Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Vaccine-preventable diseases remain a major global health challenge. Despite significant immunization progress, hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), influenza, varicella, measles, and HPV-related infections continue to cause substantial morbidity and mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and among vulnerable populations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly reshaped the epidemiological landscape of vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases. Disruptions to routine immunization and shifts in population immunity have led to unexpected resurgences and atypical seasonal patterns. For example, influenza has shown altered seasonality, and measles has rebounded significantly in several regions. In contrast, varicella did not experience a marked post-pandemic resurgence, likely due to sustained two-dose vaccination coverage. Meanwhile, HPV coverage remains suboptimal, and HFMD continues to cause large outbreaks in the Asia-Pacific region.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue dedicated to advancing the science and practice of vaccine-preventable infectious disease control.

This Special Issue aims to collect original research and reviews focusing on the epidemiology, prevention, and control of key vaccine-preventable diseases, with emphasis on influenza, varicella, measles, HFMD, and HPV-related diseases. Research areas may include (but need not be limited to) the following:

Post-pandemic epidemiology and atypical seasonality;

Vaccine effectiveness, breakthrough infections, and duration of protection;

Immunization strategies and policy evaluation;

Vaccine hesitancy, acceptance, and communication;

Modeling and outbreak forecasting.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
