New Insights in Sports Injury Prevention
This special issue belongs to the section “Sports Medicine and Sports Traumatology“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sports injury prevention is a key focus of sports medicine and clinical practice. Despite the widespread implementation of evidence-based prevention programs, the incidence of sports-related injuries remains high across many sporting populations. This Special Issue of Medicina, entitled“New Insights in Sports Injury Prevention, aims to present current advances and clinically meaningful research that enhance the understanding and prevention of sports injuries.
Conventional injury prevention research has predominantly relied on static screening approaches and isolated risk factor analysis, which may not adequately reflect the dynamic and multifactorial nature of injury risk in sport. Injury susceptibility is influenced by the continuous interaction between workload, neuromuscular and neurocognitive function, recovery status, and contextual demands. Therefore, there is a growing need for longitudinal, multidimensional, and clinically applicable approaches that support injury risk assessment and prevention in real-world settings.
This Special Issue welcomes high-quality original research articles and review papers focusing on dynamic injury risk assessment, workload and fatigue monitoring, neuromuscular and biomechanical factors associated with injury risk, and the development and validation of reliable clinical and field-based assessment tools. Particular emphasis is placed on studies with clear clinical relevance and practical implications for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport decision-making.
By bringing together researchers and clinicians, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current knowledge and emerging approaches in sports injury prevention, supporting evidence-informed practice in sports medicine and related clinical disciplines.
