Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Disordered eating behaviours, including subclinical patterns (e.g., emotional eating, chronic dieting, and grazing) and full-threshold eating disorders (e.g., anorexia nervosa or binge eating disorder), occur across the entire lifespan, from childhood through late adulthood, and are associated with serious psychological, physical, and social consequences, such as depression, metabolic complications, and reduced quality of life.

Since the inclusion of new diagnostic categories in DSM-5—such as avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and binge eating disorder (BED)—researchers have increasingly acknowledged the developmental diversity and complexity of disordered eating behaviours. However, existing knowledge still tends to focus on adolescence and young adulthood, leaving critical gaps in understanding how disordered eating manifests and evolves across different life stages.

This Special Issue, “Advances in Disordered Eating Behaviours Across the Life Spectrum”, aims to bring together empirical and theoretical contributions that explore the assessment, clinical presentation, and treatment of disordered eating behaviours across all age groups. We particularly, but not exclusively, encourage submissions that address underrepresented populations, lifespan transitions (e.g., pregnancy, menopause, ageing, individuals undergoing weight loss treatments, including GLP1-RAs), and innovative prevention and intervention strategies.

We welcome original research, systematic reviews, and conceptual papers that contribute to a more comprehensive and inclusive understanding of disordered eating across the life course.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
