Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The development of low-carbon and sustainable energy systems requires efficient technologies for energy storage, conversion, recovery and utilization. Thermal energy storage and efficient heat utilization are key approaches for improving the flexibility of renewable energy systems, reducing energy waste and enhancing the overall efficiency of industrial processes, buildings and power systems.

Sustainable thermal energy storage covers sensible heat storage, latent heat storage, thermochemical heat storage, sorption-based storage and hybrid storage technologies. These technologies can be widely applied in solar thermal systems, industrial waste heat recovery, building heating and cooling, heat pumps, thermal management and integrated energy systems. Meanwhile, efficient heat utilization, including heat recovery, heat upgrading, cascade utilization and process integration, is essential for reducing primary energy consumption and carbon emissions.

This Special Issue on “Sustainable Thermal Energy Storage and Efficient Heat Utilization” seeks high-quality original research articles, reviews and short communications focusing on recent advances in thermal energy storage materials, heat transfer enhancement, system integration, modeling, optimization and practical applications.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Sensible, latent, thermochemical and sorption-based thermal energy storage;

* Phase change materials and composite thermal storage materials;

* Solar thermal storage and renewable-energy-driven heating/cooling systems;

* Industrial waste heat recovery, storage and cascade utilization;

* Heat pumps, absorption systems and heat upgrading technologies;

* Advanced heat exchangers and heat/mass transfer enhancement;

* Building thermal energy storage and thermal regulation;

* Thermal management for electronics, batteries and energy equipment;

* Modeling, simulation, control and optimization of thermal storage systems;

* Energy, exergy, economic, environmental and life-cycle assessment;

* Demonstration and practical applications of heat storage and utilization technologies.

We warmly invite researchers to contribute their latest findings and perspectives to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
