Systemic Sclerosis with Interstitial Lung Disease: Identification of Novel Immunogenetic Markers and Ethnic Specificity in Kazakh Patients

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder characterized by vascular abnormalities, immune dysfunction, and progressive fibrosis. One of the most common manifestations of SSc is interstitial lung disease (ILD), known by a progressive course leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Aim: to investigate autoantibodies, cytokines, and genetic markers in SSc-ILD through a systematic review and analysis of a Kazakh cohort of SSc-ILD patients. Methods: A PubMed search over the past 10 years was performed with “SSc-ILD”, “autoantibodies”, “cytokines”, and “genes”. Thirty patients with SSc were assessed for lung involvement, EScSG score, and modified Rodnan skin score. IL-6 was measured by ELISA, antinuclear factor on HEp-2 cells by indirect immunofluorescence, and specific autoantibodies by immunoblotting. Genetic analysis was performed using a 120-gene AmpliSeq panel on the Ion Proton platform. Results: The literature review identified 361 articles, 26 addressed autoantibodies, 20 genetic variants, and 12 cytokine profiles. Elevated levels of IL-6, TGF-β, IL-33, and TNF-α were linked to SSc. Based on the results of the systemic review, we created a preliminary immunogenic panel for SSc-ILD with following analysis in Kazakh patients with SSc (n = 30). Fourteen of them (46.7%) demonstrated signs of ILD and/or lung hypertension, with frequent detection of antibodies such as Scl-70, U1-snRNP, SS-A, and genetic variants in SAMD9L, REL, IRAK1, LY96, IL6R, ITGA2B, AIRE, TREX1, and CD40 genes. Conclusions: Current research confirmed the presence of the broad range of autoantibodies and variations in IRAK1, TNFAIP3, SAMD9L, REL, IRAK1, LY96, IL6R, ITGA2B, AIRE, TREX1, CD40 genes in of Kazakhstani cohort of SSc-ILD patients. Nogo-A and NfL Levels in CSF from Newly Diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder Patients Positive for Anti-HHV6-A IgG Autoantibody

Background: Agents responsible for the initiation of autoimmune responses are still under investigation. The aim of this study was to determine Nogo-A and NfL levels in CSF samples from newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and pseudotumour cerebri (PTC) patients positive for HHV6-A IgG autoantibody. Methods: Initial CSF samples from 42 patients were analysed by ELISA. Independent samples t tests, Mann–Whitney U tests, crosstabulation with Fisher’s exact tests and Pearson/Spearman correlation analyses were used for group comparisons. Results: Anti-HHV6A IgG positivity was highest in MS, followed by NMOSD and then PTC (6.7%), but no significant difference in positivity was found among the groups (p = 0.367). No significant difference was found among the groups for NfL or Nogo-A levels (p = 0.373, p = 0.975, respectively). Anti-HHV6A negative MS cases had lower Nogo-A levels than positive cases (p = 0.046). In addition, anti-HHV6A negative PTC cases had lower Nogo-A levels than positive cases (p = 0.015). Anti-HHV6A positive MS patients had lower Nogo-A levels than the PTC positive group and this difference was very close to significant (p = 0.063). Conclusions: Anti-HHV6A positivity was found mainly in the MS group. Anti-HHV6A was found to be associated with Nogo-A levels, especially in the MS and PTC groups. Anti-HHV6A autoantibodies might play a role in the pathophysiology of MS. Full article

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovarian morphology, and low-grade inflammation accompanied by oxidative stress and increased autoimmune risk, particularly Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Many studies have examined thyroid autoantibodies—anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO) and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (anti-TG)—in PCOS; however, observed differences in baseline thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and body mass indices (BMIs) impede a direct interpretation of the results. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the available evidence on the prevalence and levels of anti-TPO and anti-TG in women with PCOS. We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Embase, which yielded 40 eligible, observational studies including 6045 women with PCOS and 4527 controls. Subgroup analyses were conducted separately for TSH- and BMI-matched populations. Anti-TPO prevalence (odds ratio [OR] = 2.03; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.35–3.04; p = 0.0006) and levels (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.37–0.88; p < 0.00001) were significantly higher in PCOS patients. Anti-TG prevalence (OR = 1.92; 95% CI: 1.23–3.01; p = 0.004) and levels (SMD = 0.41; 95% CI: 0.18–0.64; p = 0.0004) were also significantly elevated. In matched subgroups, prevalence differences were no longer significant, though anti-TPO levels remained significantly elevated and anti-TG levels were borderline significant in the TSH-matched subgroup of PCOS women. Although differences in thyroid autoantibody prevalence in women with PCOS appear to be driven by elevated TSH levels and BMIs, the persistently increased antibody levels in the majority of matched subgroups suggest that PCOS itself may contribute independently to heightened autoimmune activation. Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare systemic vasculitis with eosinophilic inflammation and variable clinical presentations. Although skin manifestations are frequent, current classification criteria do not include them, which may underestimate their diagnostic value. This prospective observational study aimed to assess systemic and skin involvement as well as eosinophilia, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA), and Anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) serum levels in 20 EGPA patients followed for one year at the University Hospital of Messina, Italy, before starting Mepolizumab, 300 mg. Eosinophilia, ANCA status, systemic and skin involvement were also evaluated at 6 and 12 months; a literature review on these data supplements our findings. Skin involvement was present in 55% of patients, including purpura, urticarial vasculitis, angioedema, maculopapular rash, and nodules, mostly in ANCA-negative patients, though purpura was more frequent in ANCA-positive cases but without any statistically significant correlation. ANAs were present in 50% of patients, together with ANCA in two subjects and without in eight. Mepolizumab significantly reduced eosinophil levels, BVASs, and corticosteroid dependence, with notable improvement in skin symptoms. In conclusion, skin manifestations are common in EGPA and may represent useful indicators of disease activity. Their integration with ANCA status, eosinophil counts, and positivity to other autoantibodies could enhance diagnostic and monitoring strategies identifying different clusters of EGPA patients even if the small sample size limits the generalizability of the findings. Anti-Ku antibodies are rare autoantibodies associated with connective tissue diseases (CTDs), but their clinical significance remains poorly understood due to limited studies. Semi-quantitative immunodot assays yield positive, negative, or borderline results, with the clinical relevance of borderline findings remaining unclear. The purpose of this study is to characterize the clinical spectrum of anti-Ku-positive patients and evaluate the clinical significance of anti-Ku-borderline results in CTD management. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at Hôpital Erasme, including all patients with anti-Ku-positive or borderline results, over a 10-year period. Clinical and biological data were collected from medical records and analyzed for disease associations, organ involvement, and outcomes. Among 47 anti-Ku-positive patients, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) were the most common diagnoses. Interstitial lung disease (ILD) occurred in 23.4% and renal involvement in 12.8% of patients. Cytopenia was significantly associated with glomerulonephritis. Organ damage, particularly pulmonary and renal involvement, correlated with increased mortality. In the borderline group (n = 33), SLE and SS remained the predominant diagnoses. During follow-up, three patients died (all with isolated ILD without associated CTD), one required chronic dialysis, and one underwent lung transplantation. ILD was present in 7/22 (31.8%) borderline patients, and renal involvement in 7/32 (21.9%). This study demonstrates significant associations between anti-Ku antibodies and organ damage, with increased mortality risk. The high prevalence of pulmonary and renal involvement in anti-Ku-borderline patients suggests that these results carry substantial clinical significance and should prompt comprehensive CTD evaluation. These findings support treating borderline anti-Ku results with the same clinical vigilance as positive results, given their similar association with severe organ involvement and adverse outcomes. Background: Anti-synthetase Syndrome (ASyS) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy characterized by muscle weakness and inflammatory infiltrates in muscles. Sjogren’s disease (SD) is an autoimmune condition primarily affecting exocrine glands. Both these conditions may present lung involvement. We describe a female patient with anti-synthetase/SD overlap syndrome and review the literature to identify published cases describing this overlap, aiming to better define its clinical, radiological, and serological features. Methods: The case description was based on a retrospective collection of clinical, laboratory, and imaging data related to the patient’s diagnostic process and clinical course. Data were anonymized and handled in accordance with the competent territorial Ethics Committee. A literature review was performed using the MEDLINE and Scopus databases by combining the keywords “Anti-Synthetase syndrome”, “Sjögren disease”, “Sjögren syndrome”, “Myositis”, and “Interstitial lung disease” (ILD). Published cases were selected if they met the 2016 EULAR/ACR criteria for SD and at least one of the currently proposed classification criteria for ASyS. Results: The described case concerns a 68-year-old woman with rapidly progressive ILD. The diagnosis of anti-synthetase/SD overlap syndrome was based on clinical, serological (anti-Ro52 and anti-PL7 antibodies), histological, and radiological findings. Despite immunosuppressive and antifibrotic treatment, the clinical course worsened, leading to a poor outcome. In addition, six relevant cases were identified in the literature. Clinical presentations, autoantibody profiles, radiological findings, and outcomes were highly heterogeneous. Among the reported cases, no standardized treatment protocols were adopted, reflecting the lack of consensus in managing this rare condition. Conclusions: In anti-synthetase/SD overlap syndrome, ILD may follow a rapidly progressive course. Early recognition can be challenging, especially in the absence of muscular involvement. This case-based review highlights the need for more standardized approaches to the diagnosis and management of this rare and complex overlap syndrome. Full article

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a severe autoimmune disease characterized by autoantibody production and multi-organ involvement. Anifrolumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the type I interferon (IFN) receptor, has been approved for the treatment of SLE. Our aim was to investigate the long-term effects of inhibited type I IFN signaling on circulating follicular helper T subsets (TFH), follicular regulatory T cells (TFR), and B lymphocyte subpopulations, reflecting the ongoing germinal center reactions in SLE patients. Peripheral blood samples were obtained from ten SLE patients before the initiation of anifrolumab treatment, and at months 6 and 12 of the intervention period. Flow cytometry analysis was performed to assess the frequencies of circulating TFH cell subsets, TFR cells, and certain B cell subpopulations. Serological parameters, including autoantibody levels and complement components, were determined as part of the routine diagnostic evaluation. We observed a significant and sustained reduction in the percentage of activated circulating TFH cells. Notably, the frequency of CXCR3CCR6+ TFH17 cells decreased, whereas the proportion of CXCR3+CCR6 TFH1 cells increased significantly. Furthermore, the proportion of the IgDCD27 double-negative B lymphocytes was also significantly reduced. These findings suggest that anifrolumab therapy attenuates TFH cell activation, which may contribute to its clinical efficacy by modulating germinal center responses in SLE. Full article

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has led to a wide range of acute and chronic disease manifestations. While most infections are mild, a significant number of patients develop severe illness marked by respiratory failure, thromboinflammation, and multi-organ dysfunction. In addition, post-acute sequelae—commonly known as long-COVID—can persist for months. Recent studies have identified the emergence of diverse autoantibodies in COVID-19, including those targeting nuclear antigens, phospholipids, type I interferons, cytokines, endothelial components, and G-protein-coupled receptors. These autoantibodies are more frequently detected in patients with moderate to severe disease and have been implicated in immune dysregulation, vascular injury, and persistent symptoms. This review examines the underlying immunological mechanisms driving autoantibody production during SARS-CoV-2 infection—including molecular mimicry, epitope spreading, and bystander activation—and discusses their functional roles in acute and post-acute disease. We further explore the relevance of autoantibodies in maternal–fetal immunity and comorbid conditions such as autoimmunity and cancer, and we summarize current and emerging therapeutic strategies. A comprehensive understanding of SARS-CoV-2-induced autoantibodies may improve risk stratification, inform clinical management, and guide the development of targeted immunomodulatory therapies. Background: Antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) serve as crucial biomarkers for diagnosing systemic autoimmune diseases; however, their interpretation can be complex and may not always correlate with clinical symptoms. Methods: A comprehensive narrative review was conducted to evaluate the peer-reviewed literature published between 1961 and 2025. Databases, including PubMed and Scopus, were searched using combinations of controlled vocabulary and free-text terms relating to antinuclear antibodies and their clinical significance. The objective was to gather and synthesize information regarding the diagnostic utility and interpretation of ANA testing in routine medical practice. Discussion: The indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIF) on HEp-2 cells is established as the gold standard for detecting ANAs, facilitating the classification of various fluorescent patterns. While a positive ANA test can suggest autoimmune disorders, the presence and titre must be interpreted alongside clinical findings, as low titres often lack diagnostic significance. Findings indicate that titres higher than 1:160 may provide greater specificity in differentiating true positives from false positives in healthy individuals. The study also emphasizes the relevance of fluorescence patterns, with specific patterns linked to particular diseases, although many do not have strong clinical correlations. Moreover, certain autoantibodies demonstrate high specificity for diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). Ultimately, while ANA testing is invaluable for diagnosing connective tissue diseases, healthcare providers must consider its limitations to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatment. Conclusions: ANA testing is a valuable tool in the diagnosis of connective tissue diseases, but its interpretation must be approached with caution. Clinical context remains crucial when evaluating ANA results to avoid misdiagnosis and overtreatment. This review is about the diagnostic aspects and clinical consequences of ANA testing, as well as highlighting both the diagnostic benefits and the potential limitations of this procedure in everyday clinical practice. The review fills a gap in the literature by integrating the diagnostic and clinical aspects of ANA testing, with a focus on real-world interpretation challenges. Full article

Background and Clinical Significance: Antisynthetase syndrome (ASyS) is a rare autoimmune entity defined by the presence of anti-aminoacyl-t ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthetase autoantibodies and classically associated with a triad of interstitial lung disease (ILD), inflammatory myopathy, and arthritis. Additional clinical features may include Raynaud’s phenomenon and “mechanic’s hands”. Among antisynthetase antibodies, anti-PL-12 is notably associated with predominant or isolated ILD and may occur in the absence of clinically evident myositis, thereby complicating timely diagnosis. Case Presentation: We are presenting a 45-year-old non-smoking female patient with a prior diagnosis of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who developed progressive dyspnea, dry cough, and sicca symptoms. High-resolution computed tomography revealed a nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) pattern. Despite normal creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase levels, serological work-up revealed positive anti-PL-12 and anti-Ro52 antibodies, supporting a diagnosis of antisynthetase syndrome without myositis, fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for ASyS per Connors and Solomon. Treatment with corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide induced clinical and functional respiratory improvement, while azathioprine was initiated for maintenance. Conclusions: This case underscores the clinical heterogeneity of antisynthetase syndrome and highlights the diagnostic challenge posed by anti-PL-12–associated ILD in the absence of myositis. Importantly, it demonstrates that in patients with pre-existing rheumatologic diagnoses, the emergence of atypical pulmonary manifestations warrants repeat serologic evaluation to assess ASyS and other autoimmune conditions. Early diagnosis and immunosuppressive treatment are essential to optimize outcomes. Full article

Background: Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are the main suppressor cells that maintain immune tolerance and prevent autoimmunity. Changes in Treg number or function are implicated in a wide range of autoimmune and inflammatory (AI/I) diseases, with or without underlying inborn errors of immunity (IEI). Understanding the phenotypic profiles of Treg subsets and their associations with immune dysregulation is crucial to identifying potential robust and holistic biomarkers for disease activity. Methods: We examined peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 40 patients diagnosed with various autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, including those with genetically confirmed inborn errors of immunity (IEIs), and compared these samples to those from 38 healthy controls of the same age. Utilizing multiparametric flow cytometry, we measured multiple Treg sub-populations and investigated their correlations with lymphocyte subset profiles and the diversity of autoantibodies. We applied advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, such as t-SNE, k-means clustering, and ROC analysis, to analyze immunophenotypic patterns in the patients. Results: Among all Treg sub-populations, only CD4+CD127lowCD25highFOXP3+ Tregs showed a significant decrease in patients compared to healthy controls (p < 0.05), while other Treg phenotypes did not differ. FOXP3 expression showed reduced intensity in patients and demonstrated diagnostic potential (AUC = 0.754). Notably, this Treg subset negatively correlated with CD19+ B cell percentages and positively correlated with the diversity of circulating autoantibodies. Unsupervised clustering revealed three distinct immunophenotypic profiles, highlighting heterogeneity among patients and underlining FOXP3-centered immune dysregulation. Conclusions: Our results presented that patients have an impairment in the CD4+CD127lowCD25highFOXP3+ regulatory T cell subset, which is identified by significantly decreased frequency and decreased expression of FOXP3. Immunological heterogeneity among patients was further uncovered by unsupervised clustering, highlighting the critical role that FOXP3-centered regulatory failure plays in the pathophysiology of illness. The combined evaluation of these three immunological factors, centered around FOXP3, holds promise as an integrative tool for monitoring disease progression across various autoimmune and immunodeficient contexts. Cadmium is widely recognized as an important environmental toxicant that may give rise to kidney dysfunction, bone disease, and cancer in humans and animals. Kidney dysfunction occurs at very low exposures and is often considered as the most sensitive or critical effect. Cadmium exposures of concern occur in many countries. In low- and middle-income countries with small-scale mining, excessive exposure to cadmium and other metals occurs in occupational and environmental settings. This is of particular importance in view of the growing demand for metals in global climate change mitigation. Since the 1970s, the present authors have contributed evidence concerning the role of metallothionein and other factors in influencing the toxicokinetics and toxicity of cadmium, particularly as it relates to the development of adverse effects on kidneys in humans and animals. The findings gave a background to the development of biomarkers employed in epidemiological studies, demonstrating the important role of metallothionein in protection against cadmium-induced kidney dysfunction in humans. Studies in cadmium-exposed population groups demonstrated how biomarkers of kidney dysfunction changed during 8 years after drastic lowering of environmental cadmium exposure. Other epidemiological studies showed the impact of a good zinc status in lowering the prevalence of cadmium-related kidney dysfunction. Increased susceptibility to Cd-induced kidney dysfunction was shown in a population with high exposure to inorganic arsenic when compared with a group with low such exposure. Several national and international organizations have used part of the reviewed information, but the metallothionein-related biomarkers and the interaction effects have not been fully considered. We hope that these data sets will also be included and improve risk assessments and preventive measures. Full article

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is characterized by autoimmune dysregulation, elevated autoantibody production, and persistent inflammation, predisposing patients to atherosclerosis (AS). Atherogenesis is dependent on lipid homeostasis and inflammatory processes, with the formation of lipid-laden, macrophage-derived foam cells (MDFC) essential for atherosclerotic lesion progression. Elevated cholesterol levels within lipid rafts trigger heightened pro-inflammatory responses in macrophages via Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9). Artesunate (ART), an artemisinin derivative sourced from Artemisia annua, exhibits therapeutic potential in modulating inflammation and autoimmune conditions. Nonetheless, its impact and mechanisms in SLE-associated AS (SLE-AS) remain largely unexplored. Our investigation demonstrated that ART could effectively ameliorate lupus-like symptoms and atherosclerotic plaque development in SLE-AS mice. Moreover, ART enhanced cholesterol efflux from MDFC by upregulating ABCA1, ABCG1, and SR-B1 both in vivo and in vitro. Moreover, ART reduced cholesterol accumulation in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs), thereby diminishing TLR9 recruitment to lipid rafts. ART also suppressed TLR9 expression and its downstream effectors in the kidney and aorta of SLE-AS mice, attenuating the TLR9-mediated inflammatory cascade in CPG2395 (ODN2395)-stimulated macrophages. Through bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation, PPARγ was identified as a pivotal downstream mediator of ART in macrophages. Depleting PPARγ levels reduced the expression of ABCA1, ABCG1, and SR-B1 in macrophages, consequently impeding cholesterol efflux. In conclusion, these findings suggest that ART ameliorates SLE-AS by restoring cholesterol homeostasis through the PPARγ-ABCA1/ABCG1/SR-B1 pathway and suppressing lipid raft-driven TLR9/MyD88 inflammation. Background/Objectives: Elevated troponin levels are widely recognized as key biomarkers of myocardial injury and are frequently used in clinical decision making. However, not all instances of troponin elevation indicate true cardiac damage. In some cases, biochemical or immunological interferences may lead to false-positive results. These situations may lead to unnecessary diagnostic interventions and clinical uncertainty, ultimately impacting patient management negatively. This study aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms of false-positive troponin elevation in pediatric patients, focusing on factors such as macrotroponin formation, autoantibodies, and heterophile antibody interference. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data from 13 pediatric patients who presented with elevated cardiac troponin levels between 2017 and 2024. Clinical evaluations included transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), electrocardiography (ECG), coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and rheumatologic testing. Laboratory findings included measurements of cardiac troponins (cTnI and hs-cTnT) and pro-BNP levels. Results: Among 70 patients evaluated for elevated troponin levels, 13 (18.6%) were determined to have no identifiable cardiac etiology. The median age of these 13 patients was 13.0 years (range: 9–16), with 53.8% being female. The most common presenting complaints were chest pain (53.8%) and palpitations (30.8%). TTE findings were normal in 61.5% of the patients, and all patients had normal coronary CTA and cardiac MRI findings. Although initial troponin I levels were elevated in all cases, persistent positivity was observed up to 12 months. Median cTnI levels were 1.00 ng/mL (range: 0.33–7.19) at week 1 and 0.731 ng/mL (range: 0.175–4.56) at month 12. PEG precipitation testing identified macrotroponin in three patients (23.1%). No etiological explanation could be identified in 10 cases (76.9%), which were considered idiopathic. All patients had negative results for heterophile antibody and rheumatologic tests. Conclusions: When interpreting elevated troponin levels in children, biochemical interferences—especially macrotroponin—should not be overlooked. This study emphasizes the diagnostic uncertainty associated with non-cardiac troponin elevation. To better guide clinical practice and clarify false positivity rates, larger, multicenter prospective studies are needed. Full article

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by tissue damage in multiple organs caused by autoantibodies and the resulting immune complexes. One possible way for complement system contribution to onset of autoimmune disorder could be realized by the impairment of C1q-mediated apoptotic clearance as part of human homeostasis. The capacity of C1q to bind early apoptotic cells could be decreased or even lost in the presence of anti-C1q antibodies. A monoclonal anti-idiotypic single-chain (scFv) antibody was selected from the phage library Griffin1” to recognize anti-C1q autoantibodies, purified from sera of lupus nephritis patients. Lupus-prone MRL/lpr mice were injected weekly with scFv A1 fragment-binding anti-C1q antibodies. The number of in vitro and ex vivo studies with collected cells, sera, and organs from the treated animals was performed. scFv treatment changed the percentage of different B-, T-, and NK-cell subpopulations as well as plasma cells and plasmablasts in the spleen and bone marrow. An increase in the levels of splenocyte proliferation, anti-C1q antibodies, and the number of plasma cells producing anti-dsDNA and anti-C1q antibodies were also observed in scFv-treated animals. High levels of proteinuria and hematuria combined with unstable levels of IL10 and IFNγ promote the development of severe lupus and shorten the survival of treated MRL/lpr mice. Therapy with the scFv A1 antibody resulted in BCR recognition on the surface of anti-C1q-specific B-cells and had a disease progression effect, enhancing lupus symptoms in the MRL/lpr mouse model of SLE.
