Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nanomaterials have transformed the landscape of biomedical research, enabling breakthroughs in diagnostics, therapeutics, imaging, and regenerative medicine. Advances in material engineering, surface functionalization, and biointerface science have significantly improved the ability of nanosystems to interact with biological environments in precise and controllable ways. As a result, both in vitro and in vivo studies are now providing deeper insights into how nanomaterials can be translated into clinical applications.

This Special Issue will highlight recent progress in the design, characterization, and biological evaluation of nanomaterials for biomedical applications. We will provide a platform that bridges fundamental nanoscience with clinically relevant research, emphasizing studies that demonstrate clear biological performance in cell-based systems and animal models. By bringing together interdisciplinary contributions, this Special Issue will showcase how nanotechnology continues to shape the future of medicine.

We particularly welcome cutting-edge research exploring innovative nanomaterial platforms, smart and stimuli-responsive systems, and technologies that enhance targeting, delivery efficiency, imaging sensitivity, or therapeutic outcomes. Studies that integrate nanomaterials with emerging fields such as immunotherapy, gene delivery, tissue engineering, and precision medicine are especially encouraged. Translational perspectives, including safety, biodistribution, and regulatory considerations, are also of high interest.

We invite submissions of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications related to the in vitro and in vivo applications of nanomaterials in biomedicine. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Nanoparticles for drug, gene, or protein delivery;
  • Nanomaterials for imaging and diagnostics;
  • Theranostic nanoplatforms;
  • Nanotechnology in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering;
  • Bio–nano interactions and nanotoxicology;
  • Targeted and stimuli-responsive nanosystems;
  • Preclinical evaluation and translational studies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
