To address the wear life prediction challenge of Guide Cones in passive compliant connectors under dynamic loads within specialized equipment, this study proposes a dynamic wear modeling and life assessment method based on the improved Archard model. Through integrated theoretical modeling, finite element simulation, and experimental validation, we establish a bidirectional coupling framework analyzing dynamic contact mechanics and wear evolution. By developing phased contact state identification criteria and geometric constraints, a transient load calculation model is established, revealing dynamic load characteristics with peak contact forces reaching 206.34 N. A dynamic contact stress integration algorithm is proposed by combining Archard’s theory with ABAQUS finite element simulation and ALE adaptive meshing technology, enabling real-time iterative updates of wear morphology and contact stress. This approach constructs an exponential model correlating cumulative wear depth with docking cycles (R2 = 0.997). Prototype experiments demonstrate a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 14.6% between simulated and measured wear depths, confirming model validity. With a critical wear threshold of 0.8 mm, the predicted service life reaches 45,270 cycles, meeting 50-year operational requirements (safety margin: 50.9%). This research provides theoretical frameworks and engineering guidelines for wear-resistant design, material selection, and life evaluation in high-reliability automatic docking systems. Full article

Traditional wound and burn treatments often fall short in balancing antimicrobial efficacy, patient comfort, and ease of application. This study introduces a novel, transparent, thermoresponsive sol–gel formulation incorporating polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) for advanced topical therapy. Utilizing Poloxamer 407 as a biocompatible carrier, the formulation remains a sprayable liquid at room temperature and instantly gels upon contact with body temperature, enabling painless, pressure-free application on sensitive, injured skin. Comprehensive in vitro and in vivo evaluations confirmed the formulation’s broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy (≥5 log10 reduction in 30 s), high biocompatibility (viability > 70% in fibroblasts), non-irritancy (OECD 425-compliant), and physical stability across three months. Importantly, the formulation maintained fibroblast migration capacity—crucial for wound regeneration—while exhibiting rapid sol-to-gel transition at ~34 °C. These findings highlight the system’s potential as a next-generation wound dressing with enhanced user compliance, transparent monitoring capability, and rapid healing support, particularly in disaster or emergency scenarios. This study presents a next-generation clinical decision-support architecture for Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) focused on emergency triage. By integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), Federated Learning (FL), and low-latency streaming analytics within a modular, privacy-preserving framework, the system addresses key deployment challenges in high-stakes clinical settings. Unlike traditional models, the architecture processes both structured (vitals, labs) and unstructured (clinical notes) data to enable context-aware reasoning with clinically acceptable latency at the point of care. It leverages big data infrastructure for large-scale EHR management and incorporates digital twin concepts for live patient monitoring. Federated training allows institutions to collaboratively improve models without sharing raw data, ensuring compliance with GDPR/HIPAA, and FAIR principles. Privacy is further protected through differential privacy, secure aggregation, and inference isolation. We evaluate the system through two studies: (1) a benchmark of 750+ USMLE-style questions validating the medical reasoning of fine-tuned LLMs; and (2) a real-world case study (n = 132, 75.8% first-pass agreement) using de-identified MIMIC-III data to assess triage accuracy and responsiveness. The system demonstrated clinically acceptable latency and promising alignment with expert judgment on reviewed cases. The infectious disease triage case demonstrates low-latency recognition of sepsis-like presentations in the ED. This work offers a scalable, audit-compliant, and clinician-validated blueprint for CDSS, enabling low-latency triage and extensibility across specialties. Full article

Evaluating a Nationally Localized AI Chatbot for Personalized Primary Care Guidance: Insights from the HomeDOCtor Deployment in Slovenia

Background/Objectives: The demand for accessible and reliable digital health services has increased significantly in recent years, particularly in regions facing physician shortages. HomeDOCtor, a conversational AI platform developed in Slovenia, addresses this need with a nationally adapted architecture that combines retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and a Redis-based vector database of curated medical guidelines. The objective of this study was to assess the performance and impact of HomeDOCtor in providing AI-powered healthcare assistance. Methods: HomeDOCtor is designed for human-centered communication and clinical relevance, supporting multilingual and multimedia citizen inputs while being available 24/7. It was tested using a set of 100 international clinical vignettes and 150 internal medicine exam questions from the University of Ljubljana to validate its clinical performance. Results: During its six-month nationwide deployment, HomeDOCtor received overwhelmingly positive user feedback with minimal criticism, and exceeded initial expectations, especially in light of widespread media narratives warning about the risks of AI. HomeDOCtor autonomously delivered localized, evidence-based guidance, including self-care instructions and referral suggestions, with average response times under three seconds. On international benchmarks, the system achieved ≥95% Top-1 diagnostic accuracy, comparable to leading medical AI platforms, and significantly outperformed stand-alone ChatGPT-4o in the national context (90.7% vs. 80.7%, p = 0.0135). Conclusions: Practically, HomeDOCtor eases the burden on healthcare professionals by providing citizens with 24/7 autonomous, personalized triage and self-care guidance for less complex medical issues, ensuring that these cases are self-managed efficiently. The system also identifies more serious cases that might otherwise be neglected, directing them to professionals for appropriate care. Theoretically, HomeDOCtor demonstrates that domain-specific, nationally adapted large language models can outperform general-purpose models. Methodologically, it offers a framework for integrating GDPR-compliant AI solutions in healthcare. These findings emphasize the value of localization in conversational AI and telemedicine solutions across diverse national contexts. Full article

Improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings is essential for achieving global climate goals and reducing environmental impact. This study analyzes the Total Performance approach using the example of a modern semi-detached house built by a Polish developer, as an example. The building is designed with integrated systems that minimize energy consumption while maintaining resident comfort. The building is equipped with an air-to-water heat pump, underfloor heating, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and automatic temperature control systems. Energy efficiency was assessed using ArCADia–TERMOCAD 8.0 software in accordance with Polish Technical Specifications (TS) and verified by monitoring real-time electricity consumption during the heating season. The results show a PED from non-renewable sources of 54.05 kWh/(m2·year), representing a 23% reduction compared to the Polish regulatory limit of 70 kWh/(m2·year). Real-time monitoring conducted from December 2024 to April 2025 confirmed these results, indicating an actual energy demand of approximately 1771 kWh/year. Domestic hot water (DHW) preparation accounted for the largest share of energy consumption. Despite its dependence on grid electricity, the building has the infrastructure to enable future photovoltaic (PV) installation, offering further potential for emissions reduction. The results confirm that Total Performance strategies are not only compliant with applicable standards, but also economically and environmentally viable. They represent a scalable model for sustainable residential construction, in line with the European Union’s (EU’s) decarbonization policy and the goals of the European Green Deal. Full article

This study investigates the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure on value creation in a balanced panel of 100 non-financial Sharia-compliant firms listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange over the period 2014–2023. The analysis employs a combination of econometric techniques, including fixed effects models with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors, Pooled Ordinary Least Squares (POLS) with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors and industry and year dummies, and two-step system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation to address potential endogeneity and omitted variable bias. Value creation is measured using Tobin’s Q (TBQ), Return on Assets (ROA), and Return on Equity (ROE). The models also control for firm-specific variables such as firm size, leverage, asset tangibility, firm age, growth opportunities, and market capitalization. The findings reveal that ESG disclosure has a positive and statistically significant effect on firm value across all three performance measures. Furthermore, firm size significantly moderates this relationship, with larger Sharia-compliant firms experiencing greater value gains from ESG practices. These results align with agency, stakeholder, and signaling theories, emphasizing the role of ESG in enhancing transparency, reducing information asymmetry, and strengthening stakeholder trust. The study provides empirical evidence relevant to policymakers, investors, and firms striving to achieve Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals. Full article

Blockchain’s immutability, while enhancing transparency and trust, presents challenges when erroneous or sensitive content must be modified. To address this, we propose a novel cryptographic primitive called Time-Modifiable Chameleon Hash (TMCH), enabling controlled and time-modifiable data redaction in blockchain systems. TMCH enhances traditional chameleon hashes by embedding a time parameter into hash generation and verification, and it supports class-adaptive collision computation via a new Update algorithm. We formally define the security model for TMCH and analyze the relationships among uniqueness, indistinguishability (IND), and collision resistance (CR). This paper presents a concrete construction based on the Boneh–Boyen signature scheme and completes its security analysis and proof. Finally, the efficiency and practicality of the proposed scheme are validated through experimental comparisons with existing algorithms. Our results show that relaxing the uniqueness requirement does not compromise overall security, while enabling traceable and time-aware redactions. The proposed TMCH achieves strong security guarantees and practical efficiency, making it well suited for applications such as compliant data redaction and time-sensitive blockchain transactions. LCL (inductor–capacitor–inductor) filters are widely used in grid-connected inverters, particularly in electric vehicle (EV) battery-to-grid systems, for harmonic suppression but introduce resonance issues that compromise stability. This study presents a novel sensorless active damping strategy based on μ-synthesis control for EV batteries connected to the grid via LCL filters, eliminating the need for additional current sensors while preserving harmonic attenuation. A comprehensive state–space and process noise model enables accurate capacitor current estimation using only grid current and point-of-common-coupling (PCC) voltage measurements. The proposed method maintains robust performance under ±60% LCL parameter variations and integrates a proportional-resonant (PR) current controller for resonance suppression. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation demonstrates enhanced stability in dynamic grid conditions, with total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5% (IEEE 1547-compliant) and current tracking error < 0.06 A.
