Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Interest in the valorization of grape by-products (pomace, seeds, skins, and stems) is constantly growing, as it focuses on their transformation into valuable biologically active substances and a circular economy is being implemented. These substances contain phenolic acids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and stilbenes, which have a wide spectrum of biological activity, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anticancer properties. Their effective action requires overcoming significant challenges that deserve to be discussed in this issue. The key issues that we will discuss to enrich the topic in ‘Advances in Valorization Strategies for Grape By-Products’ are as follows.
- Extraction methods for obtaining extracts from grape by-products and emphasizing green extraction techniques.
- Methods for purifying the extracts in order to obtain concentrated, stable samples with high antioxidant activity, including the application of various chromatographic methods.
- Study of the storage conditions of the extracts and elucidation of the biodegradation mechanisms of the individual components in them over time.
- Enrichment of grape by-product extracts with procyanidins, tannins and another plant extracts, providing synergistic action.
- Stabilization of purified extracts by applying modern methods such as microencapsulation, nanoencapsulation, nanoemulsions, lyophilization, etc.
- Research into the properties of the obtained extracts—bioavailability, cytotoxicity, in-depth assessment of antioxidant potential and studies to clarify the mechanisms of action of the extracts against various chronic diseases.
- Transition from laboratory-scale extraction to industrial-scale extraction.
- Standardization of methods for extract preparation and characterization to ensure consistent quality.
- Application of extracts in cosmetics, food industry, medicine, for obtaining biodegradable packaging films, for energy production, etc.
The indicated topics of interest for the issue are indicative and can be expanded. Both research and review articles on this topic are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
