Dear Colleagues,
Nanomaterials are playing an increasingly important role in our lives, with applications in diverse fields such as biomedicine, food safety, energy systems and storage, semiconductor fabrication, environmental science, sensor systems, surface engineering, photonics, and quantum technologies. Their reduced physical dimensions, high surface area, and chemical and biological properties can result in unique characteristics that differ substantially from bulk materials. Non-thermal plasma techniques, both at atmospheric and low pressures, can enable unique and exotic chemistries that facilitate the solid-, liquid-, and gas-phase synthesis, fabrication, and processing of nanomaterials. Importantly, relative to other techniques, plasma can have sustainability and toxicity advantages. In addition to engineering nanomaterials, plasma and nanomaterials can act synergistically to contribute to the kinetics of biomaterials in, for example, complex biological systems. Critical to the success and efficiency of these plasma-based processes is precision in the chemistry and energy distributions of plasma-generated species. Consequently, fundamental understanding of plasma chemistries, process conditions, synergistic processes, and process control methodologies is crucial for long-term success in real-world deployment. This Special Issue will explore the nature of the overlaps between nanomaterials and non-thermal plasmas for critical applications; it aims to deepen our understanding of the fundamental chemical and physical processes that determine process outcomes. Contributions that explore plasma measurement and characterization, interactions between nanomaterials, plasma, and biological systems, in situ process monitoring and measurement, plasma reactor design, process modelling and simulation, and process control techniques are welcome. We also welcome contributions that demonstrate applications in important and emerging application fields.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
