Integrating BIM curriculum into traditional construction management (CM) programs is essential to meet the increasing industry demand for BIM-ready graduates. However, academia struggles with BIM curriculum integration due to unfamiliar emerging BIM technologies, and the increased workload associated with curriculum transformation. Disciplines including nursing, health science, and medical overcame the same challenges using the ability-desire-knowledge-ability-reinforcement (ADKAR) change management model, while CM programs have not explored this model for BIM curriculum development. Thus, this research introduces the ADKAR change management lens to BIM curriculum development by proposing a practically modified and replicable ADKAR model for CM programs. Focus group interviews with 14 academics from the UK, USA, Korea, and Australia, revealed establishing a sense of urgency by appointing a BIM champion is the most critical step before the BIM curriculum development. Instant advice demystifying uncertain BIM concepts is recognised the most effective motivation among academia. Well-balanced BIM concept integrations is ‘sine qua non’ since excessively saturating BIM aspects across the program can dilute students’ essential domain knowledge. Students’ evaluation over the BIM curriculum were collected through a six-year longitudinal focus group interviews, revealing that progressive BIM learnings scaffolded from foundational concepts to advanced applications throughout their coursework is the most valuable. The present study aimed to standardize germinated oat extracts (GOEs) by profiling avenanthramides (AVNs) and phenolic acids and evaluate their neuroprotective effects against Aβ1-42-induced cytotoxicity in human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells. GOEs were standardized to contain 1652.56 ± 3.37 µg/g dry weight (dw) of total AVNs, including 468.52 ± 17.69 µg/g AVN A, 390.33 ± 10.26 µg/g AVN B, and 641.22 ± 13.89 µg/g AVN C, along with 490.03 ± 7.83 µg/g dw of ferulic acid, using a validated analytical method. Treatment with AVN C and GOEs significantly inhibited Aβ1-42-induced cytotoxicity (p < 0.05). Furthermore, both AVNs and GOEs markedly reduced Aβ1-42-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in SH-SY5Y cells, showing significant scavenging activity at concentrations of 25 μg/mL (AVNs) and 50 μg/mL (GOEs) (p < 0.05). RT-PCR analysis revealed that AVNs and GOEs effectively downregulated the expression of inflammation- and apoptosis-related genes triggered by Aβ1-42 exposure. These findings suggest that GOEs rich in AVNs may serve as a potential functional ingredient for enhancing memory function through the inhibition of neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. Objectives: This study assessed the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based fine dust education program, grounded in the Health Belief Model (HBM), on elementary students’ fine dust knowledge, related behaviors, and mental health (depression, anxiety, stress, sleep quality). Methods: From September to November 2024, 95 students (grades 4–6) living near a coal-fired power plant in midwestern South Korea were assigned to either an intervention group (n = 44) or a control group (n = 51). The intervention group completed a three-session CBT-based education program; the control group received stress management education. Assessments were conducted at weeks 1, 2, 4, and 8 using standardized mental health and behavior scales (PHQ: Patient Health Questionnaire, GAD: Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment, PSS: Perceived Stress Scale, ISI: Insomnia Severity Index). Results: A chi-square test was conducted to compare pre- and post-test changes in knowledge and behavior related to PM2.5. The intervention group showed significant improvements in seven fine dust-related knowledge and behavior items (e.g., PM2.5 awareness rose from 33.3% to 75.0%; p < 0.05). The control group showed limited gains. Regarding mental health, based on a mixed-design ANCOVA, anxiety scores significantly declined over time in the intervention group, with group and interaction effects also significant (p < 0.05). Depression scores showed time effects, but group and interaction effects were not significant. No significant changes were observed for stress, sleep, or group × PM2.5 interactions. Conclusions: The CBT-based education program effectively enhanced fine dust knowledge, health behaviors, and reduced anxiety among students. It presents a promising, evidence-based strategy to promote environmental and mental health in school-aged children. Full article

Background/Objectives: Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is a well-known complication of laparoscopic pylorus-preserving gastrectomy (LPPG). Patients who underwent LPPG in the KLASS-04 trial, which was a multicenter prospective randomized control trial comparing LPPG and laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG), showed an unneglectable incidence of long-term DGE compared to patients who underwent LDG. This study aimed to identify the multifactorial risk factors associated with DGE and to analyze the quality of life (QoL) of patients with DGE following LPPG. Methods: DGE was defined as “nearly normal diet residue” at least once in the endoscopic follow-up at 1, 2, and 3 years after the surgery. Clinicopathological features, surgical outcomes, and QoL were compared between the DGE and non-DGE groups. Results: DGE was observed in 21/124 patients (16.3%) who underwent LPPG. Patients without previous abdominal surgery had a higher incidence of DGE in the univariate (32% vs. 4.8%, p = 0.011) and logistic regression analyses (odds ratio: 0.106, 95% confidence interval: 0.014–0.824, p = 0.032). Patients with DGE reported more symptoms of nausea and vomiting (p = 0.004), constipation (p = 0.04), and a dry mouth (p = 0.005). Conclusions: Despite the strict protocol used to avoid well-known risk factors for DGE, such as damage to the hepatic branch of the vagus nerve, infrapyloric artery and vein, and short antral cuff, the LPPG group of the KLASS-04 trial exhibited a considerable incidence of DGE. No clinicopathological or surgical factors, other than the absence of a previous surgical history, were identified as multifactorial risk factors for DGE. However, DGE had a negative impact on the QoL of patients. Full article

In outdoor environments, GNSS is commonly used for vehicle navigation and various location-based ITS services. However, in GNSS shadow roads such as tunnels and underground highways, it is challenging to provide these services. With the rapid expansion of GNSS shadow roads, the need for radio positioning technology that can serve the role of GNSS in these areas has become increasingly important to provide accurate vehicle navigation and various location-based ITS services. This paper proposes a new GNSS shadow road radio positioning technology using multidirectional BLE beacon signals. The structure of a multidirectional BLE beacon that radiates different BLE beacon signals in two or four directions is introduced, and explains the principle of differential RSSI technology to determine the vehicle’s location using these signals. Additionally, the technology used to determine the vehicle’s speed is described. A testbed was constructed to verify the performance of the developed multidirectional BLE beacon-based radio navigation system. The current status and future plans of the testbed installation are introduced, and the results of position and speed experiments using the testbed for constant speed and deceleration driving are presented. Localization of mobile robots is crucial for deploying robots in real-world applications such as search and rescue missions. This work aims to develop an accurate localization system applicable to swarm robots equipped only with low-cost monocular vision sensors and visual markers. The system is designed to operate in fully open spaces, without landmarks or support from positioning infrastructures. To achieve this, we propose a localization method based on equilateral triangular formations. By leveraging the geometric properties of equilateral triangles, the accurate two-dimensional position of each participating robot is estimated using one-dimensional lateral distance information between robots, which can be reliably and accurately obtained with a low-cost monocular vision sensor. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate that, as travel time increases, the positioning error of the proposed method becomes significantly smaller than that of a conventional dead-reckoning system, another low-cost localization approach applicable to open environments. The Inula japonica flower is traditionally used to alleviate lung inflammatory symptoms. While the therapeutic effect of the I. japonica flower on lung diseases has been suggested, the efficacy of the I. japonica flower in treating atopic dermatitis (AD) remains unknown. We investigated the effects of a water extract of the I. japonica flower (WEIF) on Dermatophagoides farinae extract (DfE)-induced AD-like inflammation in NC/Nga mice. Histological analysis of the epidermal structure, mast cell infiltration, and barrier protein expression were examined. Serum inflammatory mediator levels were assessed. To elucidate the regulatory pathway of WEIF, the effects of 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (DCQA) and 1-O-acetylbritannilactone (ABL) in WEIF on the JAK/STAT pathway were evaluated in interferon-γ/tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-stimulated human adult epidermal keratinocytes. WEIF ameliorated DfE-induced skin inflammation by reducing dermatitis scores, mast cell infiltration, skin structural damage, and serum inflammatory mediator levels. Additionally, DCQA and ABL significantly inhibited JAK/STAT activation in interferon-γ/TNF-α-treated keratinocytes. Furthermore, ligand-binding analysis revealed high binding affinities of DCQA and ABL for JAK. These results suggest the pharmacological potential of WEIF to alleviate DfE-induced skin inflammation by inhibiting the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. In conclusion, these findings support the development of WEIF as a therapeutic treatment for AD-like skin inflammatory diseases. Full article

Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) is a molecular chaperone that plays a pivotal role in the stabilization and functional activation of numerous oncoproteins and signaling molecules essential for cancer cell survival and proliferation. Despite the extensive development and clinical evaluation of HSP90 inhibitors, their therapeutic potential as monotherapies has been limited by suboptimal efficacy, dose-limiting toxicity, and the emergence of drug resistance. Recent studies have demonstrated that combination therapies involving HSP90 inhibitors and other anticancer agents such as chemotherapeutics, targeted therapies, and immune checkpoint inhibitors can enhance anticancer activity, overcome resistance mechanisms, and modulate the tumor microenvironment. These synergistic effects are mediated by the concurrent degradation of client proteins, the disruption of signaling pathways, and the enhancement of antitumor immunity. However, the successful clinical implementation of such combination strategies requires the careful optimization of dosage, administration schedules, toxicity management, and patient selection based on predictive biomarkers. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanistic rationale, preclinical and clinical evidence, and therapeutic challenges associated with HSP90 inhibitor-based combination therapies. We also discuss future directions leveraging emerging technologies including multi-omics profiling, artificial intelligence, and nanoparticle-mediated delivery for the development of personalized and effective combination regimens in oncology. In this study, a UVC photodetector (PD) was fabricated by incorporating CsI into a conventional double-cation perovskite (FAMAPbI3) to enhance its stability. The device utilized a methylammonium iodide post-treatment solution to fabricate CsFAMAPbI3 perovskite thin films, which functioned as the primary light-absorbing layer in an NIP structure composed of n-type SnO2 and p-type spiro-OMeTAD. Perovskite films were fabricated and analyzed as a function of the Cs concentration to optimize the Cs content. The results demonstrated that Cs doping improved the crystallinity and phase stability of the films, leading to their enhanced electron mobility and photodetection performance. The UVC PD with an optimum Cs concentration exhibited a responsivity of 58.2 mA/W and a detectivity of 3.52 × 1014 Jones, representing an approximately 7% improvement over conventional structures. Background: High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is known for its cardiovascular and neuroprotective effects, but its association with cognitive function remains unclear, particularly in relation to genetic factors such as apolipoprotein E ε4 (APOE4). We aimed to investigate the association between serum HDL-C levels and cognition and to examine the moderating effect of APOE4 on this relationship. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 196 dementia-free older adults (aged 65–90) recruited from a memory clinic and the community. Cognitive function was assessed across multiple domains using the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Disease (CERAD) battery. Serum HDL-C levels were measured, and APOE4 genotyping was performed. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted, adjusting for age, sex, APOE4 status, education, diagnosis, vascular risk, nutritional status, physical activity, and blood biomarkers. Results: Higher HDL-C levels were significantly associated with better episodic memory (B = 0.109, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.029–0.189, p = 0.008) and global cognition (B = 0.130, 95% CI: 0.001–0.261, p = 0.049). These associations were significantly moderated by APOE4 status. In APOE4-positive individuals, HDL-C was strongly associated with both episodic memory (B = 0.357, 95% CI: 0.138–0.575, p = 0.003) and global cognition (B = 0.519, 95% CI: 0.220–0.818, p = 0.002), but no such associations were observed in APOE4-negative participants. Conclusions: This study indicates a significant association between serum HDL-C levels and cognitive function, particularly in episodic memory and global cognition, with APOE4 status potentially moderating this relationship. While these findings may suggest a protective role of HDL-C in individuals at increased genetic risk due to APOE4, they should be interpreted with caution given the cross-sectional design. Future longitudinal and mechanistic studies are warranted to clarify causality and potential clinical implications. Full article

Background/Objectives: Lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) has reduced lung cancer mortality in high-risk smokers. However, the evidence on LDCT screening in the elderly is limited, with there being few older participants in major trials and ongoing debate about the benefits, risks, and appropriate age limits of LDCT. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of pulmonary nodules and lung cancer detection rates in men aged 70 and above who underwent a single round of LDCT screening. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from elderly male participants aged 70 years or older who underwent a single low-dose CT lung cancer screening at the Veterans Health Service Medical Center between 2010 and 2023. The participants included those who requested screening or were asymptomatic but recommended by physicians. Individuals with prior lung cancer, symptoms suggestive of lung cancer, or suspicious findings on previous imaging were excluded. The nodule prevalence, lung cancer diagnoses, pathological subtypes, and clinical stages were reviewed. Results: A total of 1409 individuals with a mean age of 74.2 years were included. The median follow-up duration was 3.6 years. Among the included individuals, 1304 (92.6%) had a history of smoking. Positive nodules were detected in 179 patients (12.7%, 95% CI: 11.0–14.5%), and lung cancer was diagnosed in 31 patients (2.2%, 95% CI: 1.5–3.1%). Of the diagnosed cases, 14 (45.2%) were adenocarcinomas and 12 (38.7%) were squamous cell carcinomas. Nineteen patients (51.3%) were diagnosed with stage I or II cancer, while seven (22.6%) were diagnosed at stage IV. Conclusions: A single round of LDCT screening in elderly men resulted in a relatively high lung cancer detection rate, with over half of the diagnosed cases being identified at an early stage. The reconstruction of a severely resorbed alveolar bone is a significant challenge in dental implantology and maxillofacial surgery. Traditional bone grafting materials, including autogenous, allogeneic, xenogeneic, and alloplastic materials, have limitations such as donor site morbidity, limited availability, and prolonged maturation periods. To address these challenges, recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) has emerged as a potent osteoinductive factor that facilitates bone regeneration without the need for additional donor site surgery. This study introduces a box technique which combines rhBMP-2 (CowellBMP®, Cowellmedi, Busan, Republic of Korea) with a 3D-preformed titanium mesh (3D-PFTM), utilizing a mixture of allografts and xenografts for horizontal and vertical alveolar ridge augmentation. The technique leverages the structural stability provided by the OssBuilder® (Osstem, Seoul, Republic of Korea), a preformed titanium mesh, that allows for simultaneous implant placement and vertical ridge augmentation. This technique not only reduces the treatment time compared to traditional methods but also minimizes post-operative discomfort by eliminating the need for autogenous bone harvesting. Clinical outcomes from this technique demonstrate successful bone regeneration within a shorter period than previously reported techniques, with excellent bone quality and implant stability being observed just four months after vertical augmentation. In conclusion, the so called BOXAM (BMP-2, Oss-builder, Xenograft, Allograft, Maintenance) technique presents a promising therapeutic strategy for alveolar bone reconstruction, particularly in cases of severe bone resorption. Further studies are needed to evaluate the long-term outcomes and potential limitations of this approach, especially in scenarios where the inferior alveolar nerve proximity poses challenges for fixture placement. The emergence of plastics as an essential item in modern society has led to the problem of accumulating plastic waste. Accordingly, research is being conducted around the world to reduce the production of new plastics and develop technologies to recycle waste plastics. Among the existing waste plastic recycling technologies, oil production is possible through pyrolysis, but the pyrolysis oil produced in this way has a wide carbon range (more than C5–C25), and a very high olefin content (the presence of aromatic compounds), and the resulting high calorific value of pyrolysis oil is limited in its application range. In the case of oil obtained by pyrolyzing waste plastic containing Cl, there is a concern about corrosion in the reactor. Accordingly, it is possible to diversify the range of use of pyrolysis oil produced by suppressing corrosion through Cl removal as well as oil upgrading through cracking. Therefore, this study used red mud mixed with a series of adsorbents for Cl removal and pyrolysis oil upgrade. The adsorbent was physically mixed with a binder (kaolin or methylcellulose) and activated carbon, and the results before and after the reaction were confirmed through basic characteristic analysis. Multifunctional Sensor for Strain, Pressure, and UV Light Detections Using Polyaniline and ZnO Nanostructures on a Flexible Substrate

Wearable sensors have rapidly advanced, enabling applications such as human activity monitoring, electronic skin, and biomimetic robotics. To meet the growing demands of these applications, multifunctional sensing has become essential for wearable devices. However, most existing studies predominantly focus on enhancing single-function sensing capabilities. This study introduces a multifunctional sensor that combines high stretchability for strain and pressure detection with ultraviolet (UV) sensing capability. To achieve simultaneous detection of strain, pressure, and UV light, a multi-sensing approach was employed: a capacitive method for strain and pressure detections and a resistive method utilizing a pn-heterojunction diode for UV detection. In the capacitive method, polyaniline (PANI) served as parallel-plate electrodes, while silicon-based elastomer acted as the dielectric layer. This configuration enabled up to 100% elongation and enhanced operational stability through encapsulation. The sensor demonstrated a strong linear relationship between capacitance value changes reasonably based on the area of PANI, and showed a good linearity with an R-squared value of 0.9918. It also detected pressure across a wide range, from low (0.4 kPa) to high (9.4 kPa). Furthermore, for wearable applications, the sensor reliably captured capacitance variations during finger bending at different angles. For UV detection, a pn-heterojunction diode composed of p-type silicon and n-type zinc oxide nanorods exhibited a rapid response time of 6.1 s and an on/off ratio of 13.8 at −10 V. Durability under 100% tensile strain was confirmed through Von Mises stress calculations using finite element modeling. Overall, this multifunctional sensor offers significant potential for a variety of applications, including human motion detection, wearable technology, and robotics. Full article

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) integrates spectroscopy and imaging, providing detailed spectral–spatial information, and the selection of task-relevant wavelengths can streamline data acquisition and processing for field deployment. Anomaly detection aims to identify observations that deviate from normal patterns, typically in a one-class classification framework. In this study, we extend this framework to a binary classification by employing a U-Net based deterministic autoencoder augmented with attention blocks to analyze HSI data of sesame plants inoculated with Pseudomonas syringae pv. sesami. Single-band grayscale images across the full spectral range were used to train the model on healthy samples, while the presence of disease was classified by assessing the reconstruction error, which we refer to as the anomaly score. The average classification accuracy in the visible region spectrum (430–689 nm) exceeded 0.8, with peaks at 641 nm and 689 nm. In comparison, the near-infrared region (>700 nm) attained an accuracy of approximately 0.6. Several visible bands demonstrated potential for early disease detection. Some lesion samples showed a gradual increase in anomaly scores over time, and notably, Band 23 (689 nm) exhibited exceeded anomaly scores even at early stages before visible symptoms appeared. This supports the potential of this wavelength for the early-stage detection of bacterial leaf spots in sesame. Full article
