Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of biosensor technology has significantly transformed the landscape of molecular diagnostics, with DNA and protein biosensors standing at the forefront of this progress. These biosensors play a vital role in detecting genetic material and protein biomarkers with high specificity and sensitivity, enabling timely diagnosis, disease monitoring, and therapeutic decision-making. Recent advances have expanded their applications across diverse fields, including clinical diagnostics, environmental surveillance, food safety, and biodefense.

Driven by the integration of nanotechnology, bioengineering, and advanced signal transduction techniques, DNA and protein biosensors offer improved performance in terms of detection limit, selectivity, response time, and portability. Innovations such as nanomaterial-based interfaces, aptamer engineering, and label-free sensing approaches have opened new possibilities for ultrasensitive and real-time biomolecular analysis. Moreover, the incorporation of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies has enabled user-friendly formats, suitable for point-of-care and resource-limited settings.

This Special Issue presents a collection of original research articles and reviews that explore the latest trends and breakthroughs in DNA and protein biosensor development. It covers cutting-edge sensor platforms, novel recognition elements, and emerging detection strategies that are redefining sensitivity, miniaturization, and integration. By showcasing interdisciplinary contributions from materials science, chemistry, biology, and engineering, this Special Issue aims to provide readers with a comprehensive overview of how recent technological and conceptual innovations are advancing the field and addressing key challenges in biosensing for real-world applications.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
