The objective of this research was to conduct a comprehensive review of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) culture in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), identify knowledge gaps, and propose strategies oriented towards intelligent and sustainable aquaculture. A systematic review and bibliometric analysis of 387 articles published between 1941 and 2025 in the Scopus database was carried out. Since 2011, there has been a sustained growth in scientific production, with the United States, Denmark, Finland, and Germany standing out as the main contributors. The journals with the highest number of publications were Aquacultural Engineering, Aquaculture, and Aquaculture Research. The conceptual analysis revealed the following three thematic clusters: experimental studies on physiology and metabolism; research focused on nutrition, growth, and yield; and technological developments for water treatment in RAS. This evolution reflects a transition from basic approaches to applied technologies oriented towards sustainability. There was also evidence of a thematic transition toward molecular tools such as proteomics, transcriptomics, and real-time PCR. However, there is still limited integration of smart technologies such as the IoT. It is recommended to incorporate self-calibrating multi-parametric sensors, machine learning models, and autonomous systems for environmental regulation in real time. Full article

Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) has been identified as one of the most harmful invasive weed species in Europe due to its allergenic pollen and competitive growth in diverse habitats. In the first part of this review [Common Ragweed—Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.: A Review with Special Regards to the Latest Results in Biology and Ecology], its biological characteristics and ecological behavior were described in detail. In the current paper, control strategies are summarized, focusing on integrated weed management adapted to the specific habitat where the species causes damage—arable land, semi-natural vegetation, urban areas, or along linear infrastructures. A range of management methods is reviewed, including agrotechnical, mechanical, physical, thermal, biological, and chemical approaches. Particular attention is given to the spread of herbicide resistance and the need for diversified, habitat-specific interventions. Among biological control options, the potential of Ophraella communa LeSage, a leaf beetle native to North America, is highlighted. Furthermore, innovative technologies such as UAV-assisted weed mapping, site-specific herbicide application, and autonomous weeding robots are discussed as environmentally sustainable tools. The role of legal regulations and pollen monitoring networks—particularly those implemented in Hungary—is also emphasized. By combining traditional and advanced methods within a coordinated framework, effective and ecologically sound ragweed control can be achieved. Full article

Lidar technology is a key sensor for autonomous driving due to its precise environmental perception. However, adverse weather and atmospheric conditions involving fog, rain, snow, dust, and smog can impair lidar performance, leading to potential safety risks. This paper introduces a comprehensive methodology to simulate lidar systems under such conditions and validate the results against real-world experiments. Existing empirical models for the extinction and backscattering of laser beams are analyzed, and new models are proposed for dust storms and smog, derived using Mie theory. These models are implemented in the CARLA simulator and evaluated using Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2). The simulation methodology introduced allowed the authors to set up test experiments replicating real-world conditions, to validate the models against real-world data available in the literature, and to predict the performance of the lidar system in all weather conditions. This approach enables the development of virtual test scenarios for corner cases representing rare weather conditions to improve robustness and safety in autonomous systems. Full article

Sophisticated energy-harvesting technologies have swiftly progressed, expanding energy supply distribution and leveraging advancements in self-sustaining electronic devices. Despite substantial advancements in friction nanomotors within the last decade, a considerable technical obstacle remains for their flawless incorporation using printed electronics and autonomous devices. Integrating advanced triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) technology with the rapidly evolving field of composite material 3D printing with has resulted in the advancement of three-dimensionally printed TENGs. Triboelectric nanogenerators are an important part of the next generation of portable energy harvesting and sensing devices that may be used for energy harvesting and artificial intelligence tasks. This paper systematically analyzes the continual development of 3D-printed TENGs and the integration of composite materials. The authors thoroughly review the latest material combinations of composite materials and 3D printing techniques for TENGs. Furthermore, this paper showcases the latest applications, such as using a TENG device to generate energy for electrical devices and harvesting energy from human motions, tactile sensors, and self-sustaining sensing gloves. This paper discusses the obstacles in constructing composite-material-based 3D-printed TENGs and the concerns linked to research and methods for improving electrical output performance. The paper finishes with an assessment of the issues associated with the evolution of 3D-printed TENGs, along with innovations and potential future directions in the dynamic realm of composite-material-based 3D-printed TENGs. The urbanization-driven surge in kitchen waste necessitates optimized dry anaerobic digestion (DAD; total solids > 15%). Despite its valorization potential, this technology requires efficiency improvements due to mass transfer constraints. This study evaluated TS effects (15%, 20%, or 25%) on methane production. The TS = 20% system achieved peak cumulative methane yield (405.73 ± 11.71 mL/gVS), exceeding TS = 15% (348.09 ± 12.19 mL/gVS) and TS = 25% (293.08 ± 3.55 mL/gVS). This optimization was attributable to synergistic maintenance of metabolic equilibrium through autonomous pH recovery, rapid VFAs degradation, and enhanced TAN tolerance. Conversely, TS = 25% exhibited impaired mass transfer efficiency under high solids, causing VFAs accumulation, ammonia toxicity, and progressive pH decline to 7.5, indicating system destabilization. Organic degradation analysis confirmed superior conversion efficiency in TS = 20% through dynamic SPS–SPN equilibrium. Microbial analysis revealed enhanced metabolic efficiency via synergistic interactions between acetoclastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogens in TS = 20%. This research provides technical parameters for optimizing methane production in kitchen waste DAD systems. Full article

The acquisition of plant phenotypic traits is essential for selecting superior varieties, improving crop yield, and supporting precision agriculture and agricultural decision-making. Therefore, it plays a significant role in modern agriculture and plant science research. Traditional manual measurements of phenotypic traits are labor-intensive and inefficient. In contrast, combining 3D reconstruction technologies with autonomous vehicles enables more intuitive and efficient trait acquisition. This study proposes a 3D semantic reconstruction system based on an improved ORB-SLAM3 framework, which is mounted on an unmanned vehicle to acquire phenotypic traits in tomato cultivation scenarios. The vehicle is also equipped with the A * algorithm for autonomous navigation. To enhance the semantic representation of the point cloud map, we integrate the BiSeNetV2 network into the ORB-SLAM3 system as a semantic segmentation module. Furthermore, a two-stage filtering strategy is employed to remove outliers and improve the map accuracy, and OctoMap is adopted to store the point cloud data, significantly reducing the memory consumption. A spherical fitting method is applied to estimate the number of tomato fruits. The experimental results demonstrate that BiSeNetV2 achieves a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 95.37% and a frame rate of 61.98 FPS on the tomato dataset, enabling real-time segmentation. The use of OctoMap reduces the memory consumption by an average of 96.70%. The relative errors when predicting the plant height, canopy width, and volume are 3.86%, 14.34%, and 27.14%, respectively, while the errors concerning the fruit count and fruit volume are 14.36% and 14.25%. Localization experiments on a field dataset show that the proposed system achieves a mean absolute trajectory error (mATE) of 0.16 m and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.21 m, indicating high localization accuracy. Therefore, the proposed system can accurately acquire the phenotypic traits of tomato plants, providing data support for precision agriculture and agricultural decision-making. Full article

The evolution of the internet towards supporting time-critical applications, such as industrial cyber-physical systems (CPSs) and autonomous systems, has created an urgent demand for networks capable of providing deterministic, low-latency communication. Autonomous vehicles represent a particularly challenging use case within this domain, requiring both reliability and determinism for massive data streams—a requirement that traditional Ethernet technologies cannot satisfy. This paper addresses this critical gap by proposing a comprehensive scheduling framework based on Time-Aware Shaping (TAS) within the Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standard. The framework features two key contributions: (1) a novel baseline scheduling algorithm that incorporates a sub-flow division mechanism to enhance schedulability for high-bandwidth streams, computing Gate Control Lists (GCLs) via an iterative SMT-based method; (2) a separate heuristic-based computation acceleration algorithm to enable fast, scalable GCL generation for large-scale networks. Through extensive simulations, the proposed baseline algorithm demonstrates a reduction in end-to-end latency of up to 59% compared to standard methods, with jitter controlled at the nanosecond level. The acceleration algorithm is shown to compute schedules for 200 data streams in approximately one second. The framework’s effectiveness is further validated on a real-world TSN hardware testbed, confirming its capability to achieve deterministic transmission with low latency and jitter in a physical environment. This work provides a practical and scalable solution for deploying deterministic communication in complex autonomous and cyber-physical systems. Full article

The integration of artificial intelligence and human decision-making within blockchain systems has raised complex ethical considerations, necessitating the development of comprehensive theoretical frameworks. This research develops a multi-paradigm ethical framework addressing the ethical dimensions of hybrid intelligence—the dynamic interplay between human judgment and artificial intelligence—in the governance of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency systems. Drawing upon complexity theory and institutional theory, this study employs a theory synthesis methodology to investigate inherent paradoxes within hybrid intelligence systems, including how transparency creates new opacities in AI decision-making, decentralization enables centralized control, and algorithmic efficiency undermines ethical sensitivity. Through PRISMA-compliant systematic literature analysis of 50 relevant publications and theoretical synthesis, this research demonstrates how blockchain technology fundamentally redefines hybrid intelligence by establishing novel forms of trust, accountability, and collective decision-making. The framework advances three testable propositions regarding emergent intelligence properties, adaptive capacity, and institutional legitimacy while providing practical governance principles and implementation methodologies for blockchain developers, regulators, and participants. This study contributes theoretically by bridging the fields of complex systems and institutional analysis, integrating complex adaptive systems with institutional legitimacy processes through a multi-paradigm integration methodology. It delivers an ethical framework that addresses accountability distribution in Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, quantifies ethical challenges across major platforms, and offers empirically validated guidelines for balancing algorithmic autonomy with human oversight in decentralized systems. Insect pests remain a major threat to agricultural productivity, particularly in open-field cropping systems where conventional monitoring methods are labor-intensive and lack scalability. This study presents the design, implementation, and field evaluation of a neural network-guided smart trap specifically developed to monitor and selectively capture nocturnal insect pests under real agricultural conditions. The proposed trap integrates light and rain sensors, servo-controlled mechanical gates, and a single-layer perceptron neural network deployed on an ATmega-2560 microcontroller by Microchip Technology Inc. (Chandler, AZ, USA). The perceptron processes normalized sensor inputs to autonomously decide, in real time, whether to open or close the gate, thereby enhancing the selectivity of insect capture. The system features a removable tray containing a food-based attractant and yellow and green LEDs designed to lure target species such as moths and flies from the orders Lepidoptera and Diptera. Field trials were conducted between June and August 2023 in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico, under diverse environmental conditions. Captured insects were analyzed and classified using the iNaturalist platform, with the successful identification of key pest species including Tetanolita floridiana, Synchlora spp., Estigmene acrea, Sphingomorpha chlorea, Gymnoscelis rufifasciata, and Musca domestica, while minimizing the capture of non-target organisms such as Carpophilus spp., Hexagenia limbata, and Chrysoperla spp. Statistical analysis using the Kruskal–Wallis test confirmed significant differences in capture rates across environmental conditions. The results highlight the potential of this low-cost device to improve pest monitoring accuracy, and lay the groundwork for the future integration of more advanced AI-based classification and species recognition systems targeting nocturnal Lepidoptera and other pest insects. Calorific value and moisture content are the key indices to evaluate Caragana pellet fuel’s quality and combustion characteristics. Calorific value is the key index to measure the energy released by energy plants during combustion, which determines energy utilization efficiency. But at present, the determination of solid fuel is still carried out in the laboratory by oxygen bomb calorimetry. This has seriously hindered the ability of large-scale, rapid detection of fuel particles in industrial production lines. In response to this technical challenge, this study proposes using hyperspectral imaging technology combined with various chemometric methods to establish quantitative models for determining moisture content and calorific value in Caragana korshinskii fuel. A hyperspectral imaging system was used to capture the spectral data in the 935–1720 nm range of 152 samples from multiple regions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. For water content and calorific value, three quantitative detection models, partial least squares regression (PLSR), random forest regression (RFR), and extreme learning machine (ELM), respectively, were established, and Monte Carlo cross-validation (MCCV) was chosen to remove outliers from the raw spectral data to improve the model accuracy. Four preprocessing methods were used to preprocess the spectral data, with standard normal variate (SNV) preprocessing performing best on the quantitative moisture content detection model and Savitzky–Golay (SG) preprocessing performing best on the calorific value detection method. Meanwhile, to improve the prediction accuracy of the model to reduce the redundant wavelength data, we chose four feature extraction methods, competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS), successive pojections algorithm (SPA), genetic algorithm (GA), iteratively retains informative variables (IRIV), and combined the three models to build a quantitative detection model for the characteristic wavelengths of moisture content and calorific value of Caragana korshinskii fuel. Finally, a comprehensive comparison of the modeling effectiveness of all methods was carried out, and the SNV-IRIV-PLSR modeling combination was the best for water content prediction, with its prediction set determination coefficient (RP2), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP), and relative percentage deviation (RPD) of 0.9693, 0.2358, and 5.6792, respectively. At the same time, the moisture content distribution map of Caragana fuel particles is established by using this model. The SG-CARS-RFR modeling combination was the best for calorific value prediction, with its RP2, RMSEP, and RPD of 0.8037, 0.3219, and 2.2864, respectively. This study provides an innovative technical solution for Caragana fuel particles’ value and quality assessment. Full article

Globalization has greatly changed the way logistics firms function, improving speed, accuracy, and efficiency in everything from logistic management to warehousing. Robotics and automation technologies driven by artificial intelligence improve warehouse operations’ efficiency and adaptability, allowing warehouses to easily manage a variety of items, packaging kinds, and order profiles. Nevertheless, more research is still needed to fully comprehend how automation has affected logistics and how it has evolved. In addition, to date, no scholarly work has provided a thorough analysis of particular automated logistic process automation strategies used by Lithuanian businesses. Although many of the assessments that are currently available in this field offer valuable insights, they are frequently overly broad. In order to tackle this problem, we conducted a methodical study that attempts to offer a strong and pertinent basis, focusing on the automation of logistics processes that are used in supply chain management together with artificial intelligence. This study’s objective was to examine conditions for increasing logistics automation processes in Lithuanian logistic companies. The novelty of this article is the consideration of the main factors influencing the automation of logistics processes, which include the key drivers of AI-powered warehouse automation processes to evaluate the real level of automation. Background: Iatrogenic nerve injuries (NIs) are an under-recognized complication of urological surgery. Though less common than vascular or organ damage, they may cause lasting sensory and motor deficits, significantly affecting patients’ quality of life. With increasing complexity in pelvic procedures, a consolidated understanding of nerve injuries is essential. Purpose: This review aims to synthesize current knowledge regarding peripheral and autonomic NIs in urological surgery, highlighting mechanisms of injury, associated procedures, preventative strategies, and treatment options. Scope: Focused on common urological interventions such as radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, and reconstructive techniques, the review explores injuries from positional compression, traction, and intraoperative transection to their surgical management. Key Findings: The review categorizes nerve injuries into crush and transection types and details intraoperative signs and repair techniques. Skeletonization of nerves, avoidance of energy devices near neural structures, and prompt end-to-end anastomosis using 7-0 polypropylene are central to management. Adoption of novel sutureless nerve coaptation devices have also been described with promising outcomes. Early repair offers a better prognosis. New intraoperative technologies like NeuroSAFE during robotic-assisted procedures may enhance nerve preservation. Conclusion: Iatrogenic NIs, although rare, are clinically significant and often preventable. Prompt intraoperative recognition and repair are critical. Further research is warranted to develop standardized preventative protocols and enhance intraoperative nerve monitoring. A multidisciplinary approach, extended across surgical specialties, could improve outcomes and guide timely treatment of nerve injuries. Full article

While electric unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer advantages in noise reduction, safety, and operational efficiency, their endurance is limited by current battery technology. Extending flight autonomy without compromising performance is a critical challenge in UAV system development. Previous studies introduced hybrid micro-turbogenerator architectures, but limitations in control stability and output power constrained their practical implementation. This study aimed to finalize the design and experimental validation of an optimized hybrid power system featuring a micro-turboprop engine mechanically coupled to an upgraded electric generator. A fuzzy logic-based control algorithm was implemented on a single-board computer to enable autonomous voltage regulation. The test bench architecture was reinforced and instrumented to allow stable multi-stage testing across increasing power levels. Results demonstrated stable voltage control at 48 VDC and electrical power outputs up to 3 kW, with an estimated maximum of 3.5 kW at full throttle. Efficiency was calculated at approximately 67%, and analysis of the generator’s KV constant revealed that using a lower KV variant (KV80) could reduce required rotational speed (RPM) and improve performance. These findings underscore the value of adaptive hybridization in UAVs and suggest that tuning generator electromechanical parameters can significantly enhance overall energy efficiency and platform autonomy. Robotics has emerged as a transformative discipline at the intersection of the engineering, computer science, and cognitive sciences. This state-of-the-art review explores the current trends, methodologies, and challenges in both robotics research and education. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the evolution of robotics, tracing its development from early automation to intelligent, autonomous systems. Key enabling technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), soft robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and swarm intelligence, are examined along with real-world applications in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and sustainable smart cities. A central focus is placed on robotics education, where hands-on, interdisciplinary learning is reshaping curricula from K–12 to postgraduate levels. This paper analyzes instructional models including project-based learning, laboratory work, capstone design courses, and robotics competitions, highlighting their effectiveness in developing both technical and creative competencies. Widely adopted platforms such as the Robot Operating System (ROS) are briefly discussed in the context of their educational value and real-world alignment. Through case studies, institutional insights, and synthesis of academic and industry practices, this review underscores the vital role of robotics education in fostering innovation, systems thinking, and workforce readiness. The paper concludes by identifying the key challenges and future directions to guide researchers, educators, industry stakeholders, and policymakers in advancing robotics as both technological and educational frontiers. Air quality monitoring systems based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology are critical for addressing environmental and public health challenges, but their energy efficiency poses a significant challenge to their autonomous and scalable deployment. This study investigates strategies to enhance the energy efficiency of IoT-based air quality monitoring systems. A comprehensive analysis of sensor types, data transmission protocols, and system architectures was conducted, focusing on their energy consumption. An energy-efficient system was designed using the Smart Air sensor, Zigbee gateway, and Mini UPS, with its performance evaluated through daily energy consumption, backup operation time, and annual energy use. An integrated efficiency index (IEI) was introduced to compare sensor models based on functionality, energy efficiency, and cost. The proposed system achieves a daily energy consumption of 72 W·h, supports up to 10 h of autonomous operation during outages, and consumes 26.28 kW·h annually. The IEI analysis identified the Ajax LifeQuality as the most energy-efficient sensor, while Smart Air offers a cost-effective alternative with broader functionality. The proposed architecture and IEI provide a scalable and sustainable framework for IoT air quality monitoring, with potential applications in smart cities and residential settings.
