Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metabolite–host interactions play crucial roles in regulating physiological processes, disease development, and responses to environmental changes. Recent advances in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and integrative multi-omics technologies have transformed our ability to decode these complex biochemical networks at unprecedented resolution.
For this Special Issue, we invite the contribution of original research articles, reviews, and technical notes that explore how untargeted and targeted metabolomics, in combination with transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics, and microbiomics, can be used to unravel the dynamic interplay between metabolites and their biological context. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the discovery of bioactive metabolites, metabolic pathway elucidation, biomarkers of health and disease, environmental metabolomics, and the integration of computational and systems biology approaches.
By highlighting innovative analytical strategies, data integration pipelines, and case studies across diverse biological systems, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive view of how metabolomics contributes to understanding metabolite–host crosstalk, with implications for human, animal, and environmental health.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
