Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Natural toxins pose significant threats to public health through food contamination, environmental exposure, accidental consumption and intentional misuse. As these compounds become increasingly sophisticated in their mechanisms of action and occurrence patterns, the analytical community must respond with equally advanced detection methodologies.
This Special Issue seeks groundbreaking contributions that advance the field of natural toxin analysis through innovative approaches and real-world applications. We welcome submissions featuring novel analytical methodologies—including cutting-edge LC-MS techniques, innovative ELISA-based or biosensor platforms, and emerging DNA-based detection systems—that demonstrate robust validation protocols. These contributions should demonstrate how novel methodologies enabled successful toxin detection or characterization in challenging real-world scenarios.
We encourage submissions that push the boundaries of sensitivity, specificity, and speed in natural toxin detection, whether through innovative sample preparation techniques, novel biorecognition elements, or advanced instrumentation approaches. Manuscripts should emphasize methodological innovation rather than routine application of established techniques to new sample matrices. This Special Issue aims to establish new benchmarks in natural toxin analysis while addressing the evolving challenges faced by analytical laboratories worldwide in protecting public health and safety.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Toxins is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
