Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Self-healing polymers are moving from elegant laboratory concepts to enabling materials for longer-lasting coatings, stretchable electronics, soft robotics, energy devices, and biomedical interfaces. By autonomously repairing microcracks, restoring mechanical integrity, and extending service lifetimes, these systems address a central challenge in sustainable materials design—how to combine performance with durability and circularity. Recent progress is being driven by advances in dynamic chemistries and supramolecular interactions, multiscale architectures, and emerging characterization methods that connect molecular dynamics to macroscopic recovery.

This Special Issue, “Advanced Self-Healing Polymers”, highlights breakthroughs spanning intrinsic and extrinsic healing strategies, vitrimer and dynamic covalent networks, reversible noncovalent motifs, and hybrid or composite systems. We welcome original research and review articles that deliver fundamental insight, innovative design principles, and application-oriented demonstrations, with particular emphasis on quantitative healing metrics, repeatability, and structure–property–function relationships.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
