Dear Colleagues,
The rapidly growing demand for natural products in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries continues to drive intensive research into plant-derived compounds and herbal preparations. Advances in plant biotechnology, coupled with progress in analytical sciences, have created new opportunities for obtaining high-quality plant materials rich in bioactive metabolites, as well as for improving their characterization and utilization. A key challenge in this field remains the development of efficient, reliable, and reproducible methods for the extraction, isolation, and analysis of complex biological matrices. Accurate analytical assessment is essential not only for evaluating the suitability of raw materials but also for ensuring the quality, safety, and consistency of intermediate and final products. Modern analytical workflows, often based on advanced chromatographic and hyphenated techniques, require carefully optimized procedures, as even minor deviations can significantly affect the final outcomes. In parallel, increasing attention is being paid to the biological activities of natural products and the elucidation of their mechanisms of action. The identification of bioactive markers, stability studies, and toxicity assessment are crucial for the safe and effective application of natural compounds. Furthermore, the valorization of agricultural by-products and waste materials as sustainable sources of valuable phytochemicals represents an emerging and highly promising research direction.
This Special Issue, titled “Natural Products: Extraction, Analysis and Biological Activities: 2nd Edition”, aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research and innovative approaches in this dynamic area. We welcome original research articles and reviews addressing, but not limited to, novel extraction strategies, advanced analytical methodologies, bioactivity studies, and the application of statistical and experimental design tools for process optimization.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
