Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The properties and possible applications of high-entropy alloys have been of great interest to researchers in the field of new materials. Their excellent behavior in different chemical environments, at high or very low temperatures, has drawn attention to them for use in important industrial, military, or medical applications.

Regardless of the operating conditions, it is often necessary to create assemblies between the various components of a mechanical system. Non-removable assembly can be achieved using filler materials that participate in the formation of the joint area, or without fillers by melting the edges of the components together, or by using adhesives or bonding materials that are placed on the surfaces to be assembled. Therefore, the joining behavior of different classes of high-entropy alloys deserves to be studied, in parallel with their use as welding fillers or for cladding surfaces that require special properties.

Researchers from around the world are invited to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to facilitate the global exchange of advanced knowledge in welding, cladding, and bonding processes. In addition, it would be very useful to widely publicize the recent progress and insights related to the welding and metallurgical compatibility of new high-entropy alloys to find optimal methods of creating similar and dissimilar joints through the advanced characterization of joining areas.

Experimental studies that are dedicated to this field will have to refer to the joining process parameter optimization, by studying the effects on the geometry of the fused areas, the microstructure, and the properties of the joints, through tests to evaluate the mechanical properties (tensile strength, toughness, hardness, wear behavior, etc.) or chemical behavior (corrosion resistance), based on data analysis and process simulation. At the same time, studying the effects of some thermal or thermo-mechanical treatments on the properties of the joints will be necessary to estimate their behavior under different working conditions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
