Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The increasing use of polymers and polymer composites in the transportation, construction, electronics and defence sectors has created a strong demand for strategies to enable flame retardants to meet strict fire safety regulations. Developing new flame retardant strategies requires greater knowledge of their underlying mechanisms, which also depends upon the complex physical and chemical phenomena occurring during their combustion on exposure to fire. The approach to achieving this can be theoretical as well, with mathematical modelling complementing experimental findings and helping in new system development. This Special Issue aims to gather papers on recent advances in the development and characterization of flame-retardant polymers and their composites. This Issue covers all types of polymers, namely thermoplastics, thermosets, biomaterials, composites, etc., and all aspects of material development, such as synthesis, processing, characterization, thermal stability evaluation, fire testing and mathematical modelling.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
