Dear Colleagues,

Low-dimensional transition metal oxides and selenides have garnered significant attention in the scientific community owing to their unique physical and chemical characteristics. These materials demonstrate novel electronic, optical, magnetic, and thermal properties, paving the way for unparalleled opportunities in diverse technological applications, ranging from high-speed electronic devices to efficient energy storage and conversion techniques, as well as advanced optoelectronic detection and sensing technologies.

This research topic is aimed at publishing the latest advancements and breakthroughs in the field of low-dimensional transition metal oxides and selenides, including explorations of the synthesis methodologies, novel processing strategies, key performances and fundamental mechanisms, and multifaceted applications.

The development of functional textiles has become a key focus in recent years, aiming to meet the diverse requirements of modern society. MXene has excellent conductivity, hydrophilicity, and UV resistance, and is widely used in electromagnetic shielding, sensors, energy storage, and photothermal conversion. Tussah silk (TS) is a unique natural textile raw material and has a unique jewelry luster, natural luxury, and a smooth and comfortable feel. However, there are relatively few studies on the functional finishing of TS fabric with Ti3C2Tx MXene. Here, we developed a multifunctional MXene/tussah silk (MXene/TS) fabric by the deposition of Ti3C2Tx MXene sheets on the surface of TS fabric through a simple padding–drying–curing process. The obtained MXene/TS fabric (five cycles) exhibited excellent conductivity (4.8 S/m), air permeability (313.6 mm/s), ultraviolet resistance (ultraviolet protection factor, UPF = 186.3), photothermal conversion (temperature increase of 11 °C), and strain sensing. Thanks to these superior properties, the MXene/TS fabric has broad application prospects in motion monitoring, smart clothing, flexible wearables, and artificial intelligence. Full article

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), particularly monolayer TMDs with direct bandgap properties, are key to advancing optoelectronic device technology. WSe2 stands out due to its adjustable carrier transport, making it a prime candidate for optoelectronic applications. This study explores monolayer WSe2 synthesis via H2-assisted CVD, focusing on how carrier gas flow rate affects WSe2 quality. A comprehensive characterization of monolayer WSe2 was conducted using OM (optical microscope), Raman spectroscopy, PL spectroscopy, AFM, SEM, XPS, HRTEM, and XRD. It was found that H2 incorporation and flow rate critically influence WSe2’s growth and structural integrity, with low flow rates favoring precursor concentration for product formation and high rates causing disintegration of existing structures. This research accentuates the significance of fine-tuning the carrier gas flow rate for optimizing monolayer WSe2 synthesis, offering insights for fabricating monolayer TMDs like WS2, MoSe2, and MoS2, and facilitating their broader integration into optoelectronic devices. As a stable, low-cost, environment-friendly, and gas-sensitive material, semiconductor metal oxides have been widely used for gas sensing. In the past few years, single-atom catalysts (SACs) have gained increasing attention in the field of gas sensing with the advantages of maximized atomic utilization and unique electronic and chemical properties and have successfully been applied to enhance the detection sensitivity and selectivity of metal oxide gas sensors. However, the application of SACs in gas sensors is still in its infancy. Herein, we critically review the recent advances and current status of single-atom catalysts in metal oxide gas sensors, providing some suggestions for the development of this field. The synthesis methods and characterization techniques of SAC-modified metal oxides are summarized. The interactions between SACs and metal oxides are crucial for the stable loading of single-atom catalysts and for improving gas-sensitive performance. Then, the current application progress of various SACs (Au, Pt, Cu, Ni, etc.) in metal oxide gas sensors is introduced. Finally, the challenges and perspectives of SACs in metal oxide gas sensors are presented. Full article
