Dear Colleagues,
Plant–microbe interactions play a critical role in enhancing crop resilience, sustaining soil ecosystem health, and safeguarding food security in the face of climate change. Rising temperatures, altered rainfall patterns, soil degradation, and the growing frequency of extreme weather events are already affecting plant physiology, soil microbial diversity, and the fragile balance between beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms. Gaining a deeper understanding of how these interactions will evolve is essential for advancing the knowledge of plant growth, stress tolerance, disease resistance, and soil health in the context of climate change.
Contributors to this Special Issue are invited to present cutting-edge research on the influence of plant–microbe interactions in enhancing crop resilience and soil health under changing climate conditions, with particular emphasis on molecular and physiological aspects. Particular attention should be given to innovative and sustainable practices that harness plant–microbe interactions, including the development and application of biofertilizers, the use of soil amendments, and the design of cropping systems aimed at enhancing nutrient availability, stimulating plant growth, and improving plant tolerance to environmental stresses. Additionally, we strongly encourage the submission of papers focused on advances in microbiome engineering and climate-smart agricultural practices, illustrating how microbial communities can be managed to support crop adaptation, restore soil health, and strengthen ecosystem resilience in the face of global climate change.
